It also is a misconception that it was normal at the time to marry that Jung. Yes it was legal to marry your daughter of at the age of twelve but that wasn't the norm and only happened in a few cases in the upper class. The normal marriage age for women at the time was around 18-21 and ther men normal was not so much older.
Yeah, it really wasn't the norm at all. Girls could be betrothed that young, but it was really uncommon for them to get married that young. Even the natural grossness aside, the risk of dying in childbirth is infinitely higher at that age than the more normal (at the time) marrying age of ~20. Any society that normalizes thirteen-year-old girls having babies will soon find itself without any women to have babies.
I read somewhere that the reason she uses childish phrases like “Enoughsies” and “Birds and Bees” is because she was robbed of her childhood. I don’t know if it’s true but heh.
It’s true! She started being sexualized at 12, was ‘involved with’ the music teacher at age 13, was raped by her grandma secretary hence the “he gets what he wants and he won’t take no,” was abused by Henry starting around age 15-17 and was publicly executed by 17-19.

This song is definitely the best at storytelling, but there are a few things that you should know. Manox was actually in his late thirties. He groomed Katherine when he was serving as her music teacher. The second of her relationships was Dereham, which was actually a consensual yet secret and forbidden relationship. Still, the power dynamics based on age are questionable. Finally, Thomas Culpepper was Henry's courtier, who Katherine allegedly had an affair with, but it should be brought up that Culpeper was pardoned for r**e before their relationship, and I've heard (not 100% sure on this) that Katherine claimed Thomas had r***d her as well. Henry was not only unhappy that Katherine had allegedly cheated, but also that she wasn't a virgin, and had her beheaded at the age of 19. Her musical inspirations are two popstars who were portrayed as innocent yet sexy, Britney Spears and Ariana Grande. The next scene will be the Queens Fight, which occurs right after this song.
If I remember correctly, it was proven that Katherine and Mannox never had intercourse but did do other things for pleasure. And with Thomas Culpeper there's some belief that that relationship was also consensual because it's believed that Katherine's last words before being beheaded were "I die a queen, but I'd rather die the wife of Culpeper." And she was either beheaded at the age of 17 or 19 because there are unfortunately no official records of her birth :(((((( It's so sadddddd

“Apparently some men just employ women to get them into their private chambers... It was a different time” -Katherine Howard (a quote from the musical, not history)
Dont worry Cristine, it was to everyone be uncomfortable with. I dont remember if she told or the king discover itself. Also, i think the last guy forced her and then threatened her.
Katherine’s relationship with Mannox was when she was around 13 Katherine’s relationship with Dereham was when she was around 15 Katherine married Henry at around 17 Katherine reportedly had an affair with Thomas and was executed for it aged only 19 Each incident 2 years apart. That’s how I remember it.
The reason girls in the modern era start their periods so early is due to hormone treatment in the foods. Back in Katherine's time periods typically didn't start until 16 years old at earliest. It's a common misconception that girls back then married around 13. She was underage even by their standards. What's more, Thomas is wildly believed to have assulted Howard.
Girls starting their periods earlier now is more to do with us having better nutrition, if I'm not mistaken. Iirc the average age is around 12, but I wouldn't be surprised if the few that started around 9 or 10 were getting hormone treatments. The proof is that in places where nutrition isn't as good as it is in the West, girls often start their periods later, and girls with anorexia often have their periods stop entirely.
You should see the live performance of this song, since you can tell that she is hurting throughout the whole song by not only being a victim of abuse and being only objectified by every men she was with. She basically starts crying in the middle of the song.
Quick vent: I feel so bad for Katherine this girl had her child hood Stripped Away at such a young age. She didn't have a chance to experience love she only knew that men were people who would just take advantage of you and the person she trusted the most and thought was her friend (the guy after Henry) raped her blamed it on her and then she got executed for cheating!!!!! She was such a people pleaser she was practicing how to lay her head the night before she was executed, also I heard that the Executioner was not so trained so on the first time instead of her getting killed right away the axe went into her back first and then they had to do it again she was probably in so much pain... to put it bluntly Katharine lived and died in agony

