While is really fucked up that Steve managed to recover that deep, Lucas could’ve use freeze after the footstool or after coming back to the stage to kill steve at 0%. That situation is silly and I'm surprised it wasn't seen in the playtesting for Steve (Oh wait, Steve wasn't playtested💀) but ironically, that's one of the few situations where the other player actually had a Counterplay, Maister could've destroyed the Crafting Table which would've wasted some of Steve's Materials

@@triforce9286 Yes actually, he uses wood to summon the Crafting Table, if he is offstage the crafting table will keep falling off stage so it will consume its resources faster

The correct Steve counter play is pretty simple
Just grab a hammer and smash your Switch with it, problem solved
The strongest Steve counter play is literally just play a game that doesn’t actively sabotage it’s competitive players. Like, seriously, Nintendo could not give less of a damn about balancing smash to any meaningful capacity. You honestly might as well just learn a game that rewards you for actually getting good at it.
Love how every character that is 2nd or last released character turns out to have some broken mechanics/over the top moves

Steve should have def gotten a balance adjustment like making Minecart more laggy and doesn’t start up with SUPER ARMOR make his up air laggier so it’s not ladder combo city. And make his blocks easier to break: decrease how many he can have out at a time. He would still easily be a-s tier but now you have to be more careful where you place your blocks and how you use minecart making it more like ganondorf down b where you have a decent amount of endlag still making it a good burst option but not sonic spin dash with super armor.
They should also let lower tier characters lay down blocks, like dr mario, king dedede, king k rool, lil mac, and isabelle.
The fact that the stupid minecart is a projectile that can hold you in place is already broken on it’s own, Sakurai really overdesigned Steve while not doing much for Sora, yeah about Sora, he feels so underdeveloped and rushed, the kid has another down b counter in a game about bringing every character back with their own counters too.
@@AlexRodriguez-gb9ezI don't play comp Smash but that does seem to be the issue, Steve is very faithful to Minecraft's mechanics, which isn't entirely an issue, but Minecraft's enemies aren't known for being difficult mostly because Minecraft lets you build to complete safety, or you can just trap them in boats and minecarts, and when you translate that to a pvp game and let steve trap people in a moving minecart and build to safety, it becomes an issue. Atleast that's how I see it.

Professional Anti-Steve counter in 9 steps:
1. Locate the "home" button on the right joycon/right half of the controller and press firmly
2. Use the left stick to navigate towards the box that says Super Smash Brothers Ultimate
3. Once the game is outlined, press the X button
4. Confirm decision to close software
5. Navigate down and right to the power icon
6. Press the a button and activate sleep mode
7. Remove the switch from the doc and or any controllers directly connected to it
8. Hold the switch in your dominant hand and face the steve player
9. Aim and throw the switch directly at the steve player(s) [if the Steve player is not within range, face a direction with minimal obstacles and throw the switch as far as possible]

I didn't mind his addition in Smash, it made sense. He is however overtuned and def needs a nerfbat all around. One of the main things that would gut him as a character is aerial block creation, as even in his original game he can't do that. That by itself will get down on a lot of his shenanigans.
I would agree to getting rid of air blocks if every stage in the game had perfectly flat ground for the blocks to neatly mesh on
That's a whole part of his gameplay, they couldn't remove that. You think Mario can forward aerial in his games? Not to mention that it took ages to get the blocks to work on all the stages
@@aratherlargerodent That's over exaggerating. Removing air blocks wouldn't remove much of his options. It WOULD be hell to code for though. Especially since he needs to jump inorder to use blocks in the first place.

@@Rubyfire41What if he could only use aerial blocks if he hasn’t double jumped? Would still allow for the code to remain nearly the same and it might cut down on the combos a bit

Every Steve I've fought in quickplay does one of two things:
They win because Steve it's just broken.
OR
They rage quit because they're losing.
Either way, Steve is as much ass as the people that main him.

If we were going canon, it would be ridiculous, like, Joker could spam Arsene since thats how it works in persona, aside from using other even more powerful personas with all kind of abilities, Byleth could say no u, since he can rewind time in fe3h, Kirby could one shot planets with his ridiculous power level, Steve could literally become invencible activating creative mode, link could use his final smash (the ancient arrow) we he felt like it, Palutena being an OP deity and so on. And this is without considering specific moments in the characters story wich could be even more ridiculous, like link pulling the bow of light or joker just summoning Satanael, who is for those who don't know, a Persona as big as Palutena's temple.
It would be kind of funny to see unfiltered smash, to be honest.

On one hand, he’s broken as heck. On the other hand, it’s banning an entire fighter on the roster from competing. It’s surprisingly hard for me to say whether Steve deserved the ban or not.
It’s easy for me. Steve breaks the fundamental gameplay in an unintended way. He should absolutely get banned until they patch out hitstun removal.

We’re all getting baited by Nintendo. They won’t fix Steve in Ultimate, but they will fix him and Kazuya in Smash 6 as a selling point. Then, near the end of smash 6, they’ll add another broken character that they’ll refuse to fix, leaving the players wanting change, change Nintendo will provide in the next game as a selling point. You should also see how many "new" characters they added to the base game of Ultimate compared to Brawl or Smash 4 (echoes don't count unless they have decent differences). When Smash 4 was in development, they didn't originally plan on having DLC, so they were making all the new characters to put into the base game (for free). However, with the success of DLC sales, look how many "new" characters they added to base game of Ultimate while holding back others to sell for extra as DLC. Normally, a lot of those characters would have been free in the base game instead. Nintendo is giving as little as they can get away with to sell for extra what used to be free.

Everytime i see a steve online, i always have the audacity to have them mine for a diamond pickaxe just to try to beat them at their hardest.
I find it funny how willing the community is to play devil’s advocate for an overpowered character and argue that he’s fine. Despite what’s Steve has been shown to be capable of, and despite how not banning a busted character negatively affected the competitive scene and it ultimately leading to the fall of that scene. This isn’t anything new folks. All the nonsense he’s capable of, I swear Steve is a character made exclusively for obnoxious douchebags, my goodness. Smh

Unironically, the closest "match up" against steve might be sonic.
Steve would be fine if he didn't have kill moves aside from Minecart, Blocks, Anvil, and TnT.
Vertical Disjoints that are not centered on the character are very rare. These are all disjoints which can counter almost any recovery option in the entire game while often having safe out of options or even combo into themselves.
With TnT literally being Hero's Kamikaze but if Steve hits you he doesn't die as well. Anvil is Villager's Down Smash. Minecart is Sonic's Spin Dash that leaves a projectile if you cancel it. Blocks are PacMan's recovery's 3rd bounce but on all directions unless you have a damaging recovery. Even his durability system is better then Robin's who has to passively wait. Steve can use any break to mine without committing.
He would be fine if these were the only methods for him to ensure kills. But all his Smashes, a lot of his aerials, and some of his grabs are all viable giving him more kill moves them most characters.
Guy broke the game like never before, deserved.

Take out Steve and maybe Kazuya (you can make a case for him either staying or being banned) and I think Ultimate is by far the most balanced and fun smash game. Without those bans though, I am worried that this might turn into Smash 4 again, since Steve has some of the most braindead degenerate stuff while also having a huge skill ceiling. We did good by banning him, and here's to hoping everyone else does the same.
