Hi. When the end of the video happens and we get to see the film set, youtube overlays the "next videos to choose from" over the top so we really don't get to see them.
I remember walking around my house with a ruler and copying my house into MS paint, 1 pixel per inch and printing them out and making mini papercrafts like this. Miss the days where I had zero responsibilities
1:220 is "Z" scale in model railroading. The smallest commercial scale for model trains. I use Kayte's method of dispensing glue, but I used an upturned shot glass for precision application of yellow glue or super thin ACC. The glass is easy to clean after the glue dries. Those micro brushes have many uses applying glues, plastic solvent and lubes. Paper models can be a lot nicer than you might think
There's also T-Gauge at 1:450; although it's not nearly as well established as the larger scales. The growing community around it looks to be using paper models and 3d-printing in addition to traditional methods
Sankei also does recreations of some of the architecture of buildings from Studio Ghibli movies and many other Studio Ghibli related kits! I've already made three of them and I love all of them. I still have two in the WIP stage though, so this has got me a bit more excited to go back and resume them!
HLJ is probably the easiest and cheapest way. I've used them for so many different kits, ranging from gundam to papercraft to make your own candy sushi. But that's not all they have, it's a great place, just keep in mind shipping is a bit and it will be for a reason, but it's a great company.
The glue is made by Lineco especially for book binders. It's thicker than PVA glue like Elmer's Glue All because it has less water. This makes it ideal for paper as it won't cause the paper to wrinkle as it dries. A little goes a long way. Apply it sparingly and use pressure for a strong bond.
This is Z gauge :) N is 1:160 or 1:148 mainly used in the UK, something about their trains being to small in 1:160 couldn't get the motors to fit back in the day, so they made it 1:148, but kept the 9mm track width.
All hail the mighty, yet humble, paper material in all its forms! I love building papercraft models... Depending on the model, and how you finish it (especially if you paint it); it's fun to play the game "guess what this model is made from"....
Papercraft is a wild rabbit hole to down, I used to download and print skyscrapers from a tall buildings fan site, I have a whole miniture Philadelphia and Chicago......When I was into N scale trains I built a whole wild west mining town to go with some 1800s steam trains I found.
the Japanese have some of the best paper models around, I've built two now. Like you, I was impressed with the quality of the card stock. And, yes, it's very satisfying once you are done. You can't help but to stand back and look at your handy work. very nice models you guys made! thanks for sharing!
Yes, we need more youtube channels showing people doing card modling! I'd love to have more information on where we can find more kits, either like this, or like the old cut & assemble books from when I was much younger.
I've made a few of these before. They are super high quality and pretty easy to assemble. The downside is that they are pretty pricey and even small ones will set you back about 20-30$ a model.
My guess is that both Z and N scale reason for being so popular in Japan, is the space requirements makes it a lot easier to have some trains running, these buildings though are really nice sets, its crazy how much better the quality for boths scale have gone up the last couple of years
Can yall do a video on lighting workspace? If love papercraft but I found my home office lighting (mostly very dim and up high for 9-10 hours daily on the computer) insufficient.
Don´t get me wrong... but I love to see, that also GIRLS are into this hobby!!! :) And by the way... this girl has a really BEAUTIFUL hair!!! (And a cute smile!) :)
Do they make a version slightly bigger than that? I will need a surgical magnifier just to look at the details! I remember you have a laser cutter, can you make one from scratch?
QUESTION: I noticed Norm working on one section at a time and then cutting out the next section(s), do you recommend not cutting all your pieces out at once? Or do the directions make this clear?
I was interested in trying these out but they are ridiculously expensive for something made out of paper. I build Metal Earth type kits all the time and these are cheaper and made of metal. I can't see why these papercraft kits cost so much. Yes they are imports, but most everything we get in the USA is imports, especially electronics and these are not marked up so high.
I have 2 amazing paper model books of the entire Unseen University from Terry Prachett's Discworld. One completely built with an 18" tower and one mint condition uncut book.
oh MAN , these are just gorgeous... but WAY too fiddly for my fat fingers lol... i'd want to start with something much bigger, like 1/110, or 1/55 even...
Waited the entire video to see the final product only to be treated to quarter page ads for other Tested videos and tee-shirts covering up the final shots. You call yourselves professional RUclipsrs?
it is a little funny how she knew enough to know the writing is sometimes done 'not left to right' like in English, but still think it worth pointing out that the instructions aren't bottom to top... BUT there are more befeting things to be rude towards, and a video like this isn't one of them.