I think that part of the glass shattering where Kat was laying her head on the table was her practicing her position on how she's gonna be beheaded, but dang she had a bad execution
If you are referencing the myth that Katherine Howard had been hit in the back a few times before she was actually beheaded because the executioner was inexperienced, that isnt true. K Howard's execution was flawless and swift. You might be confusing Howard's execution and beheading with Mary Queen of the Scots'.
I got to see this show live on Broadway and the actress who play Katherine was absolutely amazing! During All You Wanna Do you could see it in her dance movements how irritated she was getting with the same thing happening to her over and over again with every man she was with, even getting uncomfortable when the other Queens would start touching her, and by the end of the song during the final course her character has a mental break down while singing and starts crying. She literally screams begging to know “When will enough be enough?!”. When the song ended she broke out into tears and left the audience in shock from her sad story. She was amazing! You really felt her pain through the actress portraying her. The entire show was a great experience overall
12:48 i think that was a reference from a report that they made at that time, in which they said that Katherine during her imprisonment asked for something to lay her head to practice before her beheading...
Yeah, I should have warned you about this one. Now you know why I couldn’t sleep for days after listening to this musical. I love it, but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t deeply upset me. The song itself and the animatic do a phenomenal job at providing an exciting artistic experience while conveying the uncomfortable and horrifying underlying tone.
Catherine of Aragon was married to Henry for longer than Katherine Howard was alive. Let that sink in. This song breaks my heart; I'd recommend watching the Broadway version of this, its phenomenal.
@@sidukaszs Well, I think this story is more heartbreaking, (probably because Jane's story was so short) but in terms of songs, I think both are the same level of sadness and despair.
Hey, Christine! The live action/performance is definitely something I recommend after you've finished all of the songs. Just an FYI that all live original cast actions have only 2/6 studio cast. Aimie Atkinson (Howard) and Natalie Paris (Seymour). The rest didn't go off into west end original cast. Um, but I recommend it nontheless. Also the next animatic is Queen's Fight. Not a song, but enjoyable.
6:55 for those of you who don’t know a lady-in-waiting or court lady is a female personal assistant at a court, attending on a royal woman or a high-ranking noblewoman. Historically, in Europe, a lady-in-waiting was often a noblewoman but of lower rank than the woman to whom she attended. So this means that Kathrine was a maid to a higher noble woman/royal, she was not yet royal herself yet.
I think people misunderstand this song in that she wanted to be married to Henry and wanted to be with Thomas, but her excitement about meeting Henry could just be the fact that she knows the king and that he gave her a career. She did say she was done with boys, but of course she couldn’t reject the king. And when she began singing about Thomas, she emphasized the fact that they were just friends and nothing more. The sadness in the end, in my personal opinion, didn’t seem like it was because she went into a relationship hoping for a better one than the last. She just wanted to be friends with a guy who didn’t befriend her just to get with her. Not to mention, she was very young compared to these men, so I think she was most likely with them against her will.
If you’ll notice, Katherine’s lyrics about what all the guys want to do to her go from whimsical and loving in the beginning to violent and selfish by the end. It’s just another way of showing how she was just a child, a victim of the men around her.
I love how you complement the graphics of the video. Putting the feelings in the graphics is actually hard. The most heartbreaking song in Six for me is actually All you want to do.
I would recommend checking out the live performance of this by samantha pauly! There arent many reaction videos on it, but her performance is absolutely HEART WRENCHING. If you think the original song is sad and uncomfortable, by the end of that one you’ll be crying actual tears
Katherine was the lady in waiting to Anna of cleves and they both had a close friendship. She was also first cousins to Anne Boleyn, Henry’s second wife. Coulpper and Derhem were both beheaded days before Katherine as well and it’s said that their heads were shown as Katherine walked to where she was going to be beheaded. As she was walking up to the stand, she was super shaky and frantic. She also practiced laying her head down on the slab the night before the beheading and the guards had to take anything she could potentially kill herself with due to her being so frantic.
I'm pretty sure that Anne was the one he loved the most. Katherine Parr and Catherine of Aragon were the ones he treated as friends more than wives. Anna of Cleves the worst. Katherine Howard lovingly because of her beauty and to possibly recapture his youth because she was young while he wasn't. And jane pretty well, she only was barried where she is today because she gave birth to a son.

