I'm in disbelief that he kicked the winning drop goal on his weaker foot. Unbelievable confidence.

I am a Springbok supporter and in my humble opinion, this was the greatest of them all. And he didnt have it easy. He is a champion!!!

What a player he was, nobody could defend against that kind of kicking ability.

That 03 final drop goal will be played for the next 100 years.

The only player that would played in all test playing rugby teams-would have loved it to see this genius as a Springbok 10.

My dad, a rugby coach, always said if you can get points on the board then do so. If you get a penalty and your kicker can make it, take it. Same with drop goals.

Did he really have a "weak" foot? Sensational kicking. I don't think there'll ever be this type of kicking prowess again. Look at effort number 7..how absolutely brilliant is that?

I don’t think he did have a weak foot. Only a preferred foot

He would be the GOAT without years and years of injuries. If there was one game for all the marbles, give me Wilkinson over Carter. One game. All the marbles.

Not many would agree with you on that one, but yes, I’d probably lean that way myself - especially behind that fearsome English pack (or an equivalent Springbok one). DC is custom-made for NZ-style running rugby, but Wilko’s who you need if the game’s tight and you need points to come from seemingly nowhere.

It was the whole set up, and the pass under pressure to enable Jonny to drop that goal -- a team play.

    2003年の決勝戦はヤバかった
    改めて見たけど10mラインからドロップゴールは何度見てても信じられん。
    バスケットでセンターラインから3Pシュートを当然のように決めるようなもんやん…

He was good but as in football the modern ball is a lot easier to play with. To me Rob Andrew was Jonny’s equal and in some ways better.

Rob Andrew couldn't tackle like Jonny and didn't pose the same threat running with the ball imho. Ps. Met Rob Andrew and played cricket against him, very nice Guy!

    • @lestmak
      @lestmak 3 года назад

@@uknsaunders Agree. I was really referring to his kicking. Defensively, Jonny was a class above. We do have to remember though that Rob Andrew started off in the amateur era of rugby and therefore very different in psychology. All obviously changed much later!

Saw Rob play many times and he would never shy away from the physical stuff.
Where he excelled was positional kicking. He was the best I have ever seen.

England have always struggled at no 10 imo ever since Dickie Jeeps. So they are bound to be impressed with Johny.. Not sure he'd have been a 1st choice No 10 for many other top international sides.
