This show took what the Raimi trilogy did right and then heavily improved the comic accuracy, especially in terms of Spider-Man's personality. Don't get me wrong, I loved the movies growing up and they did Peter justice, but Spidey's dialogue felt so dry, it was lacking the quit wit that Spectacular Spider-Man nailed every episode. Raimi laid the foundation for a flawless Spider-Man portrayal and Spectacular Spider-Man finished the job
The Spider-Man in the trilogy is more human the “dry” dialogue isn’t wasted it adds to his character. That’s why he has the most emotional connecting scenes. Humor in a lot of peters situations wouldn’t work.
@@Karma-pq9fi My point is, in the comics they always found a way to work in a sense of humor when he's Spider-Man as a sort of way of not letting villains see when he's hurt or worried. In the Raimi movies that part of him basically got cut out. Sure he may have had a reason for it, but whether or not it was intentional, it's a crucial part of the character that I personally think should be present in each iteration, otherwise it just feels like Peter and Spidey are the same, when in reality, he let's loose and is more himself when he puts on the mask
@@Karma-pq9fi Like, take Into the Spiderverse for example. Spidey knew he was probably on his deathbed when he talked to Miles at the start, but he still cracked a joke or two to not show weakness so Miles would feel safe. His humor is as much for the people as for himself, he laughs at the villains so New York has less to fear knowing he isn't phased (or at least won't show it). That's a big part of who he is. He doesn't just save people, he gives them hope and confidence. Every superhero does the saving the day, but Spider-Man connects with the city in large part because he can make them smile in the darkest times

The fact that Tobey’s incarnation shoots the webs out of his actual wrists… bending those back to slow the train is much more uncomfortable… it’s like peeling off a toenail but 10x worse
They detach from his wrists. Spider-Man's webbing is always depicted detached from his wrists, and Tobey is no different. Look again at 0:25. The webbing's detached.
It's not like he's pushing it himself, the strength in the train stopping and truck stopping comes from how hard they're able to hold onto their webs, tobey collapsed after stopping the train, this spider-man didn't collapse from the truck, and also it's not like they pushed the vechiles they were on with their hands, they had to hold onto their webs to stop them