12 was indeed the youngest age to get married for girls (boys were 'ready' around age 15'). BUT, is was not normal. Henry VIII's grandmother was married at 12 and had her only child when she was 13 and people thought she was too young for it. It was a miracle she survived. Most noble girls did not get married before 15 - 16, which is still young. People from lower classes got married at healthier ages, because they needed money to get a house, etc. The child marriages were usually reserved for girls from rich families.
CVanny I feel like that's probably true because Henry accused Catherine of Aragon of already sleeping with his brother when Catherine and Arthur (Henry's brother) were married and Arthur hadn't died yet, which was why she supposedly couldn't have a child. But those were probably both excuses to find another woman
The actual charge against her was not disclosing her sexual history to the king. He passed a law after he arrested her that made it treason to not disclose any sexual history to the King within the first 20 days of marriage.
Not very fun fact, but Katherine Howard also had the worst death as when she was getting beheaded the swords man missed (as they were new) and hit her back and got stuck (for quite a bit as well) Making her have a very long death as they got the sword out first then tried once again.
Katherine was the youngest of all wives, and suffered from a very young age. She was manipulated by men, and then beheaded before she could know what true love was. Pd: You should watch The animatic of "Queens fight scene" by Damia. It's amazing!
There are so many good animatics for Six, the musical, out there. This one isn't finished, but OH! what they did with what they DID finish! It's SO good, the way they portray the song, is bar none, the best I've seen. The title of the video is "SIX (Unfinished animatic)" by Cipherdoodles. I don't know if you'll be down to listen to the same song, twice, but the "Don't Lose Your Head" video by Mokii is also ridiculously good.
13:31 from I know, The Archbishop of Canterbury at the time, Thomas Cranmer found out that they were hanging out and have affection by looking at a letter. Thomas Cranmer reported to the king. He didn't want to believe Thomas Cranmer but he had to because all of the evidence added up to be that Katherine Howard was 'cheating'. Then he executed Katherine Howard, Thomas Culpepper, and other two
As stated below (sort of) nobody really knows whether she did or didn’t cheat on Henry, but we do now she was being blackmailed by the grandmother’s “secretary”. Her family would have had many rivals and enemies (with their own daughters waiting in the wings) so even if one got wind of a rumor it would have gone e straight to the king’s ear. And now knowing she was being blackmailed, there would at the least be a strange man running in and out of her private apartments. We also know her lady I. Waiting , Jane Parker, was also beheaded because supposedly she had set up meetings between her and the former lover.
1# Henry Manox was actually 31! (GAG!😨) 2# Francis actually did have a relationship with Catherine. It was just that it was a relationship more like the ones today: intimate and loving, which was rather looked down upon at the time 3# Henry didn't behead Catherine out of anger or something. It was some twisted law that a woman had to disclose her intimacy history to her husband within ten days of their hunny moon. Catherine didn't do this, and Henry tried to deny that she had broken this law because he truly loved her, calling her his "English rose without a thorn", but in the end she died.
There are a few hidden meanings on some lyrics like (Dont press read more if you're not old enough of something) Blowing the flute (Probably a blow--) He plucked my Strings all the way to G Favorite Quill (His thingy) Spilled Ink all over the Parchment (A boy's liquid) My wrist was so tired
Katherine's music teacher actually raped her when she was a child and she lived in a girls home without her parents so no one forced her to be with him. Her other partners just used her for her body. When she married Henry, he was 49 and she was around 17. He beheaded her when she was in her early 20's after he found out about her past
She was older with Francis, but still about 15 yo, since she married Henry when she was about 17 (as historians believe) She was his fourth wife maid, per say, and if I'm not mistaken he married the king the same day he divorced Anna of Cleves Thomas was her cousin, btw, and it's believed that Katherine trash talked the king's sexual performance and that's why she was judged with treason (but she did had a LOT of lovers) Also, her marriage only lasted three years, so she was probably executed at the age of 20. To compare, Catherine of Aragon, the first wife, was married 24 years. Henry's first marriage lasted longer than his fifth wife's life
Henry Mannox was actually about 36 not 23. Katherine was in fact 13 with Mannox and 14 when she was with Francis. And the night thing at the end when she was in prison, she was practicing laying her head on the block because 1 that's actually something that happened 2 people always thought she was perfect so she wanted people to think she was perfect till the very end :((((((
I believe that scene of her in prison is supposed to be her practicing for her execution. She asked for the block to be brought to her the day before so she could practice placing her head on it. Lots of botched executions back then, and she wanted to die with as much grace and dignity as possible.
Now, one important thing to node is that the first guy, Henry Manox, was 32 and groomed by him. The second relationship was, while forbidden, consensual. After marrying Henry VIII, it’s unclear what happened with Thomas, whether it was consensual or not, though most believe otherwise because while waiting for execution in what was essentially prison, they had to take all sharp or dangerous objects from her, because she continuously tried to kill herself. More recent information revealed that Thomas was actually her cousin, leading historians to believe it even more likely was a rape. Essentially, Katherine Howard was executed at age 19 for being raped by her cousin, who was pardoned for his crime. The executioner missed her neck the first time, wedging the axe in her back, leaving her in agony for hours while they tried to get the axe out, only being properly beheaded once they did. King Henry then ordered for Lime to be poured over her corpse, and had her birth documents destroyed. He wanted her erased from history.

