First the double swing arm for the Panigale, now the valve spring in this new V2, the next step is a 4 inline engine? @Ducati are you looking for average customers and killing the purism of the brand?
They are looking for larger margins, the desmo is more expensive to build and to maintain. It makes sense since alas the average biker nowadays can't tell the difference between a desmo or spring valves engine.
Desmos aren't that difficult to service. I even used to do my Pantah on the pavement. But that was when Ducati had good distributors who taught us how to do it - Oxford Motorcycles!

I mean, it makes sense for ducati to move in this direction since the average biker can't tell the difference between desmo and spring valve system. The 937cc testastretta engine was reliable, it's been there for more than 10 years without major complaints. People are complaining because is another piece of heritage going away (after the dry clutch and the trellis frame), and that's not a rational thing, is more about personal affection to history. Is it rational/sensitive to buy a bike? Bike buyers are irrational. And as someone has said, this looks like a standard V twin. Ducati risks to lose what keeps them from the rest. I really don't care about desmo in a normal bike. I would be mad if panigale v4 would be on my short list and that would come with spring valves but that's not my case. Mulitstrada is a beautiful and powerful bike with 60000km valve check period, so long that I would sell the bike before even looking at valves. 0 regrets.
Yeah ,kinda sad in a historic sense, but my understanding is that Desmo for road-going sportbikes became less and less of a benefit as valve spring technology improved - to the point where it's no advantage. If it's expensive to put on bikes then that's a negative with no positives. My SS 939 has desmo and they've got the adjustment interval down to 18,000 miles however so it's not like in the old days. The timing chain replacing the belts is a good idea though as the chains probably do not need replaced, while the belts are every five years regardless of mileage.
