Fun fact for the lads that keep talking about "the guys in Gorillaz": It's just Damon Albarn from Blur with guest vocalists. The second person behind Gorillaz is a graphical artist and director. More of their timeless classics: 19-2000 DARE Stylo No particular order, they're all good!
BTW: Gorillaz Lore Factoid the explanation for all the different rappers is they are all the spirits of Russell's friends who possessed him when he witnessed them get killed in a drive by. When ever he lays down a sick enough beat the Ghosts come out and flow.
According to Wikipedia: The discography of British virtual band Gorillaz consists of seven studio albums, three compilation albums, eleven extended plays, one remix album, and forty-one singles.
There is a sister song to this called El Mañana. The official video has been taken down for some time though you might still find it on another person's channel. Damon Albarn was the lead singer to Blur (does a lot of the music alongside a large amount of other creators) and his cocreator (does the artwork) is Jamie Hewlett. Recently credit has also been given to Remi Kabaka Jr. (voices Russel the drummer) as he became a bigger influence on the project when the album Humanz was created. There is an entire lore around these characters and if interested whether on the channel or in your own time Found Flix has done a deep dive into the lore.
Gorillaz started out as Damon Albarn from Blur, Jamie Hewlett is the artist who created the characters (also co-creator of Tank Girl), Dan the Automator as the producer, and Del rapping. Demon Days was produced by Danger Mouse and had different guest rappers. So really the main people of the "band" are Damon and Jamie. Since then Damon has done all or half of the producing from album to album. Jamie has been continuing the lore of Gorillaz and aging them from album to album.
Del and Dan were working on Deltron 3030 at the time (something that needs to be reacted to on this channel!) while Dan was also working on Gorillaz. Del had been interested in the concept and the artwork since he was a big fan of Hewlett's work, but was busy with 3030 and less interested in the reality of the Gorillaz project at the time he was supposed to be doing stuff with them. Del recorded some lines for a few different songs and didnt even know "Clint Eastwood" was a big single until his phone was blowing up about it. Gorillaz moved in a different direction after the first album, including shutting down the original garage website. This song had members of De La Soul. In a way, its kind of like Ozomatli that had Chali2NA for its first album and then moved to multiple guest lyricists after that. IMO the best Gorillaz remix album was Spacemonkeys vs Gorillaz 'Laika Come Home' for some really deep dub remixing.
There is a GREAT heavy metal cover of this song done by Frog Leap Studios!! It's a fun video of this guy walking through a mall playing a guitar while he's wearing a BUNNY 🐰 suit!!!
This song is from their second album Demon Dayz. Their music videos tell the story of Gorillaz especially from the first to third album. The El Manana video directly follows this.
I would highly recommend El Mañana next, It follows up after this music video and shows you exactly what happens after the helicopters fly after the windmill it’s a great track.
Technically Blur and Oasis came from the 3rd wave of British Invasion . First of course was in the 60s with the Beatles, Stones, Who, The Kinks, and the Animals. The second one came out in the early 80s around the time MTV was coming out. Think like Culture Club, Duran Duran, Eurythmics and Wham, more along the line of new wave. 3rd wave would be more alternative rock based like Blur, Oasis and Radiohead.
It's very much a drugs - lifestyle choice song. Look at the imagery. A post apocalyptic world with what looks like a crack den high up a huge chimney stack, frequented by a lot of smashed, dodgy looking people who have been partying for eternity stuck in this place. And the singer with missing eyes and teeth knows he wants out but where is out? Then the clear blue sky, sunshine and the windmill represent a different life choice - clean, pure and fresh. But the kid with no teeth in the highrise crack den can't find it. It's elusive and dreamlike. The saddest frame is the one where he is looking through the dirty window at something he can't find or escape to. And when he's singing "Feel good", it's not a description of how he's feeling - we only have to look at him to see that - he's asking a question perhaps to himself; " Feel good??"
What a band 🙌🙌 Damon albarn is just a phenom, you should check out his original band BLUR. Also Check it BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE AND EVIL SCARECROW you guys rock 🤟🤟
I liked your reaction. 3D the lead singer is Damon Albarn from Blur. This is one of my favourite Gorillaz track/videos!! I'd love to see you react to ' Dare'. Ft. Sean Ryder as guest vocalist. That's my favourite!! 👍😋😁
They were Blur before, Daman was the leader and created Gorillaz when they separated. And yes, the guests on this crazy track are De La Soul. Thanks for your reaction. To me, it's hip-hop. Love from France 🇫🇷😘
Not all Gorillaz song have rappers featured, but from the same album "Dirty Harry", "November Has Come" or "All Alone" all have a rapper featured and are worth checking out. All Alone would probably be the most challenging to identify the rapper.
Saturnz Barz, Stylo, Dare, Hollywood, 19-2000 there are a bunch of great songs from the Gorillaz. I would classify their first few albums as alternative Soul, to the later ones becoming alternative jazz
The only two songs that i'm aware of that "Del tha Funky Homosapian" rapped on were in the original album, Clint Eastwood & Rock Da House respectively. Otherwise it's generally a different collaborator each track.
