The Alcázar of Seville (Spanish: "Reales Alcázares de Sevilla" or "Royal Alcazars of Seville") is a royal palace in Seville, Spain, originally a Moorish fort. The palace is renowned as one of the most beautiful in Spain, being regarded as one of the most outstanding examples of mudéjar architecture found on the Iberian Peninsula. The upper levels of the Alcázar are still used by the royal family as the official Seville residence and are administered by the Patrimonio Nacional. It is the oldest royal palace still in use in Europe, and was registered in 1987 by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, along with the Seville Cathedral and the General Archive of the Indies.
Boy! As far as location goes, the Water Gardens are so much more awesome are any dreary dungeon that served as location for the other noble houses. To those who say Arabs had nothing to do with it. Alcazar is actually the word for "The Palace" in Arabic. Andalusia was an Arab state as much as America is american. Until the 15th century when Granada fell and kingdoms of (Castile and Leon) started an age of terror to demolish Moorish existence.
Jack Sparrow You know nothing...Jack Sparrow (had to make the jokeXD) about the history of Spain. The kingdoms of Castile and Aragon took back what was taken from them when the moorish invaded the Iberian peninsula in 711 AD. So they expelled these people, and that was the best otherwise Spain, Portugal and probably France would be moorish now and the western culture wouldn't be the one we know.
DSoler9 your right in the fact they took back their lands, but what jack is talking about is how they destroyed and claimed the buildings, palaces built by the moors who were alot more advanced than the rest of europe at the time. I've only seen three minutes of Prince Doran and I already think he'll be a great character. He seems like Tywin minus the bad case of asshole syndrome.
The location where they shot Alcázar of Seville is built over the ruins of a Roman city once a fortress of the Umayyad empire its where a testament to islamic art and architecture
Except it wasnt. It was built by Pedro "the Cruel" of Castille (you can even see tiles with the castles and lions of Castille in the background in this video). Some parts of the Alcazar imitates moorish architecture, but others are simply artistically western, like the rennaissance façade from which the dornish Prince gazes to the garden.
aperson22222 Dornish people are modelled off of Moorish people, they just have this Spanish or Portuguese accent in the show. Siddig is of an ethnicity that's close enough to Moorish i believe.
2kzoltan It is based on Moorish Spain so it is actually a mix.Dorne has different ethnicities, the Yronwoods for example are supossed to be First Men like the northmen, then there are andals and rhoynars. That is why it is based on medieval spain, moors and christian kingdoms mixed and living together
thesuntrider There was no Spain back then, it was called Iberia. The Moors invaded the Iberian Peninsula (which is made up of Spain & Portugal in modern times) and made it Muslim territory and they were hostile to any other religion. They weren't living with other religious kingdoms. Only their own. GRRM has said that Dorne is based off of the Moors who ruled in Iberia at the time. It should be obvious based on the attire of the Dornish soldiers in the show, etc.
2kzoltan Im sorry but youre wrong. The Christian Kingdoms and the Moors lived peacefully in a number of ocassions, some of the smaller kingdoms in which the caliphat splitted even joined those christian kingdoms peacefully. You are being shown Martell soldiers, if the show stays loyal to the books (not very likely) you should also see knights and more european styled soldiers too
I really couldn't care less what the historical antecedents for Dorne are. It's irrelevant. What I'm talking about is a group of characters who are all part of the same family, and since they have so very much DNA in common with one another, the actors playing them should all have come from the same background. Saying of Alexander Siddig "Well, Syrian is close enough to Latino" is shockingly insensitive and ignorant, and accepting Toby Sebastian on the same grounds is even worse.
GNerdful Exactly what I was thinking. I bet there's is going to be a scene in which doran (or hotah) says: Oberyn would be angry if he would have known what you were trying to do, something along those lines
The palace in the heart of the garden ( a la Highgarden, if you will) is more impressive and opulent because it exists in a desert culture by “ wealth was as measured in gold as it is by water” ... how could you leave that out and (not mention it ) and still be authentic to the idea of what Dorne is?
Anyone else wondering why Dorne/Sunspear isn't in the theme song cinematic yet? It's been 4 episodes..3 of which involved Dorne...so why isn't it in the intro yet?
