    That rhipsalis baccifera looks so incredibly healthy! I can imagine how pleasant it must be to touch it : ) Thanks for sharing your soil mix. My rhipsalis are not thriving, I just keep them going and I suspect it must be that my soil is way too poor, since I make sure to water them weekly. Next repotting I'll try to improve the soil mix for them according to yours. I do mix in some bark which seems to help a bit. Finding it difficult to find the pure peat (except those humongous bags of peat moss), but I noticed B&Q does a soil that is 80% peat. I've also experimented on some of my more moisture loving plants with coco coir fibres, but in my experience it does dry out easily.

      So happy you like this Rhipsalis baccifera Nathalie :-D its a nice and soft one to touch and feels like grass haha :-D yes haha the bags of peat in the garden centres are so huge and small bags are so hard to find, the bark is great to use with these plants too, thanks so much for your wonderful friendship and support and amazing comments and for watching, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from Belfast to Dublin for a fantastic Tuesday XXXX

    That is such a good tip to wait after repotting to water. I am fairly new to succulents and I think watering after I repotted by rat tail cactus caused it to get root and stem rot very fast unfortunately. Hard lesson to learn.

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  4 года назад

      Thats a shame about your rats tail cactus, and cacti can be so prone to rotting if they are watered straight after repotting, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful weekend XXXX

    What a beauty. If I could find this one, I would definitely buy it. 💞. I have a question Lynn. I recently noticed that my Easter cactus had puckered leaves( 50% ) not all. I heard this happens when it’s overwatered. I took it out of the pot and the soil was very wet. I removed most of the wet soil from around the roots and added Orchid bark to help with air flow. Should this fix the problem? And how long will it take to look healthy again? Thanks for any advise. 💞

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  4 года назад +1

      Hi Sheila :-D thats wonderful that you have changed the soil on your Easter cactus, and orchid bark is perfect for them, I have noticed that my Hatiora mini Easter Cacti go like this from spring until mid fall too, I am not sure why it happens but I notice the leaves on mine go very dehydrated looking and shrivelled, but when I check the roots and soil are good, and the stems of the cacti are healthy but the leaves look like shrivelled up balloons haha :-D but they always perk back up again from mid fall onwards and the leaves plump back up until the following spring, its a mystery, and many other growers I know who have these cacti notice it happens too, I mist the leaves daily with rainwater to keep the plant humidified as they love higher humidity but it doesn't seem to solve the problem, its a mystery, thanks so much Sheila for your wonderful support and comments and for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful weekend XXXX

      Hi Melissa :-D I usually put towels or newspaper under the pots to help to dry out the soil from below, here is a video I made on How I dry the soil out in cactus pots : ruclips.net/video/Ouj3MDLCEqI/видео.html thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful weekend XXXX

    Hi, oh my goodness your plant looks awesome, nothing like mine in fact all of the sudden it started dropping its "hair ' like crazy and I have no idea why and how to stop it.Its been in my house for 4 years. I water it once a week and it has a fair amount of light. Every week I pic up a handfuls of what it looks like a healthy "hair" from the table. What is wrong with it ?
    Can you help please ? thank you!

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  2 года назад +1

      Hi Tylly, so sorry for only seeing your comment now, thats a shame that your Rhipsalis is doing this, they are very prone to dropping their hair like stems, but if its excessive an da lot more than usual it can be caused from either being underpotted or due to tiny insect pests like tiny thrips or mealy bugs, often these insect pests are extremely tiny and not always visible to the human eye, especially thrips and spider mites, if there are no signs at all of any insect pests hiding under and on the leaves, a repot into fresh soil may give it a booster, good luck with your Rhipsalis and thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching XXXX
