sadly this is the last video me and my friend watched and the last thing I remember doing with my friend(learning this song from yall with him ) before he killed himself this video gave me the most memorable moment with him
Sorry man. But remember you can always play this song for him and remember the good times
@@OK-hw9fl yeah I learned it for him a week ago on guitar and learned it on drums 2 days ago... it is such an amazing song this band made him really happy
Battlefield noob glad to hear man. Stay strong
So sorry to hear that. It is nice to know we were able to provide you with a pleasant memory. I hope you're doing ok. Let us know if you need o talk, we're around (and sorry for taking a while to see this comment!
@@ThePigeonPack thank you so much... I'm glad we got to enjoy this video and learn from it. midwest emo / math rock made him so happy and he loved the hell out of this song so think you both for taking the time to make this video
The fucking best teaching of a song on the internet I've seen yet.
This is extraordinarily flattering!!
HONESTLY 😤🔥👌 y’all really put yourselves into every video

Can you guys please do more of these? This is literally the best guitar tutorial available on the internet
E Hoppz thank you so much!!!! We have done a couple more since then and would absolutely love to do to more, but they’re def big productions (for us) so we often just psych ourselves out of doing more 😔. If you have any requests though, please let us know! This is some pretty wonderful motivation 🙂
This is the most wholesome tutorial I’ve ever seen
I'll listen to whatever I want to, mom! 😇
Mike's tuning is FCCACF and Steve's FACGCE... During live performances, the band usually plays a half step down from their normal tuning. Good variation anyway. :)
JP Dorato you're totally right! we recorded a whole part where we went in depth about the timings, but seeing as this video is already a disgusting 35 minutes without that, we cut it.
The basic gist being we decided to play it all in the same tuning because:
-the differences are pretty minimal in our eyes, you can effectively play the part just as easily still
-if you're playing with someone, the two of you may want to switch parts, since the opening riff gets kind of repetitive
-if you're playing alone, you'd probably want to be able to play some mix of both parts
-people may not own a capo, or may just be getting into alternate tunings, and having to do two for one song may be daunting
But yea, we're totally fine with being labeled technically wrong, and probably should've left some small bit of the clarification in the video!
I love how long and in depth this is and not just a quick 5 minute tutorial that leaves you with so many questions. Thanks so much for this guys!
We're glad you found it helpful! We definitely tried to be as in-depth as we could be!
literally have no clue how to change the tuning so whats the point
This is seriously amazing, I can’t believe such an accurate, in-depth tutorial even exists! I honestly love this song so much so it means a lot that you guys took the time to do this
Just wanted to come back and say I started learning this yesterday!! I’m learning the part for the main voice of the song and I’ve caught on really quickly thank to you. I just need to work on picking it at the actual speed played💞
You guys made my day. Not only because you taught me the song, but because of how patient and kind you are. That’s exactly what I needed. Thank you so much!
This is such a wholesome and lighthearted tutorial. Thank you so much!!!
I stumbled across this video and I love the patience and kindness in both of there voices. It comes off as just 2 people who just really love music. I love this lesson!
Kinda just stumbled upon this video, didn't think I was ready to play something like this yet but you guys make it so easy. Definitely gonna save this and work on this song now. Cool dudes!
Joey Sokolowski Were so glad we’ve been able to help!! Anything is possible :))
This is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you so much guys
Will Smith thank you for appreciating it!! Hope it helps!
will smith has a math rock band with jaden
Thanks for saving our lives with this tutorial!
Thanks so much for the video! Love your basement you guys are peak midwest and seem chill af, subscribed. keep it up kings
What a lovely room mates! That room makes me feel like im in my childhood and trying to make my own home out of some pillows and stuff wow :)
AWESOME, I wish a drum version of this sort of video existed.
I can make one. You want?
math rock is same difficult as math at school
Rinoarashi except it’s worth learning
@@user-sw2dm2hl4f for sure lol
Its not if u practice it often i bought guitar like 3months ago and this song is pretty easy for me
@@garnas1003 duh, that's the whole point of practicing lol
@@garnas1003 except idk how to even fucking tune tp these alternate tuning and no one shows how
thanks for this tutorial video !!!!
