  • Each fall cows are herded through the Swiss town of Lauterbrunnen from their summer pastures in the mountains to their winter pastures in the valley, and it's a wonderful sight to see. When you visit and see the incredible surrounding mountains, including the Eiger, Moench and Jungfrau, and the many waterfalls and rustic valleys you can understand why the area is designated as the Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschhor UNESCO World Heritage Site. For hikes in this beautiful area check out this video • 10 Scenic Hikes in Swi...
Also, it's the most popular BASE jumping location in the world! We watched plenty of BASE jumpers and paragliders jumping off Murren's cliffs and landing in the Lauterbrunnen valley. Joe and I stuck to hiking and watching cows. 🤣

    That's so cute !
Been to Jungfrau region in the summer and saw the cows all over the mountains.
Now I need to visit again and see them going off the mountains ..

It's a lot of fun, and it's nice to see the kids and younger generation of farmers leading the way. Lots of cow poop though, lol!

What a cute video! I love some of the "hats" the cows are wearing.

The hats and the huge bells! It's so fun to watch. When you hike around the area you occasionally see vending machines along the way full of big chunks of cheese for sale. It's not exactly rough hiking, lol.

😮❤ that’s a lot of cows. The 🔔 bells look really heavy. 😅

It seems like the bells would make them tip over but somehow they manage it.

Do you know a date in 2023 when they will have this parade?

The dates depend on the weather and are only announced 7-10 days before the parades. In order to have the best chance of seeing them when we visited, I asked the Lauterbrunnen tourist office what the dates were in previous years. The dates were: September 17, 21, 24 & 26 in 2019; and September 15, 20, 22 in 2020. We made our lodging reservations for mid- September of 2022 and we saw two parades. The 2022 dates were September 6, 18, 19, 20.

Thank you! We plan to stay in Wengen September 10 - 14 and have considered extending our stay to have a better chance of seeing a parade.
