Man in the mirror No, this was was played 100% orchestra, even the saxophone on stage is played live (if you can see, there is a little microphone for the saxophone there).

Man in the mirror I think the Turkish entry in 1993 was the one that was 100% playback.

The best song in the contest that year. Unfortunately the worst year for ridiculously long camera shots spoiling the viewing experience!

I understand your point , but when you read the lyrics the only thing the songs have in common is their title.
Tony Wegas is asking Maria Magdalena to tell him sweet lies until judgement day - his Maria Magdalena is contrasted as a devil woman , a lover and a virgin. It really has nothing to do with the biblical character beyond the name.
Doris Dragovic's song is like the cry of a woman who has lived a bad life ' Night was leading me around the whole world' but has now found redemption in the one she loves. I don't find the music similar at all either.
You would be right to say that there have been times when songs in the Eurovision have the same theme and are very similar , but I don't think that is what happened here. The basic concept of the two songs is different.

Watching the audience here is so bizarre compared to modern ESC. When the song starts to get really energetic, the people are sitting still like statues.

Eurovision used be more of a serious concert where men wearing suits and woman in evening dresses, sitting down like in a concert hall or opera house. And if they liked the song they simply gave it a good applause afterwards:) Today it's more like a football match inside the Eurovision venues. I find that more bizarre. But I guess I'm a bit old-fashioned ,;)

Honestly with every passing contests where the crowds gets so hyper I treasure these days when people were capable of just sitting down and enjoying the music, loud cheers from the crowd doesn't necesarily make me vibe better with a song.

Und was auch wichtig ist - damals wurde wenigsten noch in der Landessprache gesungen - cooler als immer alles in englisch ( auch wenns die internationale Sprache ist aber wo bleibt die Invidualität ?? )

Cheesy and sorta generic. It does not help either that I have listened to 5 other 'Maria Magdalena' songs much stronger than this one.
