BTW: Gorillaz Lore Factoid the explanation for all the different rappers is they are all the spirits of Russell's friends who possessed him when he witnessed them get killed in a drive by. When ever he lays down a sick enough beat the Ghosts come out and flow.

If you like DARE, you should check out the Junior Sanchez remix. It's IMPOSSIBLE not to dance around when listening to it.

Damon Albarn is a true genius
It was Del the Funkee Homosapien on the First album, Snoop Dogg was all over the 3rd album.
There is a sister song to this called El Mañana. The official video has been taken down for some time though you might still find it on another person's channel.
Damon Albarn was the lead singer to Blur (does a lot of the music alongside a large amount of other creators) and his cocreator (does the artwork) is Jamie Hewlett. Recently credit has also been given to Remi Kabaka Jr. (voices Russel the drummer) as he became a bigger influence on the project when the album Humanz was created.
There is an entire lore around these characters and if interested whether on the channel or in your own time Found Flix has done a deep dive into the lore.

Gorillaz started out as Damon Albarn from Blur, Jamie Hewlett is the artist who created the characters (also co-creator of Tank Girl), Dan the Automator as the producer, and Del rapping. Demon Days was produced by Danger Mouse and had different guest rappers. So really the main people of the "band" are Damon and Jamie. Since then Damon has done all or half of the producing from album to album. Jamie has been continuing the lore of Gorillaz and aging them from album to album.
Del and Dan were working on Deltron 3030 at the time (something that needs to be reacted to on this channel!) while Dan was also working on Gorillaz. Del had been interested in the concept and the artwork since he was a big fan of Hewlett's work, but was busy with 3030 and less interested in the reality of the Gorillaz project at the time he was supposed to be doing stuff with them. Del recorded some lines for a few different songs and didnt even know "Clint Eastwood" was a big single until his phone was blowing up about it. Gorillaz moved in a different direction after the first album, including shutting down the original garage website. This song had members of De La Soul. In a way, its kind of like Ozomatli that had Chali2NA for its first album and then moved to multiple guest lyricists after that. IMO the best Gorillaz remix album was Spacemonkeys vs Gorillaz 'Laika Come Home' for some really deep dub remixing.
There is a GREAT heavy metal cover of this song done by Frog Leap Studios!! It's a fun video of this guy walking through a mall playing a guitar while he's wearing a BUNNY 🐰 suit!!!

This song is from their second album Demon Dayz. Their music videos tell the story of Gorillaz especially from the first to third album.
The El Manana video directly follows this.

Technically Blur and Oasis came from the 3rd wave of British Invasion . First of course was in the 60s with the Beatles, Stones, Who, The Kinks,and the Animals. The second one came out in the early 80s around the time MTV was coming out. Think like Culture Club, Duran Duran, Eurythmics and Wham, more along the line of new wave. 3rd wave would be more alternative rock based like Blur, Oasis and Radiohead.

Always shocked when people don’t know this band. The main vocalist is the vocalist of the popular 90’s band, Blur.

10 albums (not all studio) as of now and damon albarn says he's already got ideas for another one, hasnt taken a break from music since 1989!
This whole album is 🔥 for real. 2 chill songs, and 2 of my favs are Kids With Guns, and El Manana. Imo, the best rappin is on Dirty Harry. What he raps about is some truth, if you know what he's rappin bout. And of course Dare is fire as well.
Everyone is saying "DARE" which is from the second album this song was on, and it's great! But I'd recommend "Dirty Hairy" from the Demon Dayz album or "Rock the House" which has the same rapper from "Clint Eastwood."
When he sings: when the windmilll…..he sounds like Ray Davies of the Kinks.
Not every song...but most. They took advantage of knowing so many guests and friends with talent. Gorillasz is practically a showcase.
The only two songs that i'm aware of that "Del tha Funky Homosapian" rapped on were in the original album, Clint Eastwood & Rock Da House respectively. Otherwise it's generally a different collaborator each track.
Guys, you have to react to Rhinestone Eyes by Gorillaz. It is crazy good. Do the lyrics as well, there is so much more to this band.

I covered this song in my karaoke app. 😆I did terrible! But hey, I tried. It was fun. Great song! And I concur with all the folks suggesting “Dare” next.
It's very much a drugs - lifestyle choice song. Look at the imagery. A post apocalyptic world with what looks like a crack den high up a huge chimney stack, frequented by a lot of smashed, dodgy looking people who have been partying for eternity stuck in this place. And the singer with missing eyes and teeth knows he wants out but where is out?
Then the clear blue sky, sunshine and the windmill represent a different life choice - clean, pure and fresh. But the kid with no teeth in the highrise crack den can't find it. It's elusive and dreamlike. The saddest frame is the one where he is looking through the dirty window at something he can't find or escape to. And when he's singing "Feel good", it's not a description of how he's feeling - we only have to look at him to see that - he's asking a question perhaps to himself; " Feel good??"
Andromeda from their album Humanz is a bop.
Saturnz Barz, Stylo, Dare, Hollywood, 19-2000 there are a bunch of great songs from the Gorillaz. I would classify their first few albums as alternative Soul, to the later ones becoming alternative jazz

It's a mix of rock n roll and hip hop. Some gorillaz songs are softer rock some are harder but I haven't heard one that's metal, would like to now haha.

Not all Gorillaz song have rappers featured, but from the same album "Dirty Harry", "November Has Come" or "All Alone" all have a rapper featured and are worth checking out. All Alone would probably be the most challenging to identify the rapper.

Yeah, Gorillaz is kinda like a alt-pop-rap version of NIN, in that it's mostly the one guy. They have loads of albums and guest stars, but I think if you run through Plastic Beach from top to bottom you'd have a good time.
Or at least do Double Bass, Stylo, Superfast Jellyfish and Fire Coming Out Of The Monkeys Head.

Shoeshine would be great as a next one. They are still active and during initial Covid shutdown, the lead singer did a special video on Instagram showing him singing live from his apt and like zoom meeting linked with 2D (I believe). The song was called Aries. It was fantastic 😍. So, yes, still going strong. So glad you are reacting to them.

The Gorillaz only ever had two actual members, Daman Albarn, the musician, who was the singer from Blur, and the artist who made the characters, and also made Tank Girl. Anybody else is a session musician, touring musician, or guest. Most Gorillaz songs don't have a rapper, or any rapping at all. Clint Eastwood had Del tha Funkee Homosapian, who just came in and did over some mediocre rapping they had at the time for the song. This song was featuring De La Soul. Also, most times Kiss had somebody leave and got somebody new, they would actually have their own makeup design and style.
If I could make some requests for Gorillaz:
- From this same album I'd choose Dirty Harry and a song called November has Come that features none other than MF Doom
- From the album Plastic Beach I would recommend on Melancholy Hill and Superfast Jellyfish
- And from Song Machine, I'd do with Valley of the Pagans and Pac-Man

They have one on their D-Sides album called Hong Kong that I would seriously suggest checking out, it's one of Gorillaz best songs (and I will never understand why it did not make the Demon Days album).