One thing they very much improved with Spectacular I would say would be the scene with uncle Ben's killer, where instead of him just randomly tripping and falling to his death, thus making Spider-Man look like a murderer, like what happened in the movie, Peter in the cartoon actually saved him since taking revenge on him wasn't what Ben would have wanted.
@@scottchaison1001 Read my comment again, because I already explained that. Also, I wasn't saying the whole movie's bad or anything, I just said I think the cartoon handled specifically Peter dealing with his uncle's killer better than the movie.
Nah, the Raimi films did that better. Realistically, Peter wouldn't immediately learn the lesson like he did in the show. In the film it makes much more sense - the lesson set in slowly after his anger and shock subsided and he was allowed to grieve and reflect. Taking that slower route also allowed the film to have that fantastic scene with Aunt May helping Peter to realize what kind of man Uncle Ben would've wanted him to be. It's pretty obvious that real reason the show had Peter catch the guy before he fell to his death was to adhere to the TV-Y7 rating.
For those who don’t know: the creators of the show were forced to recreate certain scenes or shots from the movies in this show. It didn’t have to be 1 to 1 but they were MADE to do this.
3:02 the original scene from Spider-Man 3 was in turn, inspired by the 90’s Spider-Man animated series (as in Spidey just inheriting the suit and realizing the color change while swinging upside down).
This show is probably the most comic accurate representation of Spider-Man I've seen. I mean, a lot of the animation frames are ripped straight from the comics, and so is the dialogue. The combination of comic accuracy and Raimi influences are balanced greatly, and make the show as iconic as it is.
I think the proper wording is that it takes heavy inspiration from the raimi movies. “Spider-Man the new animated series” also attempted something similar, but it didn’t really work out too well.
The show pays tribute to Spider-Man’s great history in pop culture. The show pulls from many different eras of comics and writers. Mostly from the Earth 616 comics from the 60’s; but combines them with Brian Michael Bendis’s Ultimate Spider-Man comics from the 2000’s. This presented us with an almost definitive depiction of teenage Spider-Man. The one thing I didn’t like about the 90’s Spider-Man series, (besides the budget animation), was that it felt grounded in the 80’s-90’s era Spider-Man comics. That era of Spider-Man is very hit or miss; and some of the choices that were made for that show, really shows nowadays. The fight scenes from that show were also horrible. Spectacular Spider-Man is the Spider-Man show.
I dunno, I never detected any references to Ultimate Spider-Man. Spidey's best friend was Gwen, Green Goblin isn't mutated, Venom is an alien, Harry is very 60s 616... I dunno, well I guess Aunt May is as young as Ultimate Aunt May and Eddie was Peter's best friend. Those are the only similarities I can think of. (Other than Spidey being a teenager. That's the obvious one, but Spidey's a teenager in a lot of stories)
@@mar_speedman Characters like Kenny Kong are from Ultimate Spider-Man. In Earth 616, Peter Parker doesn’t have friends in high school, and rarely socializes with his peers outside of the instances where he is being bullied by Flash. In Spectacular Spider-Man, he goes to school with Mary Jane Watson, Harry Osborn, and Gwen Stacy; like in the Ultimate Universe. In the main continuity, he meets those characters later on when he is about to graduate. He moves in with Harry Osborn when he graduates; that’s when he really began to start a friendship with Harry, MJ, Gwen, and Flash. The show combines Ditko and Bendis’s teenage Spider-Man years, because most people aren’t really familiar with the isolationist character that Peter Parker was portrayed as being in the original comics. He really only dated Betty Brant and basically tried to avoid Liz Allen throughout Ditko’s run; so by actually having him come across as an actual teenager, is pulled heavily from Bendis.
@@mar_speedmane, there are a LOT of references to Ultimate Spider-Man in this show. 1. The fact that Harry, Gwen, and MJ all go to high school with Peter like they do in the Ultimate comics when in the 616 comics they never met until college 2. Gwen is basically just Ultimate MJ in this show. They took both versions of MJ and projected the classic version onto her shows counterpart and the Ultimate version onto Gwen, since their friendship throughout the show before they get together at the end is more reminiscent of his relationship with MJ in the Ultimate comics than his relationship with Gwen in any comic version 3. Eddie Brock is 100% based on Ultimate Eddie Brock. Nothing about this show's version of the character comes from the 616 version. He's a fcollege student working for Dr. Connors, he's Peters's childhood friend, and Eddie even talks in one episode about both of their parents dying in a plane crash together. All of this is straight out of Ultimate Spider-Man. They still kept Venom an alien like the original version, but that's it. 4. The episode where Tombstone tries to get Spider-Man to work for him is based on when Kingpin (who the show couldn't use due to rights issues) tried to do the same thing in the Ultimate comics 5. Otto Octavius working for Norman Osborn before becoming a supervillain is from Ultimate Spider-Man too 6. Kong is in this show, and he didn't even exist outside Ultimate Spider-Man 7. Kraven being mutated by a genetic experiment is another thing from Ultimate Spidey, since the classic version just uses some sort of jungle potion
@@eagle_klaw_ Wow. I really wasn't paying attention while watching the show! Also, I was expecting my familiarity with Ultimate Spider-Man to mean I would spot these things, but being less familiar with Earth 616 made a lot of these sail over my head, it seems.

Fun fact : The web noise at 0:53 is also used frequently for the Decepticon Arachnid in Transformers : Prime, a show that also features Josh Keaton, the voice actor of Spidey in this series, as a human, and Steve Blum, the voice actor of Green Goblin in this series, as Starscream.
@@Jazmission Yeah, whenever I watch a cartoon and hear a noise from Prime I feel the urge to watch the whole series again. And then I watch the whole series again.
I liked the Raimi one better because with the death Peter learns guilt and learns to forgive instead of hurting the people who hurt him and his family. If it wasn’t for the death of Ben’s killer, Peter probably would’ve killed Sandman at the end of Spider-Man 3.
Peter didn’t even kill him he disarmed him cause he had a gun on him, carradine backed himself out the window, peter didn’t save him out of anger but he didn’t kill him
just something to say, not all of these are Raimi references, some of them actually go way back to the comics. For example, the spider bite. Obviously, Peter was bitten by a spider to receive his powers. He wasn't inherited with his abilities. Otherwise, he might've not been the first Spider-Man. Just because it was in the Raimi trilogy doesn't mean it's a reference. However, the scenes that refer to the Raimi trilogy the most, I'd say would be the swinging sequences.
@@13.79 yeah but you have to realize that half of this is not something you’d put side by side to compare, more so be like, “oh i remember they did a scene similar to this in the movie” and then realize it’s bc it’s from the comics
Spectacular Spider-man honestly took the best parts of the films and comics while doing its own thing with some characters like Venom, Tombstone, etc. Honestly it is probably one of the best interpretations of spiderman
This is a little hard to describe, but here it goes. In Spider-Man 3, Peter tries to catch the falling ring and Harry comes in from the right side. The shot pulls out to show Harry kicking Peter to the left. The shot continues to show Peter tumbling, landing, and skidding on the roof of a building, still panning to the right. The same moves and camera angles were used again at 7:57.
This is why the PS4 Spider-Man game is so awesome. It takes storylines from the rami trilogy, mcu movies, and even the TASM movies. It improves on all of them too
@Brandon Brooks Well yes, you're right, but I mean that as a whole it takes more things from Ditko/Lee than from the Ultimate comics, but they have some similarities and references as you said
Never seen this show before but this instantly made of my favorite Spider-Man show. Paying tribute to the only Spider-Man I’ll acknowledge. About to start watching it
When someone brings a universe to life it really becomes a foundation many other ideas will come from. Directors were influenced by comic drawings. They bring those to life and influence writers to create even bigger stories which then influences others and so on. And don’t forget it’s the combined imagining of all involved in the process that brought the Tobey-verse to life. It’s lightning in a bottle.
This is basically an alternative version of the Rami Verse but created not only a alternative universe but a brand new spider man with different motives
There is one more during the first Sandman fight in Spectacular. Spidey is hitted and he immediatly counters with a punch , that's the same as when Black Spiderman counters Sandman during the Subway fight
I still feel bad for peter in the end of spectacular spiderman.. he win as spiderman to green goblin and killed him now harry hates him and gwen needs to be in harry side for a long time.. sometimes its really hard to be spidey..

