That was gorgeous! This composer deserves to be much better known. Her melodies and fascinating counterpoint are just amazing. And the orchestra play the whole piece beautifully, with superb phrasing and dynamics... thanks so much for this excellent video.

Unpopular opinion, but I prefer this symphony to Farrenc's 3rd. Especially the last movement with that majestic opening which anticipates the Allegro's theme and then the fugue section is astonishing, but all of the movements are really crafted well.
Great that Farrenc's symphonies finally get the interpretations they deserve after centuries of neglect, not just some half-baked CD recordings with second-rate orchestras playing in concert halls with cathedral-like echoes that blurr everything of interest. This production is so incredibly wonderful, so transparent, you can hear everything quite well, all the little nuances, especially in the delicate woodwind parts that seemed to be so near and dear to her heart.

This is a wonderful performance and love this symphony of Farrenc! Have listened to it before but only on audio. Nothing like a live performance!

I was interested to see that 'period' instruments were being used throughout: pre-Boehm wooden flutes, oboes and clarinets and bassoons with very few keys, natural horns and even, if I am not mistaken, trumpets with slides instead of valves. (Valved horns and trumpets did exist in 1845, but Farrenc's handling of the brass and her way of notating their parts show that she had the natural instruments in mind.) All the more credit to the players for their combination of precision and enthusiasm.

I wish the day had come when it was irrelevant that Farrenc was a woman, but alas, that day has not yet arrived. Beautifully scored symphony.

This symphony is the "sunny side" of an awesome woman composer who loved also the shadows of the minor mode. She is more or less a follower of Mozart and Beethoven in that respect. Note also the instrumental virtuosity, from a woman who had no practical experience of the orchestra in that "machist" century !!!!!

One factor which really aids this performance is that the orchestra is playing on historically appropriate instruments, which lets Farrenc's marvelous sense of orchestral color shine in all its glory.

Music for no purpose. Total vacuum. No originality. An AI could create this from existing symphonies.

Qué osado, en qué te basas? ten un poco de criterio, hombre, tu comentario resulta en mi opinión grosero e irrespetuoso y, sobre todo, injusto.
