My parents were from Quanah. My dad's family moved to Houston during the Depression, and that's where I was born. We used to visit my mother's parents in Quanah every summer. My great-uncle Malon Owen was the sheriff of Hardeman County for 28 years. My second cousin Camilla Griffin was the editor-in-chief of the Quanah Tribune-Chief.