They took both versions of MJ and projected the classic version onto her shows counterpart and the Ultimate version onto Gwen, since their friendship throughout the show before they get together at the end is more reminiscent of his relationship with MJ in the Ultimate comics than his relationship with Gwen in any comic version
4. The episode where Tombstone tries to get Spider-Man to work for him is based on when Kingpin (who the show couldn't use due to rights issues) tried to do the same thing in the Ultimate comics
5. Otto Octavius working for Norman Osborn before becoming a supervillain is from Ultimate Spider-Man too
6. Kong is in this show, and he didn't even exist outside Ultimate Spider-Man

U forgot the scene when Spiderman is about to have his head crushed by Doc oct in Spiderman two and his uses both his arms to pull tables at him in a diagonal way, in Spectacular this happens when Venom returns with the symbiote and is holding Spiderman and he uses the exact same defense but with two boxes instead of tables. Don’t believe me? Watch them both. It was a clear reference to that.

Go to this link they are collecting signatures to see if Sony and Disney eat their pride and make another season www.change.org/p/the-walt-disney-company-3ra-temporada-de-spectacular -spiderman-spectacular-spiderman-3-season why look it is simple All Disney has to do is put money and lend the television rights and then Sony takes care of the rest and you will see how much money they would pull bringing this series of back I don't care if it's for Disney + Netflix or Tv I'm worth mothers but Disney, Sony swallow your fucking pride for a bitch once and let the fans be happy it's the perfect equation

The Rami movies were amazing and this tv show was spectacular
Sam Raimi's version of Spiderman is the best Spiderman, better than the current version

No.
Yep now MCU made a joke out of spiderman
MCU Spider-Man is parody of spiderman.
Don't you guys think your being a little harsh just because he isn't a copy pasted version of Tobey doesn't make him a parody
Wow great video! I never knew just how many references to the Raimi trilogy there were in The Spectacular Spider-Man! I adore the Raimi trilogy and this show so this is awesome!!!
Spec is the closest we'll ever get to a perfect Spider-Man Story outside of comics.
Creo que hablo por la mayoría de los Hispanohablantes de que está serie es la mejor de todas de Spider-man, hasta el día de hoy me sigue doliendo que la hayan cancelado 😞
Yea some sounds in prime come from this show
@@Jazmission Yeah, whenever I watch a cartoon and hear a noise from Prime I feel the urge to watch the whole series again.
And then I watch the whole series again.