Great video. Always wanted to try this with a loop pedal.
I'm honestly very interested in that. Let me know how it goes!
This is great! Thank you so much!
Astro Pop we're glad you like it!! Hope it's helpful!!
Absolutely brilliant video. Do you have all of your tabs in one place?
I really enjoyed it, like I'm some of your buddy and you invited me along to learn the song. Also for what to do with the pick, the pickguard usually is really useful to fit it on the edge between it and the body.
Weee I'm so glad you enjoyed it!! Also that's a pretty great idea, whatever works for you!
Best tutorial in the world~!
Great video, guys :)
happy new year me crying 😢 can’t believe this song so old
jacob bruce new year old tunes
Perfeito, parabéns rapaziada 👏👏
Muito obrigado!
i don't play guitar idk why i'm watchingthis but i enjoy it and it also stresses me out
This rules on so many levels
This gives me serotonin
💆💆💆
Cool tip: if you can't stretch your finger from the 4th fret of the low E to the 1st fret of the high e(like how i can't), you can replace whenever the 4th fret low E is played with the open A string.
(do know that the low end will sound more muddier when doing this.)
Thanks dudes👍🏻🤘🏻
you're very welcome!
You guys are rad
THANK YOU
It's Lightning no problem at all!!!
The fact that youve got the same guitar as me makes this video even greater. thankssssss
You picked a dern good guitar!!!
Do you just have the raw tab?
learned this soo fucking fast thanks guys..10 minutes of practice and i can play this right along with the song
Thaaaaaanks a lot, i really need the second guitar
so wholesome ughh
you guys play that song so fucking good great video ( i want to learn how to play that)
i love you
Alec McGrory we love you more :)
THERES ALWAYS MONEY IN THE BANANA STAND
💪😤
@@ThePigeonPack no touching no touching
T-bone was always a flamer
Very thorough lesson. Does this mean I have to tune the e string one half step higher?
Yep, you got it!
What about the tuning? Isn't IT any different?
you guys are so fucking cool
Hey can somebody please elaborate on the main riff I can't quite get the up and down strum right (i'm also very new to guitar but i really wanna learn this song)
the bishop of bath and wells what about the strumming is messing you up?
A couple of tips that may or may not help:
-you can start off by doing all down strumming to get the pattern and then working your way toward alternate picking
-play it slower than you can bear . Slower than that! And concentrate on each movement and how it flows
1:27 I play it slowly where you can see what string I’m playing
Hey guys, where can I find the drum backing track?
tabit.net
Most of the parts can be played just as easily with a capo on the fifth fret if you don't want to fuck up your standard tuning.
Christian is soooo cutee
Nice velvet underground shirt
u are so fucking lovable guys
What’s the time signature for the intro?
Daft Doggo 6:4
Cool vid. It’s a tad strange that you did right hand and then skipped to later parts before showing the left hand...but cool, thanks for the lesson!
Yeah my bad! It was my first time editing such a long video and I either:
a) missed it completely or
b) saw it, didn’t care, didn’t think the video would get enough views that it would be captured....
I am happily wrong and mistaken lol I’m glad people have been able to find it
thaaaaaaaaaaanks!!!!
no tabs for main riff?
it's at 3:49!
15:20 im actually about to sprain my wrist playing this, i swear to god.
Hazel ⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻ that part is honestly pretty killer. My hands are juuuust big enough to do it without hating myself
@@ThePigeonPack "whats that technique you're using?"
me: "oh, do you guys not put your hand *over* the fretboard?"
What guitars y’all have?
We both have epiphone les pauls, I (banana guy) have a standard, which in this video has been modded with an xtrem whammy (we’ve got a video on that if you’re interested). I’ve also since switched out the pickups. Christian (non banana guy) has a pro, which I believe the major feature is that there’s a switch so you can change the pickups to act as either humbuckers or single coils
The Pigeon Pack idk what’s that lol
i would love to see one for Cinco De Mayo Shit Show by Marietta. same tuning
god i love that song, i might have to try
@@ThePigeonPack sick!!
