The thing I’ve always liked about “Honey” is that he never once described what she looked like. It was irrelevant. He described WHO she was and WHAT she was on the inside. The first few times I heard it I felt that I knew her to, and in a sense missed her to. Wonderful song.
A beautiful composition by the creation of God, God created also the music, see there are already melody, rhythm and the harmony we only composed it. That's why composition is the right term not creation where God who created it all.
As to the ending of this song, it ends the same way the song begins. The impression I get is the song goes on forever in this loop, at least for the person who lost Honey. A loss they will never get over.
This is such a beautiful song, sooutrageous. Bobby Goldsboro had quite a few great songs. It’s a sad song, and a very sad day today around the world. The Queen is gone. 😥
Dad used to whistle this around the house, annoyed us kids lol. Now that he is gone some 20 years, and my brother gone 2 years, [I am the last one left of the original family. INow wish I could hear dad whistle this again...yes this song went over the top when the choir comes in, oh boy! If we all just cry over the tree, while listening to this, it will grow even more!😂
Bobby Goldsboro and Glen Campbell, were my mother's favorite singers, always enjoy when I come across someone reacting to their songs...RIP Mom. I have your old albums, and have been listening to them.
the ending was where it started.... cyclical, beautiful, rememberances.. from beginning to end and over and over, like that tree, has her soul in iit, and memories I............. I have to shut uupp now.... been looking for this song since i was 8.
Bobby Goldsboro was from my hometown of Dothan, Alabama. My father and uncle knew him. I went to high school with his nephew who had the same last name was a really good dude.
I am fifry now, remember this song since so young and learning about death, in a sad sad song.... but love how it starts and ends, is all a cycle.... forever, my friends.
Bobby was very popular in the 60’s & 70’s ! This song always brings a tear 😢 I also love ‘Watching Scotty Grow’ Thanks for reacting to this sad, beautiful song 🎶❤️🩹
This song I remember when I was a kid. I planted a tree 27 years ago that everyone laughed at. Now my tree towers the house. I don't know how much time I have left. Hopefully it Will be there for many years.
Harri, I lost my wife to cancer 2 years ago today. I've been totally in control all day, but now I'm crying, but that's okay. It has reminded me how much we loved each other. It's so special to remember what we had. Thank you for reacting to this song. I remember when it was released.
Deeply sorry for your irretrievably loss, Gary. I managed to restrain my tears somehow while the song was playing, but your *in memoriam* very nearly opened the floodgates. We all suffer deep losses and grief in the course of our lives. Knowing that never makes it easier for our own or in recognizing like impacts on the lives of others. All the best of what remains to you and yours. 💔😢 🖖😘🎶💕💃🕊 Siblings in song.
Oh, this song. The first album my grandmother ever bought my grandfather was this song. We lost her in 2016, and then him in 2018. She was his Honey. This song is incredibly special to my family. I'm actually getting the lyric "And Honey, I miss you" tattooed early next year in memory of them.
If you've lost a loved one, this isn't over sentimental...it hits home. I lost my wife in 2019, and I dreamt I was on a stage singing this to her, and I hadn't heard this song in decades.
This song was the largest selling record in 1968. It was number 1 for 5 weeks. Such an emotional song, with such great orchestral backing and the backup vocals sounding like an angelic choir. As the world mourns the passing of Queen Elizabeth, this song lends to our emotional state tonight. Deep sympathy to Great Britain and the Royal Family on the world's great loss. 😥💔🌹🇨🇦 Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and sooutrageous. A great memory. Sad Cheers from Canada. 😥🇨🇦
Dear Harri I am in my over 60 from wales uk . This song takes me back to the many people that have died especially the murder of my family . that was 24 and she was tourtured to death, her killer after severing 15 in prison. he is now free. i wish him a good life if you seek revenge. dig two graves. we must accept that life is difficult . BUT NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS. We as people around the world must love each other. PEACE TO THE WORLD. THANK you usa my love to you from wales, uk. This song is excellent