I prefer Spectacular, how he save the guy rather than just killing him: 6:11
I liked the Raimi one better because with the death Peter learns guilt and learns to forgive instead of hurting the people who hurt him and his family. If it wasn’t for the death of Ben’s killer, Peter probably would’ve killed Sandman at the end of Spider-Man 3.
Peter didn’t even kill him he disarmed him cause he had a gun on him, carradine backed himself out the window, peter didn’t save him out of anger but he didn’t kill him
True
@@johncenagaming581 Yes, but you need to understand that in spectacular, sandman wasn't uncle Ben's killer
elZertin:v lol “I have a small peepee”
5:44 to 6:12 such a great mashup
just something to say, not all of these are Raimi references, some of them actually go way back to the comics.
Yeahhh,i mean like 80% of the fight scene in the cartoon doesn't look like the comic book fight sequence
@Simeon Petrov Well, when you look at it that way, it makes a lot more sense on why the scene was featured.
All of these reference the raimi films and i agree that the comics came out first but raimi mixed it up a bit or came up with his own scenes
@Simeon Petrov i mean they do that in danny phantom too, the only thing that makes it a reference is where the spiders are crawling across his dna
@@13.79 yeah but you have to realize that half of this is not something you’d put side by side to compare, more so be like, “oh i remember they did a scene similar to this in the movie” and then realize it’s bc it’s from the comics
The 90’s Spider-Man + spectacular Spider-Man were my childhood and the only two good cartoon TV series adaptations of Spiderman
Alternate Title: "Another reason why Spectacular Spiderman is a perfect Spiderman adaptation"
Man, I wish the spectacular spider-man never got cancelled. Literally my favorite Spider-man
This Show Is SO Underrated for what it's accomplished, these references are just crazy. Well Done!👏🏽👏🏽
The roars sync perfectly at 7:19 and 7:23
Spectacular Spider-man honestly took the best parts of the films and comics while doing its own thing with some characters like Venom, Tombstone, etc. Honestly it is probably one of the best interpretations of spiderman
I think The Spectacular Spider-Man was pretty much the raimi trilogy inspired cartoon if it has this many references in it.
Man, Mad respect to both of this masterpieces.
Holy crap! I never realize that. They put all the movies in one show!
This is why the PS4 Spider-Man game is so awesome. It takes storylines from the rami trilogy, mcu movies, and even the TASM movies. It improves on all of them too
But there's one thing that Spider-Man doesn't have that spectacularly Bully Maguire 😎
Loved the references to the raimi movies. Each one made me gasp
It’s too bad we don’t get many kids shows like this anymore
Cierto , recuerdo con cariño los dibujos animados como este , hora de aventura , o un show más
We have alot of great animated shows since this released, though.
So best screen Spider-Man + best animated spiderman
This is the best Spider-Man cartoon
Man I miss spectacular spider man
What GREAT about this show is that this show is a MIX of the Sam Raimi Trilogy and the Ultimate Spider-Man comics
More of a mix from the Lee and Ditko comic books instead of The ultimate
@Brandon Brooks Well yes, you're right, but I mean that as a whole it takes more things from Ditko/Lee than from the Ultimate comics, but they have some similarities and references as you said
imagine being inside of the skyscrapers when Peter lands on them to look at his reflection lol
Never seen this show before but this instantly made of my favorite Spider-Man show. Paying tribute to the only Spider-Man I’ll acknowledge. About to start watching it
This series was perfect❤
When someone brings a universe to life it really becomes a foundation many other ideas will come from. Directors were influenced by comic drawings. They bring those to life and influence writers to create even bigger stories which then influences others and so on. And don’t forget it’s the combined imagining of all involved in the process that brought the Tobey-verse to life. It’s lightning in a bottle.
Plot twist:the peter Parker in spectacular spider man is actual Sam raimis spider man
What?
I watched raimi's spiderman so much that I knew all of those specific scenes in spectacular spider man came from the movies.
Nice to see the animated series have handwritten scenes that reanimates the movie’s famous scenes
Although treating Peter like shit, Jameso really a good guy when didn't ratting Peter out to Goblin and Rhino. He wanted to protect his worker.
It's like a live action to animation adaptation!
This is basically an alternative version of the Rami Verse but created not only a alternative universe but a brand new spider man with different motives
4:00 this is perfect
I love how Spectacular's Green Goblin has the same exact voice and facial structure as Transformers: Prime's Starscream
They share the same voice actor, Steve Blum, and he does fantastic as both.
There is one more during the first Sandman fight in Spectacular. Spidey is hitted and he immediatly counters with a punch , that's the same as when Black Spiderman counters Sandman during the Subway fight
Literally it’s if the Spider-Man trilogy was a TV show instead and I love it!
This cartoon definitely got most inspiration from sam raimi.
Uh no
3:03 this upside down moment with the black suit was 1st portrayed in the 1994 animated series, so it's a reference of a reference..
Spectacular is the best series of spider-man for me :)
I don't know if it was homage so much as the animators using the Raimi films as a reference.
I still feel bad for peter in the end of spectacular spiderman.. he win as spiderman to green goblin and killed him now harry hates him and gwen needs to be in harry side for a long time.. sometimes its really hard to be spidey..
I guess no one cares anymore about the differences between: references, influences and similarities
The best Spider-Men in history are similar in some many amazing ways
Spectacular spider Man is hands down the best animated series IMO
The intro song is so good to
You forgot Venom on the wall and speaking deals reference.
Loving the fact that this is just PART 1😍😍
I consider both canon to each other like spectacular spider is an alternate timeline of the raimi-verse
These two are the two best spideys you can criticize because the 60s show is too perfect to criticize
I'm so happy the Spectacular Spider-Man got back to NETFLIX in December.