Everyone is saying "DARE" which is from the second album this song was on, and it's great! But I'd recommend "Dirty Hairy" from the Demon Dayz album or "Rock the House" which has the same rapper from "Clint Eastwood."
Guys, you have to react to Rhinestone Eyes by Gorillaz. It is crazy good. Do the lyrics as well, there is so much more to this band. Great reaction. All the best
This whole album is 🔥 for real. 2 chill songs, and 2 of my favs are Kids With Guns, and El Manana. Imo, the best rappin is on Dirty Harry. What he raps about is some truth, if you know what he's rappin bout. And of course Dare is fire as well.
I'm sure someone has already mentioned this but the videos from the songs on that album Plastic Beach, kind of go together to tell a story. You guys gotta watch "Stylo" and then "On Melancholy Hill."
Check the music videos for both “Saturnz Barz” and “Tranz” by the Gorillaz. You’ll see Ace from Powerpuff Girls temporarily replace Murdoc on Bass on the Tranz music video and basically for the entire album that Tranz is on because Murdoc gets arrested before that album’s release but then returns in the following album, I look forward to seeing your reactions to these songs!
"If you....then...you...then you...you're doing the...uhh...you..." Awesome! I have been there. Mostly when playing Catchphrase. Its like verbally scratching all around the itch but you aren't allowed to scratch the itch itself. Soo frustrating. But so, so funny watching it happen to someone else!
Yeah, Gorillaz is kinda like a alt-pop-rap version of NIN, in that it's mostly the one guy. They have loads of albums and guest stars, but I think if you run through Plastic Beach from top to bottom you'd have a good time. Or at least do Double Bass, Stylo, Superfast Jellyfish and Fire Coming Out Of The Monkeys Head.
Yall should check out when Gorrilaz played this on Colbert. De la soul for som reason wasnt there and Colbert himself did their part, hes did them proud.
Damon Albarn of Blur is the only permanent musical member of the group. Jamie Hewlett does the animation. Think of Gorillaz as kind of a rotating musical collective of whoever Albarn wants to work with. When they tour they show large screen animated projections with the band playing in shadow underneath. Some of the guest musicians and rappers go with them depending on who is available. There really isn’t say a band member behind each character.
They have one on their D-Sides album called Hong Kong that I would seriously suggest checking out, it's one of Gorillaz best songs (and I will never understand why it did not make the Demon Days album).
Gorillaz latest album is up there with there best, very "english" with there colabs this time but check out Momentary bliss for a mix of rap, ska and gorillaz beats ;)
Del the Funky Homosapien and Dan the Automator were working on Deltron 3030 at the time (something that needs to be reacted to on this channel!) while Dan was also working on the first Gorillaz album. Looks like the question has been answered many times already, but yeah, Damon Albarn from Blur. My favourite Gorillaz song is “19-2000”. Other good ones to check out are “Dare”, “Dirty Harry” and “Stylo” Enjoy 👍🏻
I covered this song in my karaoke app. 😆I did terrible! But hey, I tried. It was fun. Great song! And I concur with all the folks suggesting “Dare” next.
Alright, now check out the Leo Moracchioli heavy metal cover of this song. Many of his covers become my new favorite version of that song, including Feel Good, Inc.
It's a mix of rock n roll and hip hop. Some gorillaz songs are softer rock some are harder but I haven't heard one that's metal, would like to now haha.
"3-D" "Is that Noodle" why is 2D so forgettable 😭🤚 (joking, of course) And the whole point is that the "official" members are the cartoon characters- they have so much lore behind them it's insane. I suggest Pac-Man, Valley of the Pagans, DARE, Rock The House, and Superfast Jellyfish :)
Shoeshine would be great as a next one. They are still active and during initial Covid shutdown, the lead singer did a special video on Instagram showing him singing live from his apt and like zoom meeting linked with 2D (I believe). The song was called Aries. It was fantastic 😍. So, yes, still going strong. So glad you are reacting to them.
i am tryna figure out how to be more involved, as in patreon and all. im new to all this. i like the trivia n such u goes put out there. i only see maybe a few reaction pages that are actually genuine anymore. seeing the emotions from hearing songs n for the first time brings back so many great memories and feelings. makes us old folk appreciate the fact that there is so many people out there that have never discovered these greats. i'd love to see someone get into the INDUSTRIAL METAL. it is all about the message. NIN was formed from this band. trent reznor was a roadie for them for a year. watched and learned, and after many firecrackers was thrown at Trent, he formed NIN.
Would love to see you guys react to Rhinestone Eyes from Plastic Beach. Feel Good Inc is off of their second album, Demon Days, which is regarded as their best album. I have a bunch of songs I would love to see you guys get around to checking out. Aries, Pac-Man, Humility, Fireflies, El Manana, Dirty Harry, and Stylo to name a few

Great review! To me “DARE” was one of their best songs. I totally forgot I was following them on Spotify.
If you like DARE, you should check out the Junior Sanchez remix. It's IMPOSSIBLE not to dance around when listening to it.
DARE is a such a sick track, and with a total mindfuck video!

It was Del the Funkee Homosapien on the First album, Snoop Dogg was all over the 3rd album.
Its so good, especially to have the legendary De La Soul rapping their ass off on this track...