Thanks for doing this. Goldsboro had a number of good ones in late 60's early 70's. Watching Scotty Grow, Summer the First Time, Little Things (That You Do), a few more. His Greatest Hits Album was pretty good back in those days.
When I was a wee boy about 9 or 10 my father bought a player organ. Like the player piano you could buy scrolls of popular songs and the organ would play itself. One of the songs purchased was Honey. As the scroll passed over the air inlets the words would scroll by in the margins so this is one of the first songs I knew by heart. It wasn't until years later I actually heard Bobby sing it and was amazed because we have almost identical voices.
I've read that this song was recorded in two takes. This was the second, but the first take was reportedly just as good... they only did two because nobody could believe they nailed it in one take.
I remember clearly the first time I heard this song in the 60s. I was 5 years old and sweeping the kitchen floor and it came on the radio. I sat down and just cried. It has always brought tears to my eyes. Bobby was a teen Idol. I think I remember him on an episode of The Monkees.
This song has always been beautiful and thought provoking. Why do people feel entitled to pass judgement on the effects of grief in others lives? Calling someone overly sentimental when they are grief stricken over losing a person who was a huge part of their life, is just cruel. Grief is a long process with a lot of stages to get through, can't we at least try to acknowledge that each of us has to deal with things in our own way and that always takes as long as it takes. If we don't deal with big issues or even small ones in a healthy way, it can have a big impact on our whole lives, also physical and mental well being. We can be sad over the unnecessary death of a random animal and cry for a while over the loss of a special pet, how much more so over our human loved ones, all this is completely normal and needed. Adults have the god-given right to make choices for ourselves, to make sure our choices do not make things too horrendous for others, and then live with the consequences of our choices, words and actions. If we expect our choices to be respected, we need to start reciprocating. Life is already hard enough, do we really want to make ourselves responsible, for making a mess of someone else's life?
Your reactions are always great Harri 👍🏻🥰‼️ Funny 🤔 thing about this song. Some reacters haven’t gotten that she died. One guy was even more interested in the music and background vocals. It’s great that you got it before it even tells about the Angels coming to get Honey. Makes me tear up every time 😢. It reminds me of when my mom died in 1980. My sister and I stood by her hospital bed with a Priest and sadly watched as her breath slowly dissipated until it stopped. I could well imagine Angels coming down and lifting her Spirit up to Heaven 🙏🏻😇. I saw him in Arizona in the mid 1970s. He was great 👏🏻🥰‼️ Another great song by him is “With Pen in Hand”. And I hope you’ll react to it. I think you’ll like it.
I give you a ton of props for doing a reaction for this song. Along with this song , there are others that I call " Real Life " Lessons ; these are - " Reality " before the so called " Reality shows ".
Bobby Goldsboro is an American pop & country singer-songwriter from the 60's-70's. "Honey" was his biggest hit but he had a lot of great songs including "See The Funny Little Clown", "Summer (The First Time)", "It's Too Late", "Little Things", "Too Many People", "With Pen In Hand", "Hello Summertime", "Watching Scotty Grow" etc. Some of his songs were performed by other artists such as Brenda Lee, Dolly Parton, John Denver.
Thanks a lot! So sad song and so haunting melody . Each time I'm listening to this gem, too hard to hold back my tears. For me it's one of the most poignant songs ever. The backing angelic voice gives even more intensity to the lyrics and to the melancholic atmosphere. And of course the huge impressive Bobby's ton of voice suits at best the theme evoked.
I think sappy or saccharine is the word you were searching for, but its a song I heard repeatedly on the AM radio in my childhood, so good to hear it again.
I am crying watching this video and remarkably think of the passing of Queen Elizabeth. We are all dumb and smart aren’t we. Some get offended at this line in the song. They are not realistic!!!! Jerks. Every part of this song reminds me of ME Of Him Of Dad Of Her Of being in love Of mom Of a friend and yes, Of the human being. Yes Harri the song is indeed haunting and so appropriate it seems for today. Now I need tissues
