      Sal. What a story. One of those stories that’s almost too unbelievable to be true. It took one more year but they got that natty for Sal. Never liked classless Holtz after the things he said.

    Man NBC need to have their football covers like this now. This classic music, I remember when I was a kid this was like larger than Life every New Year's so serious Charlie Jones calling the fiesta and the fiesta bowl , and Dick Enberg calling the Federal Express Orange bowl. And Don Criqci.

    To put ND at that moment into context, the Irish were coming off of having their 23-game winning streak broken against Miami on that same Orange Bowl in the preceding game, which was the last game of the year.
    The previous year against Miami, and in mid season against USC, ND got into a pregame fight in their tunnel. So ND admin told Holtz that if his players ever got into another fight again, there’d be serious consequences. Holtz said that he’d resign on the spot. So in the Miami game, when the Hurricane team came out to midfield for the coin toss and challenged the Irish to meet them, Holtz held them on the sideline. ND players hated that.
    So when the Buffs came out to midfield at the start of the game, and the Irish players awent out to meet them, let me tell you, it was emotional for ND fans! We loved that!

    • @matthewcole9418
      @matthewcole9418 6 месяцев назад

      The thing is Notre Dame didn't even have to play Miami that season. Their schedule was tough enough that they could have scheduled a cupcake instead and gone undefeated and therefore would have won a National Championship.

      @@christopherhazel2837 literally no one could beat Miami at the Orange Bowl back then. ND basically had an impossible task. With that said, I understand why Miami was crowned champs. As it is, ND then deserved the 1993 title. Either way, ND/Holtz should have had two titles; 1988 and either 1989 or 1993.