Eddard Stark Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North Exactly. Trystane is just there, he's barely being mentioned, whereas Quentyn has got a plot at least. Not the most interesting one, I agree, but still way more interesting than Trystane's who is just playing Cyvasse with Myrcella all the time. And I don't believe Quentyn's plot line is over yet.
Eddard Stark Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North I agree, but that's kind of my point in a way, as Trystane is just seen occasionally in the books (as with this episode). On the other hand, I had to read through Quentyn's long quest to achieve absolutely nothing for Dorne. The only thing is, that the way Quentyn died was exciting (trying not to sound like Ramsay here), and may have been a lead to something more interesting in WoW.
It's to show how much each one has changed the other, as if Trystane has become a large influence on mycella by getting her to wear the dornish orange and myrcella getting trystane to wear her traditional pink.
High garden is much more beautiful it is old and refined with beautiful gardens and the most lush plants and fauna of the 7 kingdoms and the castles look like they were ripped out of a storybook sorry but it's way better than dorne
am I the only one who thinks it doesn't look like it fits the time period? To me, this architecture appears to be post-renaissance, whereas the medieval time period of Game of Thrones is obviously pre-renaissance
@@nmd1120 Because no one else was hostile-they simply let you know that the style of Dorne is not Renaissance but it actually goes back before the Medieval period. They were not rude to you so you didn't have to be rude to them
lmao is there a theme tour of this location in spain? like the one for winterfell in ireland? This location, and the one in the show for quarth... I want to visit these places
So Bronn is getting his head split open? This would be so much easier if they stuck more to the books. It worked well for the past four seasons but now it's getting a bit too different

Yes
Seville
Yes in Spain and the arabs build it long time ago
No the location is dorne
*sees George in one of these vids* oh god. prepare to be lectured about game of thrones but love every second of it.
Yaaay for Spain!
I've only seen three minutes of Prince Doran and I already think he'll be a great character. He seems like Tywin minus the bad case of asshole syndrome.
Oh wow. Areo Hotah's actor talks like Titus Andromedon.
It's not a set, it's not a set! That's what's great about...our set!
The location where they shot Alcázar of Seville is built over the ruins of a Roman city once a fortress of the Umayyad empire its where a testament to islamic art and architecture
Myrcella is so beautiful, a true princess.
Only GoT that can shoot in a palace like Alcazar. Best show on Tv !
Aero Hotah looks awesome
The palace didn't strike to me as Spanish, but then I realised it was built by the Umayyads of Cordoba
2:28 There we have the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Castille... The Lion and the Castle.
Can't wait to see Hotah in action with that polearm!
I love the natural sceneries of the north far more.
U guys can thanks the Moors for the set ;)
@Sabrina Kall
he is speaking about the palace !!!!
Don't get me wrong, I love Siddig, but they really should have gone with Latino actors to play all the Martells.
aperson22222 Dornish people are modelled off of Moorish people, they just have this Spanish or Portuguese accent in the show.
Sad how areo and Doran believed areo was a big protector and he was taken out by a little girl with a knife 😂
Loved Indira in Rome
1:18 as if you were the one crying on the boat.
Elinia Tollea lol
Elinia Tollea Especially since she's not even the same actress that played her in the earlier seasons.
She is talking about her character, not about herself. What is wrong with that???
After hearing him without the accent on the show I just realized that is Dr. Bashir from DS9!
It blew my mind.
they fucking hit the nail on the gardens of dorne location
Its funny how Oberyn repeatedly says we do not kill little girls in Dorne get his lover and his children are trying to do just that.
GNerdful Exactly what I was thinking. I bet there's is going to be a scene in which doran (or hotah) says: Oberyn would be angry if he would have known what you were trying to do, something along those lines
One of the Islamic Treasures in Andalusie. Breathtaking!
just go and visit directly Morocco to enjoy the original moorish architecture !!!
They ruined Dorne’s storyline & owe the whole crew & actors an apology
Julian Bashir has moved up in the world
He's my SWEETIE!
Moral: Any place can be a set with enough money.
She’s still in the basement in kings landing watching her daughter turn to dust right?
the scene between myrcella and trystane, we're going to see in the next episodes right? please tell me they didn't delete it.
