We love a lot you mentioned here! A few we haven't read, but I'm adding them to my list! I found Wild Robot to our local used bookstore, and was so excited! We're reading Stuart little right now, then Wild Robot. My kids LOVE Dr. Dolittle. We got the classic starts version of that one.
The third installment of The Wild Robot series (The Wild Robot Protects) comes out in September. We love that one too! Great video. Thanks for sharing!
Books are the best! I have some young grands and love that they love books and to be read to. Some that you mentioned were my kids favorites many yrs ago. Thanks for the reminders for those of us who don’t home school but love our kids and want the best and most wholesome entertainment for them. 📚
Ohhh if I Had to pick one favorite all time it'd be Mr. Popper's Penguins! It is so good, lots of giggles even from Mom and Dad ! I want Wild Robot for next year and I believe there is a sequel book to it also ! We loved the Laura ingles Books. We visited her home in southern MO, last month, it's where she wrote the books ! It was very neat! We read Robinson Curusoe this year also , next year we have Swiss family Robinson on the list ! You have such good pics on the book list. We ljve a good classhc book !
We have reas aloud most of these, we love them! The other ones I’ll look into them! We do the same with most, we read aloud and then the movie. My kids always prefer the book as well. It’s so cute to see them now read them on their own. 😊
Good solid list! I agree most new release children's material gives me pause. We have read almost all of these! Thanks for mentioning Teeasures of the Snow! We read this many years ago. I think we need to put it on the reread list. Blessings to you!❤
We LOVED Trumpet of the Swan! My boys also really like Henry and Ribsy by Beverly Cleary, we have read that more than once already. We love read aloud so much, I am already on our third this summer!
Great choices! We've read and loved all of those except Trumpet of the Swan, which I think I'll put on our list this year. We loved Sweet Home Alaska. It's about a little girl in the Palmer Colony in Alaska. Great story and based on a real person. Ginger Pye, Pinky Pye, and the Moffat series by Eleanor Estes are some of our favorites too. So funny! So many more. This is our 14th year of homeschooling (my oldest will be a senior!! 😮) and we've always read aloud.
Some books that have become favorites of ours that I haven’t seen mentioned on other read aloud lists are Rasmus and the Vagabond by Astrid Lindgren, all four of the Heartwood Hotel books by Kallie George, Jack: The (Fairly) True Tale of Jack and the Beanstalk by Liesl Shurtliff, The Cuckoo Clock by Mary Stolz, the McBroom stories by Sid Fleischman, and all four of the Fairchild Family stories by Rebecca Caudill.
I watched The Little House on the Prairie growing up but I never read the books, I think it would be interesting for me to read the books and introduce the TV show to my kids. How do you determine which books are going to be read a louds and what books your kids will read independently for language arts?
Yay! We are also starting Charlottes Webb this year. Going to rent the others you talked about!! Question. Do you have a separate pile of books that your older kids read aloud? I was wondering if I should have my older boys take turns reading out loud but I never know cause this is the first year I have a reader 🥰
My dad read aloud to us in the evenings when I was a kid. You mentioned a lot of our favorites, but I also remember enjoying Running Out of Time by Margaret Peterson Haddix, books by Elizabeth Enright (like The Four Story Mistake and Gone Away Lake), and Swiss Family Robinson. It’s been so long since I read any of those though. I can’t wait until my kids are a little older so that I can read those and some of your suggestions too. 😊
With your love of animal books, have you read any Dick King-Smith stories? We loved A Mouse Called Wolf, and the Sophie series. We also loved the Tumtum and Nutmeg books by Emily Bearn. The Children of Cherry Tree Farm by Enid Blyton is also great. The children learn about the animals that live in the English countryside - a great living book.
