There is exponentially more training data for 2D images (Entire basis of the current generation of AI is in stolen materials. Stolen writing, stolen art, stolen music) , and yet even 2D images generated by AI aren't good enough for high-quality productions.

It will be a lot harder for VR as it would have to generate two consistent images, the amount of variance in each element of each image would have to be basically imperceptible, not just in the detail of those elements but in their movement through space, an insane challenge really.

The biggest problem with this neural network is brightness and contrast. All objects and characters are too bright and overexposed. Because of this, they shine monstrously and stand out. Same thing with reflections. There are too many of them everywhere.
AI reference conversion is probably the best way to find out how to improve the graphics for the most realistic experience. It's like reference images but applied to your sketch in real time.

At some point we will be able to use AI to create a virual world that we can access via some brain inplant device (probably built by Musk Enterprises), where we wont know reality from fiction. I dont mind laying in a bed made of glass, fed through a tube, covered in red liquid, having my muscles waste away, as I want to be the James Bond of the virual world.
