There are mainly two Windows editions available, Windows 11 Home and Windows 11 Pro. As the name suggests, Windows 11 Pro is the more feature-rich edition, but most laptops come with the Home Single Language edition.
If you are using windows mainly for business and networking purposes, then you need the Pro edition which is more feature rich and more suitable for networking and security purposes. The features in the Pro edition are more geared towards professionals and enterprise-managed PCs.

@@HawaHawa-Dev that is a RTM Generic key. Windows 11 generic keys are technically default keys that allows you to install the OS without activation. They don't provide you with a licensed copy, but are great for testing new builds.

2:02 I get an error saying we can’t activate windows on this device as you don’t have a valid digital license or product key. This is after entering the generic key and clicking on the start button where it asks to upgrade windows.

THANKS! I had not activated Win11 Home. My win11 pro key did not work. I used your key to upgrade from home to pro and then used my pro key to activate. It worked.
best how to video ive seen and it worked for me now i just have to find my original product key.
to do this you can go to your command prompt and type in the following: wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey before you do it. then copy and paste the answer and enter it into the the change product key box the second time in order to re activate.

good video, i got a key from a web site and it did not work cause i was on single language edition, but after following this guide and tyring the code i purchased it worked!
so you still need a genuine key in order to activate it at the end so us the viewers still have to buy an activation key in order to activate it, it will upgrade but without the key we can't move forward so doing this is a waste of time.
You can Activate by it by command
works! Its good and yes, turn off wifi and yes go buy a key later or you will be ... But if you just need to get it updated and ready. This is a good way to at least get to the place you need to be.
can i purchase a pro key from amazon and activate this pro from basic version using this method ,pro activation license on microsoft is showing more money than amazon pro key activation

if your windows is activated with a digital license i dont think you are able to upgrade it since windows is activated with a digital license as i have tried this my self and got the same problem as you. i did some deep searching and found out the only reason i couldnt is because my windows was activated with a digital license.

Is this still possible. I have two PCs that have Windows 11 Home Edition. We want to upgrade them to Windows 11 Professional. The company that sold us our Pcs told me that the only options we have are buying two new Pcs with Windows Pro or make an Open Value Agreement. But it seems a bit strange to me

Comment on April 2024. Yes, you can switch to Pro this way. But if you don't have a license for Pro then your windows becomes unactivated. I switched to Pro for the BitLocker feature

You must switch off the Internet. First switch off the Internet and then go to the settings and enter the product key. Works perfectly. Windows 11 Home to 11 Pro. It does not work from 10 to 11 Pro

@@pearborn.6066 In my case I couldn't. However, I tried with a very basic and limited HP ALL-IN-ONE which originally came with Windows 8 Single Language, I don't know if that was the reason.

Is it possible to just enter the valid 11 pro license without using the generic key?
If u already having windows 11 pro with your PC, then u can directly enter the pro key.. Otherwise you have to enter the generic key to cause the upgrade from home to pro... And after that u can enter the pro licence key to activate.

your mobo has a built in oem license of Home version so the installer detects it automatically and installs as default. after installing, deactivate your system and supply new product key

it upgraded to windows pro. But bitlocker doesn't work. Says 'The BitLocker encryption on this drive isn't compatible with your version of windows. Try opening the drive using a newer version of windows".
I upgraded it just for using bitlocker
