I recently stayed at a resort hotel in Phoenix, they had safes just like these ones.
One day I closed it and pressed lock without putting a code in and I locked myself out. I called the office, told them what room I was in and just like in the video a maintenance guy shows up and opens it right in front of me. He didn't ask my name or for any proof that I was the guest of that room.
The safe was secured to a closet shelf, anyone could probably just knock the shelf out of place and walk out with the whole thing.
I'll never put anything in a hotel safe again.

you have to as a hotel have a mastercode...what happens if you forget the code or keep it locked?

That is why you want to have SafePlace safe in your room. Our safes DO NOT have a
master code to open. When your safe has a master code to open it, there is no
way to track who was the employee that opened the safe, and in some cases can
lead to theft from a guest safe.
SafePlace safes DO NOT have a master key to open the safe, any key can be
duplicated and just like a master code, there is no way to track who was the
employee that opened the safe, and in some cases can lead to theft from a guest
    safe.
SafePlace is the only company is the world that uses a Override unit (UltiMax)
that requires the security officer to use 2 (TWO) passwords to open a safe and
keeps a log of the last 500 events per safe.

I wonder did he really was in his own room, or if someone's room?
I would agree that this is a flaw only if he really asked to open the safe from stranger's room.

I guess a better alternative to bringing large sums of money when you're abroad is to maintain a bank acc. of universally accepted currencies like USD and GBP and withdraw from an ATM of a branch of your bank to avoid service fees.

I mean, I don't really see what the big deal is. Of course these safes will have a bypass that is controlled by the hotel. All it would take is some idiot leaving the safe locked and no one else could use it. If you really are worried THAT much about your valuables then lock them elsewhere or bring your own safe with a cable lock that can secure it to something. I could see maybe the master code being randomized, but other than that I feel management should have a right to have a master manual key in the office.

Go for the Elsafe brand which is much more secure than the models shown in the video

Use Elsafe model of a safe. They can't crack it and your valuables will always be safe.

We have stayed at multiple resorts in the Caribbean and in Europe for over 25+ years and it’s usually 3 trips a year. We’ve NEVER been robbed. All safes were installed professionally and NO, no one tried to walk out with the safe or tried to get into our room. Hotels are not that stupid.
I don’t know where you’re staying but maybe find a better hotel say above 4 stars.
The fear mongering nowadays is pathetic as well as the stories about people trying to get into a safe.

I caught an hotel employee robbing my room safe in South Africa. This is why I am interested in this video.I would agree with all their findings and its what I thought. He knew the mastercode or some way of opening the door.I don't think he was the only one either I believe he was taking some of the money from the money belt re zipping it and the putting the belt back into the safe and relocking it so that the person would be unaware that a robbery had taken place.I would never trust an electronic safe in a hotel bedroom again but would use a safe behind reception.Believe me these electronic hotel bedroom safes can be opened by hotel staff who have access too bedrooms.

Of course all hotel staff are thieves. Typical american paranoia. Of course the management have keys. When I got locked out of my room safe, a manager and security person turned up with keys.

This is so stupid... I work for a hotel and have access to safes and I'm telling you atleast at my property there is no way you gonna get away with stealing some ones belonging from a safe not saying it can't happen in some shitty ghetto ass hotel but not mine that's for sure