@@AshleesBathroom yeah she might have been 17 when she married henry, but her birth date is unknown, so she may have been as young as 15 depending on her birth date, I probably should have meant that, her age at death differs depending on what source you look at :)
“Apparently some men just employ women to get them into their private chambers... It was a different time” -Katherine Howard (a quote from the musical, not history)

Yup
Thank you!You too.
Dont worry Cristine, it was to everyone be uncomfortable with. I dont remember if she told or the king discover itself. Also, i think the last guy forced her and then threatened her.
Katherine’s relationship with Mannox was when she was around 13
Katherine’s relationship with Dereham was when she was around 15
Katherine married Henry at around 17
Katherine reportedly had an affair with Thomas and was executed for it aged only 19
Each incident 2 years apart. That’s how I remember it.
and the relationship with Dereham lasted only three months because he was executed for High Treason (and for likely assaulting Catherine)
That’s so sad that she got abused every two years T ^ T
The reason girls in the modern era start their periods so early is due to hormone treatment in the foods. Back in Katherine's time periods typically didn't start until 16 years old at earliest. It's a common misconception that girls back then married around 13. She was underage even by their standards. What's more, Thomas is wildly believed to have assulted Howard.
It wasn’t uncommon for royal brides but it was mostly paper marriages, meaning no physical touching.
Could I please get links to the papers about this?
Um, no it's not. WRONG! There is NO proof that hormones in food cause early puberty.
Quick vent:
I feel so bad for Katherine this girl had her child hood Stripped Away at such a young age.

Yeah. Ouch.
Nah it's an execution block
She asked to get a chopping block to her chambers so she could practice
@@Jam13MF yeah, sorry thx for the correction
If you are referencing the myth that Katherine Howard had been hit in the back a few times before she was actually beheaded because the executioner was inexperienced, that isnt true. K Howard's execution was flawless and swift. You might be confusing Howard's execution and beheading with Mary Queen of the Scots'.
@@AshleesBathroom sorry, thank you for the information
“Fun” fact. Henry Mannox was actually 36. It’s just in the musical that he was 23.
@@stara111 yeah, I think that’s why they changed it. 23 just has a better flow with the song.
And it gets the point across
Small Detail: She sounds less enthusiastic and more despair-full every time she says they have a connection
You should watch the "Queen fight" next. It's what comes after this song and it's REALLY funny
Also I thought the timing was kinda funny how she paused and asked how old they were, and as soon as she pushed play her question was answered lol
Katherine was only like 17 when she married Henry the 8th. Henry had 3 children and one of them was in their late 20's.
How old is he? someone let me know down below.

Fun fact: Henry M was actually 36 when Howard was 13 and Thomas was her cousin
Don’t_Know_Anymore Um yeah 23 means 23 years older than her
12:48 i think that was a reference from a report that they made at that time, in which they said that Katherine during her imprisonment asked for something to lay her head to practice before her beheading...

This song breaks my heart; I'd recommend watching the Broadway version of this, its phenomenal.
oh frick i'm early as hell and i dont even have notifs on.
anyways, this one was definitely one of the saddest songs in the musical.
Right next to 'Heart of Stone' imo
@@Teudlanif true, although jane's story really was short
@@sidukaszs Well, I think this story is more heartbreaking, (probably because Jane's story was so short) but in terms of songs, I think both are the same level of sadness and despair.
I’ve been waiting so long for this, you don’t even knOW-
Hey, Christine!
YASSSS!! SHE DID AYEGEE ART!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! 😭😭😭
Ayyeeee she’s wearing cory’s merch😂
the next one is Queens Fight Scene. the one by damia has gorgeous art
Her story really does disturb me so much 😞 She was so young..
I would like the live action reaction of this song, it hits different
I'm pretty sure that Anne was the one he loved the most. Katherine Parr and Catherine of Aragon were the ones he treated as friends more than wives. Anna of Cleves the worst. Katherine Howard lovingly because of her beauty and to possibly recapture his youth because she was young while he wasn't. And jane pretty well, she only was barried where she is today because she gave birth to a son.
every time I listen to this song I’m thinking about the live version and I get THE chills cuz the performance is SO EMOTIONAL it takes all she’s felling and delivers greatly I highly recommend you watch it
For the next song i really suggest to watch the animation of Gigizettz - I don’t need your love . Its so fun and so perfectly done . The art is amazing. Its like watching a short film with a strong message.

