Yes! I work in rescue adoption n I ALWAYS try to adopt cats out, at least in pairs, cuz I saw how much they need each other. Just like us, they need to be with their own kind.
I love the way cats (and kittens) are so cautious about their surroundings in a way that dogs just aren't. Especially places they don't know. But then cats are so much more cautious and wary than dogs anyway.
We've always had good luck putting them in a small, quiet room, with a non-carpet floor, with their food and water and litter box. Usually just a day or two is all that it takes for them to feel safe and settle in.
Wow, I didn't know that they tend to stay in for so long. My kittens immediately left their carrier (cautiously) right when I opened the door! This is probably explained by the 6 hour car ride beforehand though.
Every cat is different. Teddy was super shy so took his lead from Sushi - and I think Sushi was happy to just have Teddy for company in a safe place. Our last family cat, Boo, was straight out the carrier as soon as we opened the door!
6 hour drive??? I couldn't have endured it any longer. My kitten meowed in all pitches. After the first 5 kilometers I had to stop and thought about taking her back because she was so brutally homesick. But after 1.5 hours I was more exhausted than the kitten, the drive home was so extreme. Luckily, when she got home, she quickly forgot her homesickness.
Thanks for posting. A few weeks ago, my husband and I had to put our two babies (14 year old brother and sister) down on the same day. The grief I feel is horrendous but this melts my heart. Makes me think of when we brought them home from a farmhouse at 6 weeks old. They hid behind our couch for hours and I remember asking my husband when we went to bed, “What if they never come out?” Lol. By the next day we were falling in love with each other and they were literally one of the best parts of our lives. This video makes me excited for the day I’m ready to bring 2 more little ones home.
Aww, so sorry for your loss. We lost our last two cats within 3 months of each other aged 7 and 11 - both unexpectedly due to health conditions - and we were devastated as they were such a big part of our lives. It took 2 years before we were ready for new cats, but Teddy and Sushi bring us so much joy. It's painful for you now, but try to remember all the good times you had, rather than the sad. No other cats will replace them, but you'll have new happy memories to make with them :)
Condolences on your losses. I had to say goodbye to my 14 year old cat David a couple of months ago as well. I adopted him and my other cat Sam from our local Humane Society when they were each 4 months old. Both Sam and I were devastated at the loss. Today however we are both excited. I brought home our newest family member Saturday. Oliver is a four-month-old kitten I got from an animal rescue in town. I'm excited to watch the transformation from scared little kitty to happy and vibrant member of the family. Good luck to you.
My condolences. It is so difficult. Two at a time must be devastating sad. I had to put my almost 19 year old boy Smirnoff down on Dec 27th. I’m still numb. 😔😔😔😔😔😔😔 💖
@@louisehelgesson5471 They were. Furbabies are babies to those of us who either don’t have human kids or just feel that connected to our furbabies that we quite literally consider them our kids. @Chad Mower I have baby photos of my girl, who I had to euthanize when she 16 years old. Her little tiny face was so overboard cute the photos still just blow my mind. Got her from a city “dog pound”. My daughter said she looked like a baby fruit bat. 😂😂😂❤️. The innocent, pleading bright eyes, the microscopic face, the total vulnerability. I put a baby blanket in an Easter basket and took her first photos there. It still kills me, she was so precious. I babied her for her entire life. I’m still crying and she passed away in 2019.