Harri I still recall this song from when I was young. I think it was in top ten radio charts. The part where the ""Angels came"" I always thought should be more towards the end..If you watch a more recent live version of Bobby Goldsboro, singing this song its like he hasnt aged a year! Where did I see him Oh on Ray Stevenson show live...Very much like ""Taco"" singing Puttin on the Ritz, Taco still sounds the same but age is apparent. Nice reaction btw
Harri, I’m so happy that you reacted to this beautiful song. My mama passed away in March 2018. I moved in to take care of my daddy, who colon cancer that metastasized to his liver and lungs. I found out on tye ride to chemo one day that this was my daddy’s song for my mama. I had no idea!! He always called her HONEY! Five months after my mama died, my daddy passed away. We played this song at his funeral. Thank you! LadyGator1983🐊🐊🐊
Always makes me tearful, especially the part where she was alone when she died. Now you should listen to "Rocky", by Dickey Lee. Another one of the sentimental "dying young" tearjerkers of the era...only more so! 😭
So you,ve heard it before because of your comment. It could just have been a break up. I have heard this song many times. It's beautiful. Good reaction
I originally thought it was John Denver, was looking for years... heard first when i was eight... and tears.... am feeling this so badly now, about lost love... life...
He used to have his own show years ago. But if you want to hear a really good version of this check out Joe Tex. Great soul singer. Good reaction. My wife & I always like watching you. You seem like a good guy.
Some may think this song is corny and overly-emotional, but anyone who has known love understands that true love is often goofy and sappy. It's these things that make the love of your life personal.
When this came out the only problem was it was on top 40 stations so it wasn't played with other theme music. I would hear Chuck Berry's My Dingle a ling followed by Honey.
Most present-day music critics despise the song, in part because if you "read between the lines," you may get the feeling the narrator emotionally abused Honey (pretending to be mad after the car wreck, laughing when she falls, not being with her when she suddenly dies, etc.), possibly to the point of her committing suicide, & is thus on a guilt trip. That said, Bobby Russell, the componser, claimed he was inspired by the sight of a young tree growing in a yard-the image that opens & closes the song-& not by a specific relationship that ended tragically.
I can't listen to this all the way through. I've always gotten too brokenhearted. And this from a diehard Sex Pistols fan, and tough-ass punk rocker. 😭😭
Goldsboro actually wrote "Summer," & while it's very different from "Honey," its coda, like that of the more famous song, is a reprise of the opening lines.
Man I'm throwing you a bone here. Haven't recommended this old classic to anyone yet. The song is called "Mr. Jones" by a guy named Big Al Downing. Trust me on this one.
People who stay at home very often un tye States often tries to play the guitar for this song Honey and the 5th Dimension song Aquariusl one looks to the back and the other looks to the future in The Age Of Aquarius. This is like what you said in a video where people in the bars (in the States?) Do not want to go back home because they do not see a past and future in that home (like my brother who I suspect does not see a past in our home). Generally baby boomers and so are Cancer Ascendant people are sentimental people so it hurts deeply whe their loved ones pass away. Their love also never wavers and certain yogas like Venus conjunct Rahu in the 1st house, all throughout their lives whether their loved ones are still living or not, their love for them never wavers one bit. Cancsr represents the group of crabs in the basket, where if anyone tries to reach for the heights, the other crabs would pull him down Meryl Streep is an exception, bu then imagine what a huge sacrifice she made juggling between family and work. She was very protective of her family. I was like a white tiger (1962 is a white tiger which has the water element) trying to bring my father to eat at the safest and enjoyable (for him) hawker centre. Like a mother carrying a cub. The white tiger lives in the mountains where food is xcarce (my father eats only certain kinds of food because he is a Straits born Chinese). I am God has in a way worked out the karma for me by making me understand Vedic culture, and especially Vedic Astrology in depth. I also want to thank Shubham Alock for his incessant guide of Vedic Astrology in RUclips.
Spot On! When he says "angels" and the angels appear vocally. Genius! Just Genius!
Gives me beautiful chills too.
Ahhh, now I’m crying 😭 I remember hearing this song as a kid… and Honey I miss you ….😞
Haven't heard Honey in years and still tears came. Great song by a great artist.

