Clement Clarke Moore (July 15, 1779 - July 10, 1863) was an American writer, scholar and real estate developer. He is best known as author of the iconic Christmas poem "A Visit from St. Nicholas", which first named each of Santa Claus's reindeer.

6 Interesting Facts about Clement Clarke Moore
• Clement wrote this poem for his nine (9) children in 1822.
• He claimed authorship 21 years after the poem was published
anonymously (1844).
• His friend copied and sent it to a newspaper editor without his
permission in 1823.
• After the poem became popular, others tried to claim authorship.
• For 29 years he was a professor of Greek and Hebrew at a seminary in
New York.
• He graduated first in his class from Columbia College in 1798.
