I left school in 1978 and went straight into painting / decorating and we used these rigs between ladders and a single plank all the time but not as high as these guys . I thought they were outlawed about 20 years ago or more . Nowadays I have one bloody big ladder and if I can't get it off that then it needs scaffolding!
Oh yea, same here, did some dangerous stuff when I was very young, I’m still in the building game, 66years old, and it’s scaffold all the time for me, no ladder irons or cat ladders, a comfortable scaffold
The planks are at 32' , the men are 38' at head height! Kind of high to be working off of ladder jacks! A towable boom lift is the way to go on jobs like this!
And this is the USA. I thought Health & Safety legislation was tighter there than the UK. Obviously not. Respect to those steeplejacks. It's one job I just couldn't do.
Its so funny that the girls from the UK are shocked at seeing real working men who know what they are doing. In the UK, everyone is a slave to an overweening government that beats into their heads that everyone is a child, and government is there to load you up with all sorts of bureaucratic crap for 'safety". Yet this company has a perfect safety record. They know what they are doing.
The phone number looks to be American. Area code 612 is Minnesota. And yeah, lot of OSHA safety violations. Kind of surprised that they would put this out on RUclips.
Yeah kinda surprised too..fellas on ladder/scaffold that are painting gotta be tied off with appropriate gear..strange. I sure would be..but they look to be doing fine job on the church.
Thats really cool and you guys are fearless. But how did you get the rigging to the top of the steeple? And also also. Why aren't your guys tied off on the picks?
There is no way a cherry picker could get there. The ground falls away steeply on that side. These Americans know what they are doing. Nobody has gotten killed or hurt at that company since its inception. Now go along and praise your almighty government regulations.
@@celticman1909 Do you wonder why England is not competitive anymore? You guys let nannies in government tell you what to do. They know exactly what they are doing.
And yet this company has an excellent safety record. No deaths in many years of business, no serious injuries beyond minor stuff that happens to every construction company. You UK people seem to have developed an insane desire for perfect safety.
NOPE! NO WAY NO HOW! NOT GONNA HAPPEN! I don’t care what it pays or how strong the ropes are I like my feet right down on the ground. Be safe up there guys!!!
I've done high work others were scared to do, spent years on tall ladders, lifts, roofs, etc. Never considered myself scared of heights. With that said, I always felt a moment of relief when I got back on the ground so my senses could relax a bit.
Guess they like replacing wood shakes on that steeple?? Wood shakes are garbage and only last half the life of shingles. Hell metal would have been better. Still a crazy job to do!
As impressive as this work is, i hate to see workers, working off of planks, many 10s of feet in the air, with no fall arrest gear. It doesn't make any since, and is highly risky.
The company has never had any safety problems. No one has ever been hurt. They just know what they are doing. Now go back to your government and tell on them.
I got news for you. Those guys on the scaffold certainly would have OSHA fines coming too them. That shit is not safety approved and they had no harnesses or any fall protection at all. Idiots.
Why don't you get a job that no one else wants to do and the customer cant afford. Because of the socialist.. live your life for you govenment interference.. Their life.... Their choice... DON'T YOU SOCIALISTS SAY THE SAME ABOUT WOMEN AND KILLING BABIES IN THE WOMB.? HYPOCRITE.
@@karlfulton4854 Because of the socialist? Since when have insurance companies been socialists? They are the ones who lobby for safety measures because it gets them out of paying MILLIONS. Also, it's their life, their choice, until they die and their family sues. Guess what, suing for the death of a family member is not exclusive to one political demographic. Also, if the customer can't afford it, that means they can't afford the property, and they should sell it. You don't own a car that is out of your maintenance budget, do you? Why should you own a building that is? Owning things involves maintenance, if the maintenance is out of your budget, you shouldn't own it. That is economics 101. You aren't very smart, are you? Frankly, you are the type of idiot that does shit to endanger you and the people around you, and if you died, YOUR family would likely be the first one in line to sue. But see, because of OSHA rules, your employer would cite your actions and how they were negligent, then point to company procedures outlined in the company handbook. All of this is what his insurance companies lawyer would point to and base his case on. After all the ballyhoo a judge would find in the favor of your employer and their insurance company and you family would walk out of the courtroom penniless. It's at this point someone, somewhere in the insurance company smiles and says "Good thing we spend all that money lobbying for safety laws to protect us from claims as a result of employee negligence.

The ladders with the platform attached are on brackets we used to call “ladder Cripples”..... in the Uk

Maybe Minnesota doesn't have health & safety standards,
but I'm sure they have litigious lawyers the first time there's an accident.
