    Hey man, don't usually comment but just wanted to say thanks for the really straight forward and quick guide. Too many people go off on tangents and make it far more complex/longer than it needs to be, you just cut right to it and break down the ins/outs. Cheers!

    Revisiting this would be excellent with the more recent bios revisions having a completely overhauled layout which was seriously needed. I can reliably hit 5.25 GHz on my i9 9900K with my Z390 Aorus Xtreme.

  • @shodancat1000
    @shodancat1000 5 лет назад +22

    lol, why would you turn off all the power saving states (C3, C6/C7, etc)? You're literally just sucking down power and generating heat for no reason if you're just browsing, idling, whatever.

    • @tweaktown
      @tweaktown  5 лет назад +11

      While it is true that disabling these increases idle power consumption, it's not as big a difference as you might think. Most of the power used comes from current, and for power consumption to go up, work needs to be done, which in turn increases current. If a unit inside the CPU, like an ALU or AVX unit isn't working, current is less. At idle or little work, the current is less, which means the power is less. Some people run their OCes 24/7 because they tend to be able to get slightly better or more stable overclocks, others like lower idle power consumption, that's why we cover both ways in the video. -Steve

Let the program figure out the highest over clock. It will reboot a few times and find the best oc for your ram cpu and motherboard plus cooling. I highly recommend it. • @maggot2duhmax
      @maggot2duhmax 5 лет назад

      This is likely due to the Vcore loadline calibration you are using. If you are using Turbo option (as in the video), it tends to push past the set Vcore. Put it at lower setting to keep Vcore around the Vcore you set. Note that a higher setting will prevent Vcore from drooping too low and increase stability. Most people seem to be using the turbo (also called LLC 5) option.

    • @Grimgo
      @Grimgo 5 лет назад

      I know your comment is 4months old already but here is my take anyways. For 8700k you can not go as high with average CPU. Default thermal paste is very bad between heatspreader and core. Most of overclockers like me delid the CPUs and replace it with liquid metal. With non delid 8700k I would start experimenting overlocks from 4800Ghz with around 1.30v and test the CPU stability with Prime 95 without AVX commands. You can google "Prime95 version without avx" or modify setting files to turn it off.
      I got lucky with my 8700k. It's able to push 5.2Ghz stable with 1.335vcore. With that high vcore the temps are getting aroung 80C with my 280mm AIO cooler (low rpm Vardar fans). I'm currently running @5Ghz with only 60C gaming temps and fans around 800rpm for CPU.

      with a delid processor.. do you use cooling? I mean the lid is now gone so therse nothing for the heat sink to stick to with the paste.. or is that what you mean when you say you put mx4 on the die.. is that what is under the lid? a die?

    • @avao7263
      @avao7263 5 лет назад +1

      @@vertigo6982 your comment is a bit old but for the sake of other people who don't know, yes a delided chip still required cooling. Deliding a chip is removing the lid, cleaning the crappy Intel thermal paste off the die and replacing it with a high quality liquid metal or other such thermal paste then putting the lid back on the chip.

    • @vertigo6982
      @vertigo6982 5 лет назад

      @@avao7263 ohhhh I never knew that they put the lid back on. Is there a big difference if you delid it? Like is it worth the trouble? Is it easy to screw up?
      P.S. Im not anal about people replying to old comments/threads.. i think people are assholes who point out to other people who reply to old threads/comments that its so and so old... I never understood why time mattered? Most subjects are still very relevant today than it was ten years ago.. and those old posts helped me greatly in my years.. Why am I saying all this.. because I want people to stop pointing out age of comments and threads because most of the time those threads are still valuable sources of information. Besides that.. this comment is only 4 months old which isnt old at all.
      With that said.. thank you for taking the time to reply to this comment. See.. months went by and I still didnt learn what the delidding process was till you responded which is why its a good thing to reply to old posts. Like you mentioned, theres always someone else who needs this info. Thanks again.
