I don't think sexism has anything to do with how Harry treated Deb.
The thing is: Dex needed more help (because of watching his mom die by chainsaw in front of him as a child), AND Harry rightfully felt guilty about it, because it was his fault. So... it's a "squeaky wheel gets the grease" thing with Dex. Dex *needed* so much attention. It's not fair to Deb, of course, but life isn't fair.
My big point would be that Harry did a bad job in not at least explaining to Deb that Dex was getting more attention because he needed it, that it had nothing to do with Deb. Obviously Harry didn't find the right balance, but to me that's largely... I don't know, "understandable"? But... well, it's a tv show, you couldn't have Dex knowing about his mom, about his past, prior to season 1 because that reveal is such a big moment... but maybe you could have your cake and eat it too? Because I was gonna say that maybe Harry couldn't have explained to Deb why Dex needed so much attention without explaining to her *why*, and he probably couldn't just say "Dex is fucked up", he'd've had to explain what happened with Dex's mom... but maybe he could've told Deb that and also told Deb that Dex didn't remember it, but it still had a profound impact on Dex, and Harry could've explained to Deb what happened with Dex, and also sworn Deb to secrecy, had her promise not to tell Dex because Dex needed to remember, or not remember, on his own?
Which would then work as a nice reveal in a future season... since Dex found out, finally, at the end of season 1, but kept it from Deb, you could've had Deb realize he must've had memories flooding back (due to the motel "massacre") and then at some point in season 2 they could've talked about it, right?
Deb explains that Harry made her promise to keep it a secret, Dex explains that he didn't want Deb to know about it because he didn't want her to worry... maybe even that Brian was his brother, which we know would make Dex nervous because he is like Brian, but he could play that off as "we saw what Brian became, and I went through the same thing, I didn't want you to think I could be like Brian" and have that be a moment that brings them together (again? further?). And also, maybe that gives Deb some closure with regards to why Brian picked on her, too, right? Because it wasn't about her, it was about getting closer to Dex... and while her relationship with Lundy seems to be pretty healthy and helps her get past it, I think her relationship with Lundy PLUS learning that Brian was Dex's brother would've helped more. PLUS then you bring Deb in a bit, because now it's a secret (that Brian, the Ice Truck Killer, was Dex's brother) that THEY both keep, not just Dex.
Plus, that clears up some things in season 2... why did Doakes ask Deb about Dex being an addict? Trying to navigate this without spoilers... the addict plotline, from Deb's POV, makes no sense. If you have her learn about the Brian/Dex relationship, then she would understand why Dex isn't willing to share with people, and why he's kind of railroaded into things that otherwise would make no sense to Deb. And of course, you could have Deb tell him he should just be honest, that it's not as big of a deal as he's making it out to be, that certainly at least Rita wouldn't hold it against him, wouldn't look at him differently, but that she understands and will allow him to handle it how he wants, even though she disagrees. And that would be a natural, organic source of tension.
Anyway... that was a lot more than I intended, but... oh well. Just my thoughts on that.

I said in the comment section for part 1 that Dexter season 1-5 is among the best in television history. WELL... here's one (*big*) nitpick: I truly HATE that they refer back to a time when Dexter was sloppy like that. Dexer should NEVER be sloppy to get a killer off so that he can get him himself. NEVER. That's *unforgivably* sloppy.
I don't know that I'd say he should never be sloppy or make mistakes at all, but they should NEVER happen off-camera like that. IF they happen, it should only be on-camera, during a season, in a time when he's dealing with enough shit that you understand the mistake. For the writers to have him intentionally write-up a blood report that's wrong? To leave a papertrail? Fucking terrible.
I get that they did it to ramp up tension, but that's a bad way to ramp up tension; if you can't do tension organically, in a way that feels *earned*, then you don't get to have your tension.

For me it's easily season 5. But I really like 2 as well, and I continue to be so impressed that they were ballsy enough to put the microscope on Dexter - the Bay Harbor Butcher - like this in season 2. A lesser show would've waited and waited and waited, in fear that having Dexter's work be discovered would ruin the show. (Would give the show nowhere to go afterwards.)
And Lundy is a great character. I'm not entirely behind his relationship with Deb in theory, but you can see how it helped her long-term. And season 2's first few episodes, dealing with the fallout from season 1 - both Dex and Deb, really - was very well handled. (And again, not to get into specifics, season 5 did a similar thing with season 4's fallout in an equally elegant way.)

Id say what Harry did is still better than going to traditional therapy. He killed animals and has always killed animals. Remember in season 1? At best for society he would be kept in a mental ward or jail. PERSONALLY of course dexter wouldnt like that and would have ended up as brain his brother. Thats the point of his character in the first season.. To demonstrate how much their trauma changed them forever. Thats the story. Even Dexter himself states he wouldve commited a senseless crime in his youth without the code. Even more so if he was real. their is a lot of crazy people and we cannot control that, at least with dexter there is someone that doesnt hurt innocent kids or women is better than a common crook

Masuka is definitely too gross, too often... I see what the writers are trying to do, it's for comedic relief and because it's fiction, navigating sexual harassment is easier (you just don't write characters being offended by it; even Lundy, who doesn't like it, isn't offended, it's just not his style)... but yeah, they could definitely do a better job making him a more real character, giving him more dimensions, could dial it back a bit and be less gross about it without losing humor.
... BUT this episode, when Lila shows up at the bowling alley? Two great moments from Masuka: "I'm not little everywhere; some places I'm perfectly average." When he starts, when he says "I'm not little everywhere" I'm like, dude, really Masuka? Gross, inappropriate, way TMI... but finishing with "average" gets me. And even more, when Angel says that FLA will give anybody a gun, referring to Masuka, and Masuka agrees? "I know; scary, right?" That's legit funny. Good job, Masuka.
