I want to bring up how intelligent the principal is here. He crumbled Citrin's entire plan by giving him what he might theoretically have wanted earlier- to lift the ban. But now that Citrin has profiteered from the ban, the plan being lifted is exactly what he does NOT want. The fact that trade is now allowed is antithetical to what Citrin's plan relied upon, meaning by allowing Citrin to keep going, he nearly guarantees that he won't keep going. Others will, for sure, but this is specifically targetted at Citrin. This is really smart.
I'm just more surprised Citrin wasn't caught because he forgot to pay his....high school equvialent of taxes instead of a yes-man sheepdog tripping his sidekick up.
@@TheRealSathyaSoma 1. Why do you say so? I don't really understand. 2. Besides... Why didn't the director straight-up punished his daughter or scold her severely when he caught her too in fraganti? It's that I grew up in an environment where adults (specially figures of authority) used to straight up punish their kids or scold them severely when they caught their children doing stuff they don't consider "right". And I was surprised (in an uncomfortable way, because this is new to me) when a figure of authority like the director of that school of this short-film didn't straight up punish his daughter nor scold her severely when she did stuff that was not "right". So, again: Why didn't the director straight-up punished his daughter or scold her severely when he caught her too in fraganti?
@@jmrabinez9254 Ik you asked the commenter, but my guess for no.2 is that the principal knows a simple punishment wouldn't solve this at all since *everyone* in the school is in on it.When Citron's punishment's done,he can keep doing his thing but more tidily, the staffs are still gonna keep more rubberbands, and kids are still gonna cough out rubberbands. From the commenter that compares the story with the actual prohibition,I think what the principal intends to do here is to make Citron face real life consequences of not being able to do whatever he wants other than just run around the field, clean the bathroom or something like that. So yeah,it's basically a funnier version of well,The Prohibition.Other than that, yeah, everything got resolved pretty quickly. My guess for no.1 is that because it adds more character depth to the Principal,so he's more than just a guy who opposed the main characters.Maybe he's a really good principal, who is genuinely optimistic and clever.Maybe he's a worn & jaded person who has too many experiences facing kids like Citron,so he decided to stop using methods that other principal/teacher would consider.
I cannot believe this whole thing was only 4 minutes long, I feel like I just watched the pilot episode of a lost animated series, like it packs just THAT much storytelling into such a short window. Absolutely incredible work 👏
"Don't worry, I have a good memory...and the grades to prove it." while holding back a smirk is such an incredibly clever line. It takes serious scriptwriting skill to execute a callback, deliver a joke, illustrate a character's personality, AND foreshadow the next story beat in ONE LINE.
It is simply CRIMINAL how few views this has. I haven't seen classic quality like this in a LONG time. Reminds me of that old Fillmore cartoon. This is really outstanding! I hope you all continue to make art, you all clearly have immense vision and talent, and I hope your creativity will reach tons more people, and bring out creativity in them as well. Seriously stellar stuff!
I love this. In my headcanon, he's defeated by the fact that the principal's daughter ultimately agrees with her father's decision. He can't push this any further to get outside of their good graces.
The script writing is so astronomically hilarious and well timed??? Not a single beat missed, we're able to tell so much about the characters- Not to mention the way the pacing went (so many kudos to the person who storyboarded this the plan sequence about rising to the top was perfect). The character design is so fun too and all of the voice acting was *chef's kiss*. The music at the interrogation scene was so beautiful too it really made me laugh with the transitions. THIS IS SO COOL!!! THE ART STYLE IS AWESOME AND ALL OF THE CHARACTERS HAVE SUCH FUN EXPRESSIONS AND MOVEMENTS!! IM GLAD SOMEONE IS TAKING A STAND FOR THEM SILLY BANDZ!!
This makes me excited for the future. Contrabandz reminds me of old youtube's nuggets of gold. Glad this nugget is getting some attention, though! You did a great job on this!
Oh man, I remember when Sillybandz were all over my elementary school. Weirdly enough they never got banned, (I think because they were technically accessories and they didn't want to have to make the dress code more complicated than it already was?) but they did get confiscated a lot when people tried to trade or play with them in class.