1/220 is a standard model railroad scale. (Z Scale)
Hi. When the end of the video happens and we get to see the film set, youtube overlays the "next videos to choose from" over the top so we really don't get to see them.
That thumbnail is amazing
Gunther took that!
I dropped into the comments to say the same thing. Crisp!
Reminiscent of taking people with pincers in Roller Coaster Tycoon.
I remember walking around my house with a ruler and copying my house into MS paint, 1 pixel per inch and printing them out and making mini papercrafts like this. Miss the days where I had zero responsibilities
I LOVE THIS
Don't give those days up. Instead, follow them to tour greatest life. Responsibilities will be taken care of, have faith!
🥺
That sounds awesome! I used to do paper or cloth bento boxes. I wish I thought to do rooms or houses.

Nice tips - thanks!
Yes just built over 65 buildings in T Guage, down loaded and printed free cardstock models.
Love every video with Kayte. Watch them with my daughter who really loves crafting and making!
Sankei also does recreations of some of the architecture of buildings from Studio Ghibli movies and many other Studio Ghibli related kits! I've already made three of them and I love all of them. I still have two in the WIP stage though, so this has got me a bit more excited to go back and resume them!
Any recommendations on where to buy?
Amazon has them, as well as HobbyLinkJapan

Thanks for the recommendation! Ghibli FTW 😄
@@travis650 Ordered once from them YEARS ago when the dollar was strong. Come to think of it I still have some of the unbuilt kits somewhere . . .
Would love to see a video on how Kayte stores/organizes her paper crafting tools and supplies
Good idea!

I love putting together Sankei paper models!
My father is into tiny N Gauge model railways. I built some card buildings for him for that last year. Very fiddly but they look great.

That PVA adhesive is the exact same type and brand used for book restoration and binding. Awesome stuff.
i see a miniature and i click
Making models out of paper and glue is very satisfying! Watching you do it is pretty fun too!

I was given my Laputa Sankei kit by my Japanese model maker friend after our visit to the studio Ghibli museum!

It’s 5:30am and this is just about the perfect content for right now
🙌
beautifully detailed kits i love the different textures that really makes them pop
These kits are so cute! Nice to watch you two constructing them!
Really nailed that PBS vibe on this one 🙂. Kinda brightened my day ❤️
That’s what we were going for!
@@tested The music selection took an already-solid video to a great place. Excellent production, all around. And those finished models are adorable.
This youtube channel always results in me spending more money.
Ha, those look so good. Thanks Norm & Kate!
These are super cool! Thanks for letting us know about these kits!
The things you can do with paper is insane
Those tiny glue applicators are being used in dentistry extensively for filling/bonding agent application to crown cementation.
Very nice chilled video, thank you! Loved it.
These kits look like so much fun! Might have to snap some up as well. Perfect to build while at home instead of at my shop.
These are cool little buildings!
Would love info on the glue applicators.
Me too - I can’t see anything like them on Amazon
these are the ones i get: amzn.to/3A1pNh3
that thumbnail gave me real Toy Story 2 vibes
This looks very theraputic
It is very much so!
Kate, I love those sweet looking glasses of yours!
I've made a few of these before. They are super high quality and pretty easy to assemble. The downside is that they are pretty pricey and even small ones will set you back about 20-30$ a model.
You should design one for a Tardis. The layered pieces would make the POLICE BOX sign, the door panels and the windows really pop.
There are Tardis paper models out there.
Those applicators are excellent for thicker keyboard switch lubes!
Ok these are freaking cool! I think I'm gonna have to give this a try! 😍

