and, AND, if Fr Joe really does manage to get Dr Bergsma on the show, it'll be Awesome medicine for us all 😃 ...love from Margaret in New Zealand. I can't believe Fr Joe actually read my question out! Whoop! Whoop!!
1:04:34 Wouldn’t she have to get baptized outside the Catholic Church? In my experience with inviting non-baptized adults into the Faith, they have to attend OCIA and the church won’t just do one of the sacraments of initiation, but will require all three. This has been a frustration to me as an adult trying to welcome other adults into the Faith who want to take it slowly. Would you please follow up this topic during a future show?
I have a follow-up question to your "appropriate church attire" segment: I am a Lector at Sunday mass and always wear a suit or sportcoat and tie. Of the men that Lector at my church, I am the only one who dresses in this fashion, the others wear slacks with button down shirts, no ties and in one case an untucked short sleeve shirt and slacks. No one is dressed sloppily but I am the only one who dresses up. Recently our parish has gone back to 2 lectors at each mass (post COVID)and on occasion I am reading with one of the other men. I think we look a little goofy, me in my suit and the other guy dressed like Charlie Harper. Is this distracting from the scripture? From mass? Should I give in and start dressing down to fit in? In my opinion, reading the scripture in front of the congregation should be done with respect and reverence that is conveyed in part by a suit and tie. Maybe this is a non-issue and its just in my head but its been on my mind lately. Thank you. PS: Pre-COVID my fellow Lectors at my preferred mass were all women except my son who also wore a suit or sportcoat.
Regarding the lady who wants to be baptized-if her husband was married 2 times previously but did not do so in the Catholic Church he therefore shouldn’t need to get those marriages annulled. She can get baptized and then have a Catholic wedding. Where am I going wrong? Please answer❤
I’m that lady. 😂 Because he was married outside of the Church I think my husband just needs to prove a “lack of form” for the first marriage, which actually sounded pretty simple to me, (he’s just being a stubborn butthead about it right now) and I’m also under the impression that the second marriage might not come into play at all because it wouldn’t have been considered valid to begin with because of the first marriage but I’m not 100% sure on any of that either. 🤷🏻♀️ And to be clear I don’t feel like the priest at my local parish was being a “meany” at all, he didn’t flat out refuse to baptize me (but he did make it sound like this was going to be necessary step), and after hearing Fr Joe’s take (and ALL the nitty gritty details) I really think in his mind my priest was actually playing the long game when it came to the possibility of getting a two-for-one on the salvation of souls…because IDEALLY spouses should be helping each other out with this stuff, right? 🤷🏻♀️🤣 Uncle Lonny’s “siege warfare for Jesus” plan just might work a miracle though…🤔
Amen! Thanks Father!
