It's amazing to me that us as human beings are so aware and curious of our mortality that we want to learn what happens to us when we die even though we won't know we're dead. Animals never think about their death or what will happen. They just live.
Fr like I look at how happy some animals be, they live their lives in the moment and dont think about the inevitability of their death one day. I wanna live like that cause the anxiety is ruining.

I’m an insurance claims assessor / investigator.... I’ve been to a few homes where people have died and were found several weeks later. It’s not fun. You usually notice the flies first. Then the smell, then the dead maggots, then you find the body. Depending on how long it’s been, the body can be in different states. Typically they start to melt. ... last one she basically melted through the bed. Blood had soaked into the concrete under the sheets, mattress, carpets and underlay. We had to grind the blood out of the concrete. The flies transport particles throughout the whole home, the smell doesn’t leave most porous surfaces. Most personal contents have to be destroyed, some can be saved with ozone treatment, but it’s difficult. The whole home needs to be basically be entirely re-furshined and fitted. Re-painted and everything etc.
We used to have a Lake place and there was a mobile home right above our place that belonged to a man we never really saw until one Fourth of July. I remember the smell even though we were probably 50-60 yards from the mobile home it was still a pretty strong stench so a family member went up to the house and looked in and the guy was sprawled out on the floor dead. Someone called 9/11 and the volunteer fire department and coroner came and took the body away in a dodge Caravan lol.
My coworker here in Alaska died of a massive heart attack and he was originally from upstate New York, no family up here. He wasn’t buried until 2 months later on what would have been his 57th birthday. I suppose he was kept in a freezer all that time and taken into a casket and brought up there for burial. There was no elaborate funeral or calling hours, just the honor guard, burial, and that was it.
I'm still grieving over a neighbor's death 3 weeks ago. It was 3-4 days when we noticed the stench and when he was found. I don't know what to feel knowing that this is what happened to him. His sister in law showed me the photo of the state of his body and it left a mental trauma in me that is making it harder for me to move on. 😢 Btw, there's no way Jack here could have an open casket funeral considering he was found 12 days after death. My neighbor had to be cremated because he was badly decomposed and that's just 4 days.

As someone who does trauma clean ups I can tell you that the smell is distinct and overpowering. The body leaves a dark brown color when it’s decomposing. I’ve done ones that were completely gone. People that weren’t found for weeks. It’s not pleasant
He's right when my grandpa passed away his jaw dropped like he seen a ghost or something and he turned as yellow as a lemon...crazy thing is this all happened in the matter of minutes of him passing as well
I’ve wondered for years what does happen to a body, and of course it does vary. I remember my great aunt I was close to that died at 91 in 2001. Just a month before I saw her and she was always in her usually lively mood. Two days before the wake, she died. I paid my respects to the little room and there was an unpleasant odor along with the flowers on the casket. Maybe that was a side odor of them. But I realized that wasn’t the flowers. The day of the funeral, the casket was heavily perfumed when the director opened the casket. Embalming doesn’t change everything. In the old days, there was no such thing except for the rich and the dead were buried the next day before blowflies and buzzards started making their way down.

Last summer my great grandmas neighbor died on the sofa and the whole building started smelling and no one knew why. 8 days later they checked out the apartment of the dead guy and the sofa and floor were wet and water damaged so the floor boards and the sofa got thrown out not far away in a container that was outside and the whole area started smelling dead corpse. So now I know how dead bodies smell.... it’s very disgusting and like death. Also the building smelled like decomposed trash all the time since the garbage got stuck in the garbage pipe so no one thought it was a big thing until it reeeallly started smelling.
See! This, this right here, is part of why I’m afraid of dying! Part of it is also that I’m afraid of the unknown, but part of it is that it will be embarrassing! I hate being embarrassed!
I remember my family (my mom, sister, and cousins) were driving around looking for rental homes to look at. We went inside one without a realtor, and the second we stepped inside we smelled the most foul, disturbing, intense odor ever. It was coming from the basement. We knew it was the smell of death; our instincts just knew it. We left immediately.
Obviously you've never seen an unattended death that sat for that long. He would have been Jack Soup at that point. Direct cremation. No way dude gets and open casket.
if you leave a dead body out in the open itll start growing maggots and grave worms inside the body since insects are laying eggs on and in the body, and larger creatures such as crows might feast on the sensitive and soft parts, such as the eyes. if jack had been left there for quite a long time that would happen with him too, minus the crows eating his eyes.
I'm glad he failed to highlight the maggot infestations that can often occur on a decomposing body. It's one if the worst things I've seen in the mortuary 🤢
Mine either gets loaded into a crematorium furnace, burnt to ashes and those ashes scattered along my favorite hiking trail or simply thrown back into the bush to get eaten by bears. Depends on how my family feels at the time.

Last summer my great grandmas neighbor died on the sofa and the whole building started smelling and no one knew why. 8 days later they checked out the apartment of the dead guy and the sofa and floor were wet and water damaged so the floor boards and the sofa got thrown out not far away in a container that was outside and the whole area started smelling dead corpse. So now I know how dead bodies smell.... it’s very disgusting and like death. Also the building smelled like decomposed trash all the time since the garbage got stuck in the garbage pipe so no one thought it was a big thing until it reeeallly started smelling.
See! This, this right here, is part of why I’m afraid of dying! Part of it is also that I’m afraid of the unknown, but part of it is that it will be embarrassing! I hate being embarrassed!

I remember my family (my mom, sister, and cousins) were driving around looking for rental homes to look at. We went inside one without a realtor, and the second we stepped inside we smelled the most foul, disturbing, intense odor ever. It was coming from the basement. We knew it was the smell of death; our instincts just knew it. We left immediately.

My uncle died yesterday with a sudden cardiac arrest due to constipation 😭😭😭.
My grandpa died of lung cancer, it was really sad, we had a funeral. I feel so sorry for your uncle. I hope they are enjoying the heaven.

Mine either gets loaded into a crematorium furnace, burnt to ashes and those ashes scattered along my favorite hiking trail or simply thrown back into the bush to get eaten by bears. Depends on how my family feels at the time.
