- Here's a look back at the Piedmont Airlines BWI hub operation from the mid 1980's. Lots of two and three-holers, Dash-7's, Shorts 330's, and more from the "Model of How Good an Airline Can Be'.
This company sure knew and enjoyed what they were doing. Crews were always in a great mood. I thought they would be an industry leader forever. I have a full set of first class dishware and glassware right here on my shelf.
My first ever flight connected through there back on the 4th of July, 1988. I flew Piedmont from SYR-BWI-PHX when I moved to Phoenix to attend DeVry Institute of Technology.
I always thought Piedmont was the Southwest of the Southeast! Happy workers with great attitudes, and the customers loved them!
Thanks for the priceless PI and Henson footage. One of the prized pieces in my airline memorabilia collection is the first PI BWI hub timetable. What an airline!! It is sorely missed.
What a great video. People today might find this sort of thing cheesy, but that's because they are used to the shitty anti passenger, anti customer, spineless airlines of today. Back then, when America had a backbone, we took great pride in the things we did. The airlines were special, and the bar was set very high for service and hospitality. It was a pleasure to travel. Half the fun of your vacation was THE FLIGHT ITSELF
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
AWESOME AIRLINE.....TOOK CLT TO THE NUMBER 1 HUB CITY...AND NOW THE LARGEST AIRLINE IN THE WORLD....AA .AND THE 5 BUSIEST AIRPORT IN THE US...AND STILL GROWING .....VR1
Nice to see that the video DID NOT have a bunch of 737-301s....Loved the props and the noise makers!!! :)
And who would’ve thought America West would be what it is now. All of these major companies meshed into one. HP.
i few from bwi a lot back when swa didn't hub it so much, it was a focus city for continental, and icelandair flew out of there instead of dulles, those where the days :)
Now, Id love to see something like this done on Ozark....I see you even caught a couple of Henson Beech 99s in there too!!
BWI look pretty busy to
Was hoping for one YS-11 to show up...
Great video.....Those Shorts turboprops were not the best plans to fly one...I guess the YS-11s had been retired by then....those were nice planes.
Dash 7
A couple of F-28's as well. Where did PI acquire them?
Empire
What type of Aircraft was that at7:36 for Henson Airlines?
I think that was a Dash 7.
+Miles Jajich Thank You!
***** Your welcome!
those aircraft are Dash 7's
+Tony F Yeah, we already know.
That was a big deal back in the day that a feeder airline had 727s' in their fleet.
At times I wonder it would've been like if Piedmont didn't merge with USAir!!! Piedmont could've become the official airline of the Orioles!!!
Johnson Waite thank deregulation for that
Ah, BWI dominated by 737s... everything old is new again...