Jasmine Oliveira I think so, probably ep. 6 or 7.
Oh good i'm glad, thanks ;)
Should be " Dornish Wine Gardens " haha
big fan of Oberyn and Ellaria sand
Trystane, you shouldn't fall in love with Myrcella. You should go after Danaerys.
Da Goodest I think you mean Quentyn... Who's not even on the show... For whatever reason...
TheAnakinn Maybe because he's the most boring character in the entire book series.
Dolan Khan Trystane is far more boring than Quentyn though,
Eddard Stark Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North Exactly.
What is that music between 0:23-0:55?
Hottah vs the Mountain hype
There is a scene where Ellaria dumps her wine on the floor-Was there an invisible tarp to protect the real floor of the real palace?
It's Thunderian's Birthday!
why do myrcella and trystane's outfit colors keep switching
It's to show how much each one has changed the other, as if Trystane has become a large influence on mycella by getting her to wear the dornish orange and myrcella getting trystane to wear her traditional pink.
Ive just realise dorne is very similar to real spain
Came up in my recommendation today. Why D&D, why did you have to mess up Dornish plot? It was better left ignored like Young Griff storyline
They wasted his character.
0:12 bill nye is that you?
dornish palace is more luxurious compared to the damp winter fell, stinking red keep, old high garden and sickening riverrun
High garden is much more beautiful it is old and refined with beautiful gardens and the most lush plants and fauna of the 7 kingdoms and the castles look like they were ripped out of a storybook sorry but it's way better than dorne
I forget why she cut her hair?
am I the only one who thinks it doesn't look like it fits the time period? To me, this architecture appears to be post-renaissance, whereas the medieval time period of Game of Thrones is obviously pre-renaissance
♞ Go Fuck Yourself ♞ that is also true
the palace there shooting in was built in the 1100s
@@nmd1120 Rudeness and cussing is UNNECESSARY!
@@nancyomalley9959 what makes you say that?
@@nmd1120 Because no one else was hostile-they simply let you know that the style of Dorne is not Renaissance but it actually goes back before the Medieval period. They were not rude to you so you didn't have to be rude to them
I prefer Doran to Oberyn.
Well, this is awkward.
Myrcella's name is Nell. Tiger. Free? Bruh who named her?
They fucked up the Dorne story line.
Castelo de Dom Pedro e Maria Padilha em meados de 1350. ❤
1:28 no one hits the jackpot in the game of thrones fool... nobody
lmao is there a theme tour of this location in spain? like the one for winterfell in ireland? This location, and the one in the show for quarth... I want to visit these places
i realy like prince doran because i hope his reputation from the books payoff on the show
They couldn't afford to cast Arianne Martell? Ughh.....
I hope Ellaria doesn´t take over Arianne´s role.
Game of Drones.
royal alcázar is just a copy of the original Palace Alhambra.
Alhambra is more beautiful more breathtaking and fantastic then the copy royal alcazar.
i really dislike elliara sand
Walter White come one she's not nearly as bad as Skyler
Walter White I'm surprised to hear that. You both like to hurt children.
Anyone else here thinks their Dornish accent sounds weird??
Binuyaka Vanilla Only Pedro Pascal was the only one that sounded really genuine with the Dornish accent
Binuyaka Vanilla its the spanish accent but with a twist and hells yea pedro made it sound so damn sexy
Hanna M Pedro based it off his father's Chilean accent.
Binuyaka Vanilla There's no such thing as a genuine Dornish accent, because Dorne isn't a real place. Whatever the show makes it is what it is.
Binuyaka Vanilla That was because Pedro was a genuine Spanish speaker (Chilean)
If Jaime is replacing Arys Oakheart, does that mean he is going to get his head smashed in with an axe instead?
So Bronn is getting his head split open? This would be so much easier if they stuck more to the books. It worked well for the past four seasons but now it's getting a bit too different
+Elefantti Norsu that isn't Jamie's prophecy
***** it didn't say it was HER little brother and valyrian is a GENDER NEUTRAL language, serious pay attention
***** lmao good luck honey
is that myrcella? shes grown up now
Ole, miarma.
Old doc Bashir isn't looking so good.
Urghhhh where the fuck is Arianne?
You ruined Dorne....