You can clearly see on any live footage that Mike doesn’t play it like this. The best tuning I’ve seen is DAAF#AD.
You're absolutely right fooutoo. Here's what we wrote in another comment about this:
we recorded a whole part where we went in depth about the tunings, but seeing as this video is already a disgusting 35 minutes without that, we cut it.

Hey, it's great to put something so detailed together, so kudos for that.
I can appreciate and get the reasons stated, I just actually haven't seen a tab or video that documents how Mike plays the song is all. The tuning is also a massive pain when playing too parts - agreed :)
@@fooutoo it sounds like the real deal so what's the problem
@@anuvette depends how much of a purest you are. you can play songs in a different key too if you want, but if you're looking to play it how the artist does then for some people that matters.
Banana guy plays fingerstyle i like the sound of that
Tuning?
We played both parts in FACGCE
@@ThePigeonPack are you tuning up to F on the low E? it doesn't sound crazy down tuned? I haven't strayed far from standard tbh and don't know much about alternate/open tuning
Do if I sit still maybe I'll get out of Herr by ttng
Honestly since the creation of this video I've been slowly working on 26 is dancier than 4, trying to get myself up to speed properly and hating every moment that I fail lmao. I wonder if that song is easier! I'll have to give it a go...
Update: it's actually coming along! A couple more days making sure I've got everything right and we can get to filming this! Hopefully the editing process isn't miserable
Hey Steven! We done did the thing ruclips.net/video/DVSsHCA1aTs/видео.html
I am reasonably certain they play it in standard no ?
They don't! In fact I'd love to play it in standard but you really need those open ringing notes for the sound of the song
The guys here use the tuning that AF uses.
I just fingerpick it. It's way more fun
Nothin wrong with havin fun!!
Ye 100 comment
wait, where are the Telecasters?!
ScruffyTusks we cried all over them so they’re all rusty :(
@@ThePigeonPack lmao
My biggest pet pee. People referring to a string by the note instead of 1st or 3rd string "On the B string" there is no B string in FACGCE lolz.
Or with a capo that changes all the notes.
Why do guitarist do that?
Since EADGBE is the standard tuning, most guitarists understand this configuration. Meanwhile, not every guitarist learns the order of the numbering of strings, so from guitarist to guitarist, using standard tuning becomes the easiest way to communicate, which then becomes the habit.
I will admit if I had said “on the b string” when I instead had the 6th string tuned to b for example , that could cause some unnecessary confusion. But I don’t think it would be worth getting upset over if the verbiage was changed, in that scenario to something like “what is usually our b string”, or if in context it was clear,” which string, if someone felt most comfortable speaking like that.
I would also argue that a capo should have no bearing on the name of the strings as the string itself is still tuned to whatever it’s tuned to, you’ve just put a big finger across your strings
I can like. Not play this with a pick and I don’t know why LOL
It's a tough song! Ya just gotta keep practicing, start slow. But I assume this means you can play it without a pick which is impressive in its own right!
Haha yeah, i learned it without the pick first! Thanks!
Cutie pies
Zachary PASCAUD :> no you are
Sadly impossible without an amp
I cant fucking do it
Which part is messing with ya?
Where’s the part where your girlfriend breaks up with you and you cry profusely...
At least thats what I hear when I hear the song
For real tho good tutorial
that part just can't be taught
not too clear
Cool video, but this gay guy got some rich parents playing a les in the garage
miah lash lmfaooooo Issa epiphone tho
Why are you guys playing this on Les Pauls? 😅 lol jk
how else would we play this hard rock classic? 🤣
This video isn't very informative, nor is it efficient in explaining how to play.
0 6 I feel I should mention there are quite a few people in this comment section who feel otherwise, BUT that does not mean it’s the right teaching style for you. We’d like to be accessible for all, so I would love to hear your thoughts on ways we could improve
If you want to play like the recording you should quit watching these guys, no offence tho