The child marriages were usually reserved for girls from rich families.
hhHHHhh THIS ONE IS MY FAVORITTTTTTEEE- It's so sad but it's a bop at the same tiMe and I love hitting those high n0teSss-
And yes, they cut off her head cuz she was with the other guy, but I think they DIDINT sleep with each other.... :T
Edit: correct me if I’m wrong tho
I think I heard that Henry beheaded her because she wasn't a virgin... (idk, this is messed up, poor Katherine.)
@CVanny oooooooh!! Okay thank you I didn’t knew that, yeah that’s messed up, I feel bad for Katherine TwT
I mean he also accused Anne Boleyn of incest with her brother George so...
I’d love to see her rewatch it in the live version of Sam Pauly!!!
The next is the "Fight Scene" I think then "I dont need your love" Kathrine Parr's Story/Song
Also, the second guy she was singing about, the whole ink and quill thing was a sexual innuendo.
As CasualGeo would put it, Dereham didn't apply but he got a job.
I love her reactions! She gets these stories so well and its super entertaining! 💗💗
Omg the bees said come along with me adventure time vibs omg-

There are so many good animatics for Six, the musical, out there. This one isn't finished, but OH! what they did with what they DID finish! It's SO good, the way they portray the song, is bar none, the best I've seen. The title of the video is "SIX (Unfinished animatic)" by Cipherdoodles.
I don't know if you'll be down to listen to the same song, twice, but the "Don't Lose Your Head" video by Mokii is also ridiculously good.
Phillip Hamilton was 19 when he died
Katherine Howard was 19 when she died
13:31 from I know, The Archbishop of Canterbury at the time, Thomas Cranmer found out that they were hanging out and have affection by looking at a letter. Thomas Cranmer reported to the king. He didn't want to believe Thomas Cranmer but he had to because all of the evidence added up to be that Katherine Howard was 'cheating'. Then he executed Katherine Howard, Thomas Culpepper, and other two
I appreciate she's wearing CorxKenshin's merch.
You are amazing, you deserve happiness and joy never forget that
1# Henry Manox was actually 31! (GAG!😨)
2# Francis actually did have a relationship with Catherine. It was just that it was a relationship more like the ones today: intimate and loving, which was rather looked down upon at the time
3# Henry didn't behead Catherine out of anger or something. It was some twisted law that a woman had to disclose her intimacy history to her husband within ten days of their hunny moon. Catherine didn't do this, and Henry tried to deny that she had broken this law because he truly loved her, calling her his "English rose without a thorn", but in the end she died.
He was actually 36 when he raped her and 42 when she was killed.
i have been waiting for ages for her to listen to this song xD
The word "connection" was the equivalent to "u up?" Texts nowadays
She wasn't even 18 when she marryed Henry. She was 17. Let me say that again. SHE WAS 17 WHEN SHE WAS MARRED TO HIM

PLEASE SEE IT ALIVE, IT'S MAJESTIC!
Katherine's music teacher actually raped her when she was a child and she lived in a girls home without her parents so no one forced her to be with him. Her other partners just used her for her body. When she married Henry, he was 49 and she was around 17. He beheaded her when she was in her early 20's after he found out about her past
Actually, he was 49 when he married her and she was 17-18.
She was older with Francis, but still about 15 yo, since she married Henry when she was about 17 (as historians believe)
She was his fourth wife maid, per say, and if I'm not mistaken he married the king the same day he divorced Anna of Cleves
Thomas was her cousin, btw, and it's believed that Katherine trash talked the king's sexual performance and that's why she was judged with treason (but she did had a LOT of lovers)
Also, her marriage only lasted three years, so she was probably executed at the age of 20.
To compare, Catherine of Aragon, the first wife, was married 24 years. Henry's first marriage lasted longer than his fifth wife's life
She was executed at the age of 18, so she was underaged when all of this happend. That's why she uses childish phrases, she was a child.
Ugh, she's my favorite out of the queen, and I'm so glad you reacted to her.
Henry Mannox was actually about 36 not 23. Katherine was in fact 13 with Mannox and 14 when she was with Francis.
And the night thing at the end when she was in prison, she was practicing laying her head on the block because 1 that's actually something that happened 2 people always thought she was perfect so she wanted people to think she was perfect till the very end :((((((
This is one of my favorite SIX songs, thank you so much for reacting to it ❤
