    The high res mode for film scanning has been on my mind. It's more than just megapixels imo. The benefit is the cancellation of any sort of extrapolation done during regular debayering so it renders sharper details and colours with more fidelity. Much like a traditional CCD sensor or film scanner that uses multiple passes to build each RGB layer.

    My TTartisan 25mm F2 has the same issue. But to be honest when shooting street I use hyperfocal distance and F8 most of the time. Works fine for me. But I really enjoy the images. They look 3D to me, not talking about bokeh. Even my 23mm F2 Fuji lens is collecting dust since I use this lens. For 70 EUR, it's insane... 😅

      I own the TTArtisan 25f2 too and I’m really happy with it on my xpro3. I also use it mostly at hyperfocal on f/8 and perhaps don’t get so disappointed with the flaws: wide open is not corner sharp and worse, it’s not homogeneous on the 4 corners (top left is worse). It’s not a deal breaker for the price and I consider it mostly a funny lens for street photography and I need the sharpness mostly on the center and kinda like the pronounced vignette and the corner blur; I’m not disappointed and it’s more an artistic lens then something for serious work. I also don’t imagine myself trying to focus trough the marks with lens wide open, even at f/2 should be quite a shallow depth of field and hard to focus without at the viewfinder with focus peaking. I’m hopping to get the 18 and 27mm Voigtlanders but when I upgrade for a 40mp sensor where I intend to use glass that can take real advantage of such sensor. Meanwhile TTArtisan is a great lens for the job, I like it so much that I got the 17mm f/1.4 too.

    I have the 28mm Thypoch Simera on order and can’t wait to get it. The difficulty in focusing the Voigtlander Ultron in street photography was my main reason for choosing the Thypoch.

    I think the lenses get so big because reviews and articles are often just focussed on optical performance and pixel peeping to predecessors. I mean yes, obviously you can correct more and improve IQ the bigger you make it but who wants to carry around that stuff. But as long as people spend 80% of a review talking about IQ, aberrations, bokeh etc and one sentence about the size lens manufacturers just keep going bigger to have something to show in the optical improvements department.

    • @frame-lines

      @@TheVFXbyArt It's same form factor as the 27mm F2 in the video, I like the small size, but shooting at night sometimes I wish it's a F2 lens. 28mm focal length makes zone focus much easier even with the focus ring issue, at F5.6 I can confidently zone focus. I like this lens very much, looks good on my X-Pro3, but I hope one day voigtlander will make a version 2 with F2 and fix the focus ring problem.

  • @creative_cozmic
    @creative_cozmic 4 месяца назад +1

    I would say that Voigtlander could be used for zone focusing but it misses out on 2m and 3m markings as well as being a tiny focus throw. I definitely prefer FF and FF manual lenses with better markings. Saying that my 40mm f1.2 E has a pretty short focus throw between 2m and ∞. I don't really do focus by feel as I'm not really a street photography 'hunter' but I do zone focus quite a bit and just make sure I capture subjects within the focus zone. Focus by feel is one area where Leica lenses really excel and it's no wonder they are popular for street photography, even at the prices they sell for.

    I was taken aback at how good the images are and there are markings for 1m, 2m and 5m.

    I visited NYC in 2019 and attended the Brooklyn Museum to attend the Gary Winogrand color exhibition. I had a docent lead tour with one other. I didn’t know he took color images. Apparently, sometimes he’d go out with two Leicas. One would have color film. Sometimes he would take essentially the same image with the B&W & color film.
    I loved his images of Coney Island with the beach crowded. The exhibit was in a large dark area. There were several stations where several images were projected. I rushed to the museum store to purchase the exhibit book. Imagine my surprise and disappointment when there wasn’t a book for sale. The new color book, which I haven’t purchased yet, must be the book I wanted. I am so excited. Ordering the magazine this afternoon. I know it isn’t your fault. It is relatively expensive posting the magazine across the pond.
    Speaking of excited, five more days for the X100VI announcement!
    Sorry about the 27mm pancake lens not working out. Other than not being able to zone focus it sounds like a nice lens. I just purchased the Fuji 27mm Mi. Lens. It is small and lightweight. It is, I suppose, a Goldilocks focal length.