Honestly, I just wanna see more of this cast. It feels like it has the perfect fusion of OK KO and Fillmore!, but you're looking through on the opposite side of the "law." Please, even if it's just through shorts or something, these guys are great.
Has me very nostalgic for our little annoying figety toys cartel back in the day. Gotta hand it to Citran, he's smarter than his grades would let on. (also LOVE the art, love the vareity, scratches my brain real good, real eye candy stuff!)
Genuinely amazingly produced and written. Love how the… (spoilers below) …comparison to the prohibition comes to bite him back at the end. Keep up the great work!!
This film is amazing! The writing is very good, The voice actors did a great job, And I really like the character designs and your artstyle because it gives off that Cartoon Network vibe, specifically Chowder and OK K.O.! Lets Be Heroes!
paused to comment on something else and at 2:04 noticed how much detail was put into the board! cant wait to rewatch and see how many other background details could exist!
That was an amazing short film you did! Here's hoping you do more! I just wanna gossip over the analogs of each characters compared to the prohibition so spoilers... So Principal Monocot is obviously supposed to resemble the government and like the government with alcohol, banned the bands once proven somewhat harmful to the school environment. Him being principal means any change in the status of bands comes through him, which Citron takes advantages off to suit his needs. Citron craves power over everything else. You can see how he doesn't particularly care about the status of bands but rather the value of having bands when it's highly valuable, thus raising his status by being the provider of these contraband bands. He is the analog of the gangs, who takes advantage of the increasingly value of alcohol due to the ban in order to gain a monopoly over the market and therefore power. Once the ban lifted, Citron no longer have bands as an avenue to project power and is upset about it. Bro's rocking with that suit at the end. Chive, meanwhile, is the only one unenthusiastic about the ban of bands, seeing them as not harmful nor a means to an end, but a commodity which she unabashedly enjoys. She only joined Citron with the band gun just because she thought it would be fun. When Citron told his plans for fame with Chive, she accepts probably because being an Italian mob is fun. However, she was seen being worried over her possession of bands and being caught with them. She resembles the public or at least the pro-alcohol group during the prohibition. She is grateful when the ban is lifted despite limitations being implemented in its place. And finally, Pepper is a yes-man to Principal Monocot and enforces any rule, regardless of what feelings she holds towards it, that the principal passes. She feels pride over overlooking justice in the school halls and outrages at any attempt to circumnavigate around it. Of course, she is like the police during the prohibition, well... the police who weren't bribed and were willing to carry out the order.
I will say I am kinda sad that the ban lift wasn't his intention considering that's how Prohibition ended too, though in all fairness he likely flunked history so it's in character
The country of Italy and the Prohibition exist in this universe which poses the same conundrum as Cars universe. Anyway i was just babbling to boost the algorithm. This short film has great characters, great writing and great animations. Absolute 5/7
i remember silly bandz being banned at my school, i think because of a mix between encouraging gambling and cutting off childrens circulation. i never got into the underground trading though, i just hung them on my backpack like keychains, malicious compliance.
Citran reminds me of my own experience in grade school in the early 2000s when he starts talking about Prohibition. I was diagnosed with ADHD at an early age and I loved learning... but only about things which interested me at the time. I loved history but had terrible grades in other subjects like math, I didn't understand it and couldn't focus in class.
THIS IS SO SILLY WAHHH i love the characters dynamics and designs a whole lot!!!! :3 this is also so well paced!!!!! you fit so many fun moments, so much character building, and an awesome plot into not even 4 minutes!!! that is wild to me. I know this film is gonna be something I come back to whenever I'm having a bad day :]
This comment made me so happy :') this film was originally written to be around 7 minutes long, but my capstone professor only wanted our films to be a minute and 30 seconds, so we had to trim things down quite a bit. Glad the pacing works out still, that's a really great compliment to receive! Also I'm glad our film could brighten your day :D
Great animation! You and your team did a fantastic job with all the different aspects of the writing and animating. The fact that this was seemingly a school project and not a preview of an actual show start up is astonishing. As a former college student, myself, I can confirm that sometimes projects are half-assed, but sometimes you get projects that offer you a lot of freedom, and those projects are the ones that end up with amazing results such as this video right here. You deserve the positive attention this is getting and more positive attention in the future! Best of luck with your future projects!