Would absolutely love to do one of these of the Fujiwara Tofu Shop from Initial D!!!
Well done guys! 👍
Wow, it looks like a Z scale. I have a very small Z scale railroad. Great work! Thumbs up! Cheers!
A fun fascinating build. Maybe do a few more ... ??
We would love to!
It's so funny to me that humans like to make tiny little houses lol. Great video! :)
Awesome! 😊❤️
They look amazing and fun but what do you do with something that small when your done?
Can yall do a video on lighting workspace? If love papercraft but I found my home office lighting (mostly very dim and up high for 9-10 hours daily on the computer) insufficient.
A center for ants?
How can we be expected to teach children to learn how to read… if they can't even fit inside the building?
@wxw133 yup, and it needs to be at least 3 times bigger.
I have just built over 65 buildings of downloaded and self printed free cardstock, for my T Gauge (1/450 scale) model train layout. Try doing that.
Don´t get me wrong... but I love to see, that also GIRLS are into this hobby!!! :)
And by the way... this girl has a really BEAUTIFUL hair!!!
(And a cute smile!) :)
@11:47 Thank the makers... For a moment I thought the roof would have those visible joints 😮
I was wandering why you guys never tried to build the 1/220 kits that I've sent back in 2015 (Dorothy's house & the Firewatch tower)
Do they make a version slightly bigger than that? I will need a surgical magnifier just to look at the details! I remember you have a laser cutter, can you make one from scratch?
beautiful!
QUESTION: I noticed Norm working on one section at a time and then cutting out the next section(s), do you recommend not cutting all your pieces out at once? Or do the directions make this clear?
To each their own, but I find cutting all the pieces out at once gives room for confusion and mix-ups. A lesson learned from Gunpla
"these look super nice, Ill get myself a few of them for fun and to gift to friends!" ..... "they cost HOW MUCH?"
1/220 is exactly Model Train "Z" right? So cool.
Yes
Would have liked to see more of the inverted twizers
How long did they take to make?
I'm totally sucked in, I ordered a pile. Thinking of having some friends over and make them.
about an hour for each, with some chit chat throughout :)
@@tested Nice one thank you for your reply
There is a large community of paper/ card modelers. If you are interested goggle free paper models or paper models.
Hey Jim! I posted a link to the papermodelers forum in another comment.
@@murphsmodels8853 Murph I didn't see a direct post by you, But now I see the replies you made. See ya in the Forum
Fantastic 😮😉🤩👍💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎
many years ago i saw a crazy taiwanese make paper craft gundam head with a size at a grain of rice.
This would be good terrain for my Battletech games! Do they have building that are a bit more futuristic?
I was interested in trying these out but they are ridiculously expensive for something made out of paper. I build Metal Earth type kits all the time and these are cheaper and made of metal. I can't see why these papercraft kits cost so much. Yes they are imports, but most everything we get in the USA is imports, especially electronics and these are not marked up so high.
It's where it's coming from. A lot of imports come from China so it's relatively cheap but anything made in Japan now makes it expensive.
Search the net for Free paper/card models. This is a hobby the predates plastics, Napoleon used paper 2d figures to study tactics.
I would like to make some of these where can I get there kits
What scale is this?
Does it come in HO scale for train set scenery?
KATAMARI DAMACY!!!
The 'Kei' in the name is representative for small, as in the Kei cars of minute engine cc.
It's a real tiny house 🤏🏡🤔
Cool👍
I need 1:100 scale of this...
this guy talks like my physics teacher
I wonder if they make a one of Kmart!
Nice .... But i checked out the price's, DAMN..$ 26.00 for one of those tiny things ?
I know its far fetched but can we get Adam to either build an paint some 40k models or get him to play a game of MTG commander?
❤
And they make Studio Ghibli ones.
well, I think I've found a new hobby haha

How I long for my 30 year old eyes!
I want to buy one of these just to film one being smashed am I a bad person
I could almost watch a video if you guys, no talking to the camera, just building in real time. Or maybe just run it in the background.
Sounds like a good livestream idea!
Where subtitle? :(
noice
That's Z gauge

"American writing"-hmm...
The focus is painfully bad
just like your picture
I think Sankei is referring to きつい、汚い、危険. Hard, dirty, dangerous. 3Ks of shit jobs.
Only a yank could look at a set of illustrated instructions and wonder where to start 🤦🏻♂️
