This movie and the 1995 original are both classics to this day I am a Mortal Kombat fan to this Day the remake was so so you have to admit the 1995 version is good to this day and annihilation I enjoyed saw the 1997 film back in theaters with my dad and my family we all had a blast I know a lot of others have great memories like me.
I don't understand why people talk so badly about this movie, it has the best fights in a mortal kombat movie, even better than the first and the reboot, it's more faithful to the characters besides the fact that almost all of them appear in a single movie. I know the special effects and some dialogue are bad but damn it's a movie based on a fighting game! And it's actually not bad as people say

This was a nod to the first movie, in case you missed it.
When Johnny fights scorpion, scorpion performs that front flip kick on Johnny.
In this movie, it was a fun Easter egg because you know scorpion is about to do his front flip kick.
But lo and behold, sub zero does the move too!
But of course scorpion still does it better, and for a split second, the audience thought sub zero might get the edge.
And with “suckers!!!!!!” scorpion was never seen again in this movie.
But he did prove just that one time, the combined forces of Sub Zero and Liu Kang were suckers.

@@cowgod1945 Maybe, but it still doesn't make sense. If Sub-Zero doesn't give a shit, why help them in first place? I understand he's not too happy with Shao Khan's designs, so he tried to help Earth warriors, he even mentions it. And remember Liu saves Sub-Zero from falling the cliff, which could set things right between them. Maybe the writers were just concerned with an excessive number of protagonists.
Anyway, the script could just bring him at the end, to a new fight against Scorpion. Same for bring Nightwolf too, in an all-out Earth attack against Khan's minions. I honestly like the movie but the script just doesn't make much sense.
Did Sub-zero leave to fight Sektor, who was not on screen.

I unironically love this movie. People may think I'm joking but I'm dead serious, I LOVE this movie. I think the reason I love it so much is because when I was younger my family didn't have much and there was very few movies we had to watch, So for a while I only watched this movie, Freddy VS Jason, and Killer Klowns from Outer Space. I've pretty much have all 3 of these movies memorized, but still I'm proud to admit I love this movie.
^ This. To me as a ten year-old, it was pretty much satisfaction enough that "they made this cool movie about Mortal Kombat Trilogy." I enjoyed it to the end. Indeed, even back then I was bothered by Shao Kahn's execution of Rain & Jade, Sheeva's quick death, the childish dialogue etc. but the sheer MK-related context of the movie made up for that.

I never watched this film as a kid or even after watching 1995 until a few years ago. This is definitely the best scene in the film for me.

As someone who grew up playing MK on the SNES, this movie is part of my childhood. It's not a good movie I know, but it's still something I can enjoy
I had a SEGA Mega Drive with Mortal Kombat 2, I watched the 1st movie in like 1994 and it was gold. I remember watching the MK-series in the 90s then with all these hot girls.

I miss old movies like this where the actors were legit martial artists who didn’t rely on stunt doubles, CGI, or other modern effects, they were guys with years of martial arts training and it showed in the fight scenes and choreography. Granted this movie makes great use of pulleys, camera angles and sound effects, but the actors movements and skill cannot be doubted.

I'm gonna be honest, Sub Zero's manipulation of water molecules was visually very well done for the time. The fight with Scorpion was awesome IMO...at the beginning I was like "hmmm, it's gonna be better than the previous one"...poor me hahaha

1. Scorpions mask doesn’t look that bad, they tried their best to make it look like the one in MK gold.
2. I think their costumes are made out of some type of foam.
3. While the first movie costumes of the two do look cool, they only changed the mask so they still sorta look like Palette swaps. With this movie, they try to make their costumes a little more unique. Scorpions costume looks like his MK3 costume but with his MK Gold mask, while Sub Zeros costume has a arrow pattern going down it with a more aerodynamic mask. You see where I’m getting at here.

If you slow the clip down to 0.25 and play the clip at 1:05 you can see Scorpions nose come out of his mask when he lifts up subzero.

The special effects may be ridiculous, but the fights were amazing! And this is what made those Mortal Kombat's movie so magic and loved!
Nah the fights were terrible as well. Literally every single shot was so poorly choreographed that you could understand from which point the ropes are holding the actors.

I don't understand why people talk so badly about this movie, it has the best fights in a mortal kombat movie, even better than the first and the reboot, it's more faithful to the characters besides the fact that almost all of them appear in a single movie. I know the special effects and some dialogue are bad but damn it's a movie based on a fighting game! And it's actually not bad as people say!

I w 5 years old when this came out. I loved it so much I'd rewatch it multiple times a day, along with the sequel. I eventually memorized the entire script and would say the dialogue line for line as I was watching it.

Changing scorpion's kunai for something that's alive and in his body is a welcome change. I did love that, and also as a kid thought that was the case in the games
Kuai Liang and Scorpion seriously just showed up in this movie to be neat for five minutes and vanish. This is probably the best fight scene Annihilation had, though Sub-Zero seemed to switch between styling on Scorpion and getting devastated by a few hits at least twice. Regardless, these two actors could fight well, and the choreography and cinematography actually got back to the level of the first film for a while, along with the stacked bridges set.

@@Mulluns fan-theory (because what else are going to do?): Scorpion leaves Kitana off to Kahn/Shinnok in exchange for the location of Quan-Chi in the NetherRealm, and Sub-Zero follows him there and the two of them are in their own side-quest that we never see -- and they sort of have one battle in all the different MK realms.

@@nicholasxjohnson Nah, the CGI looked terrible and a lot of the fights made no sense. Also, only Scorpion and Sub-Zero had a good fight scene. The rest had quick-cuts, fast-edits and a lot of camera movement so you couldn't see anything. Also, Kano was the only likable character and he was the VILLAIN!

Fun Fact: The Ice Bridge that Kuai Liang made wasn't suppose to break in half back then they used Hollow foam to create large props example the bridge but Sub-Zero's actor had knocked the Scorpion actor down so hard it snapped the fragile foam then when Scorpion slides down the broken bridge his facial reaction was real and Ryan Shou's reaction to Scorpion sliding was real as well then Sub-Zero kicking the other half of the ice was Improvised to give it a more Dramatic effect.
This was a very good fight scene