He buried her underneath that fucking tree, cos he was sick of her shit.
As to the ending of this song, it ends the same way the song begins. The impression I get is the song goes on forever in this loop, at least for the person who lost Honey. A loss they will never get over.
The line which always gets me is "Now my life's an empty stage where Honey lived and Honey played and love grew up". The emotion conveyed is powerful.

Bobby was a session musician and was in Roy Orbinsons backup band before he struck out on his own.
It’s a beautiful song and I cry every time I hear it.

This song would be very hard for someone who has lost their spouse in the recent years. The story telling was pleasing enough.
My mother’s favorite song.
Every time I hear it, I miss her so.
It's amazing that after all these years this is one of those songs I can't listen to without crying

I love the way you articulate. It helps me see what I would not otherwise. You do a wonderful job with all the music you share.
Still one of the saddest songs ever. Brings tears every time. And Bobby sings it like no other could.

Little things was my alltime favorite Bobby Goldsborough song.
I like Bobby Goldsboro's music. This song gets sad but I suggest you listen to more of his work. I'm thinking: Summer, The First Time.

I'm with Cynthia on this one. Such a beautiful song of love, on this sad day around the world missing Queen Elizabeth II. My prayers to the family🙏

Of being in love
Of mom
Of a friend and yes,
Of the human being.
Yes Harri the song is indeed haunting and so appropriate it seems for today.

I was just thinking of this song the other day. Anyone who is a parent can relate to his song "Watching Scottie Grow".
Stopped by for great song👍

You’re right. It’s true for everyone.
It is a beautiful song from 1968.
I really love this song, but it’s hard to listen to. My mother loved this song so really reminds me of her and I always cry when I hear it❤️
Great reaction Harri 👍
Always makes me tearful, especially the part where she was alone when she died. Now you should listen to "Rocky", by Dickey Lee. Another one of the sentimental "dying young" tearjerkers of the era...only more so! 😭
So you,ve heard it before because of your comment. It could just have been a break up.
I have heard this song many times. It's beautiful. Good reaction
This was the first album I bought, with my own money, as a teenager.
This song was my jam. I don’t know what came first but Roger Miller’s little green apples has a similar vibe.
I just looked it up, both songs written by the same dude, Bobby Russell
Such a Sooooutrageous request! Great reaction Harri!
The best ❤️
You so got it!
Huge hit for him!!
I originally thought it was John Denver, was looking for years... heard first when i was eight... and tears.... am feeling this so badly now, about lost love... life...
I lost my sister and this song reminds me of her
BG did a great song called Autumn of my Life which runs this a close second imho
He used to have his own show years ago. But if you want to hear a really good version of this check out Joe Tex. Great soul singer. Good reaction. My wife & I always like watching you. You seem like a good guy.
When I heard this at a teen it was ok but now as an old man it kills me bringing up the loss of so many loved ones 😢
Dang....you are a good guy.
Some may think this song is corny and overly-emotional, but anyone who has known love understands that true love is often goofy and sappy. It's these things that make the love of your life personal.
Tears Tears Tears
It ends just like it started because grief lasts forever.
This song is so hard right now...my nephew just lost his wife to cancer at a young age, leaving him with 3 young kids to raise.
You should check out is other hit. Summer the first time. Fabulous!
Wow I haven't heard this in a good minute
you have to hear muddy mississippi line the horns are great
This is for you Lupe.Tony
Watch the live version!
This song cuts me to the quick
Beautiful but sad...
I have always loved this song. Will you please react to Monsters by James Blunt ( the original video )?
For a humorous counterpoint, look up the Austin Lounge Lizards version of this song
Listen to "Hello In There" by John Prine. You will really enjoy
btw next bobby song you need to listen to is Funny Little Clown
Have you done Alone again
Please listen to David Phelps sing No more Nights, this man can hit some of the highest notes. Like your channel first time listening.
Since you like this Harri, you would like Bobby Goldsboro "With Pen in Hand"
I can't listen to this all the way through. I've always gotten too brokenhearted.
And this from a diehard Sex Pistols fan, and tough-ass punk rocker.
😭😭
Better song.. Summer (the first time). About youthful coming of age. This song is summer to me.
Goldsboro actually wrote "Summer," & while it's very different from "Honey," its coda, like that of the more famous song, is a reprise of the opening lines.
No, that's the entire song.
Man I'm throwing you a bone here. Haven't recommended this old classic to anyone yet. The song is called "Mr. Jones" by a guy named Big Al Downing. Trust me on this one.
One of the most mawkish songs ever written
The song that people love to hate......
Exactly.
Not too sappy for me,I like sappy love songs
