I really like the teaching style that you use, your videos are very well though out and the examples make total sense… my problem is that my brain is “oh yes we got this” … but my feet are like “what?”
My wife and I have been skating for only 5 months now. We've found your videos the best to take tips from to help aid in our skating journey! Thanks so much from Kylie and Nick all the way from New Zealand.
Love your channel! I started skating less than a year ago and just found this the week I started on spins, it was so useful. I did a couple of full spins by the end of the class, so happy about it. :D Definitely gonna share it with my classmates, your teaching style is great and you make everything so clear, love it. And I definitely prefer spinning the same direction as you. :D
I used to roller skate in the 80s as a teenager, especially after watching the movie Xanadu. I remember spinning and jumping.I was a good skater. I have been skating again for the past 6 months; however, I skate gingerly and have not tried spinning. I am 57 and I am scared stiff of falling and hurting myself. So, I just skate and still have fun.
The reality of a injury when we're older can definitely slow us down. Make sure you're fully safety geared up and you'll find your confidence in no time. Have fun! I need to go and listen to Olivia NJ now!
Your tips and the amount of detail are a game changer! My spins haven't really progressed since I began trying them so can't wait to give these tips a try 🙌
Clockwise!! Yes, one of chosen few! ( me to) The knee bending was a revelation. I never knew what made my spin travel. Granted it was on ice but I'm sure it's the same result. Thanks again Skatie.
Hi! These tutorials are great I have been trying to get better at skating after seeing the starlight express and these videos are very helpful thank you
Your videos are the best I’ve found on RUclips. Truly well done! You get right to the lesson without a bunch of banter and such. It’s quite refreshing, and your teaching style makes this very simple to understand. I practice almost every day to get better. 😊 I’m progressing quickly thanks to your videos!
You do such an excellent job with wording and the actions. I was doing some indoor drilling today shocked how blank my brain went. Stumbled on your channel and subscribed!
Fantastic. Thank you. I know what you mean with going blank it can be hard to think of what or how to practice. Sometimes writing out a plan of things you’d like to improve or learn can help. Or just watch a video and follow along to practice x. Most importantly have fun on your skating journey x
I’ll try it soon I hope! I’m going to artistic skating lessons (2 so far), with the intention of improving my confidence by improving my technical skills mostly, but also because any excuse to skate! Perhaps I’ll progress enough to spin!
@@Skatie I started in artistic when I was 15 or so back in the 1970’s! After the 100th time falling on my coccyx I put skateboard wheels on my skates and became a street skater! I stopped when I met my husband at the beginning of the 80’s and I have had to start from scratch. I’m sorry I didn’t keep skating then but I’m glad I found it again. I’m progressing slowly and loving every bit.
This is so helpful. I can't get more than one full spin - hopefully this helps. I just wish I could save this video into a playlist so it's easier to find! There is only the option to "like" and share. :(
Hope it helps with you spin. I couldn’t find ‘add to playlist’ either but clicking “save” gives the option of adding to a playlist. Hopefully that works for you too.
The momentum and balance when you go into a spin is key also open your arms up wider first keep upper body relaxed don’t try to hard after a few rotations you’ll find sweet spot most I did once was 30 because I relaxes and let wheels do the work it does take time don’t do it when your tired ! It will come
The trouble with outside is for rolling you’ll need a softer wheel but for the tricks you’ll find it easier in a harder wheel. I use my 84a outside I do turns etc in them and they’re ok. I’d give your outdoor wheels a try first see how you get on.
For spinning there is a sweet spot, if the trucks are too tight the spin won't happen but if they're too loose it will make it harder as the skate will be too hard to control and the edge will be so deep you fall off it. Make slow adjustments and make sure to watch my video on truck adjustment as you may benefit from softer cushions too.
Any more tips on not toppling over while spinning? I find it hard to stay upright while spinning, I feel like I'm losing my balance when I bring my limbs tight together
Are you using the Roll-Line Dance Roller Skate Plate? If so how do you like it? I was thinking about that set up with my Riedell 336 boots that I’m ordering
💯 backwards is definitely tricky and looking behind is a skill in itself. Can you get a friend to help spot for you so you can concentrate on getting one thing at a time.
I do find that my weight goes slightly more into the right foot when I spin but you can keep the weight quite central if you prefer. As long as you get the heel toe and the pull of the feet to get momentum.
I have a question what are the difference between pro roller skates and beginners roller skates how do I know witch on is witch? I can’t wait to be really good like you!
It’s mainly the construction and the quality of the components. For example beginner skates will often have bolt on toe stops more quality skates will have an adjustable toe stop. Metal alloy trucks rather than plastic, leather boots with multiple layers rather than vinyl etc. However, as a new skater there are beginner skates that meet some of this criteria without having to purchase pro skates for ££££.
I feel like it I move my body to turn, my feet don't follow. And if I can get my feet to turn, my body doesn't follow. Also, without a bend in my knees I feel at risk of falling over. Clearly I'm a beginner wanting to do the hard stuff before the easier stuff!
Definitely! Hard wheels and a smooth surface make spinning much easier. Outside spinning with softer wheels will need a smaller contact area so lifting the wheels more to the heel toe will help.
I really like the teaching style that you use, your videos are very well though out and the examples make total sense… my problem is that my brain is “oh yes we got this” … but my feet are like “what?”
Thank you. Haha I totally understand what you mean! Keep practicing, you’ll get there.
I’m glad I’m not the only one!
Exactly this!

Hi! These tutorials are great I have been trying to get better at skating after seeing the starlight express and these videos are very helpful thank you
Omg! Starlight express is just 💕💕💕. I watched the original back in the 90’s and wore out the cassette tape of the songs! 😂 🦖
Great tips on how to do the spins. More practice, the better you'll get.
Thank you. Great advice on the practice too.
It's hard but this has helped alot, I'll keep practicing but I get dizzy so fast :( By far this is the best tutorial I've seen on spins :D
Thank you so much. Dizzy is definitely a spin problem. I started feeling quite 🤢 whilst filming this. 😂

Oh thank you. You’re very kind xx 🛼
I've been trying to spin for weeks and I'm finding it soooo hard to pick up 😭😭 hope I can get it soon.
It’s a really hard skill to master. Don’t be hard on yourself. You’ll get there.

Which is better wheel for spinning in out door, 85 A or 95 A....? 🤔can u plss tell.. ✨

Think about staying nice and straight and tall, channel your inner ballerina.🩰🤪
Good video ! Please do a video on foot spin. Thank you !

Yes I am. Good spot! They are such a nice plate! I highly recommend them.
@@Skatie great thank you!
This was so helpful. I'm not there yet at all but I did a couple spins without freaking out. 😅
Well done. Spinning is one of the hardest things to do on skates it will take time. Sounds like you’ve made a great start already.
@@Skatie I still come back to this video when practicing. I'm up to two spins. 😅 I decided to practice in between other easier moves.
@@bette1336 well done!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️That’s exactly how I learn the tricky stuff too, perfect. Hope you’re having fun.
You look so cute spinning, Katie!
😎🤩
I favor my right side, but am also blind in my right eye. Backwards is difficult.
💯 backwards is definitely tricky and looking behind is a skill in itself. Can you get a friend to help spot for you so you can concentrate on getting one thing at a time.
I love your explanations ♥ im still struggling with the fear of falling backwards while spinning :D
Those backwards falls are always horrid xx. 💕⭐️
Is the weight supposed to go on your foot that is on your toes or on your heels?
I think it’s heel but not sure
I do find that my weight goes slightly more into the right foot when I spin but you can keep the weight quite central if you prefer. As long as you get the heel toe and the pull of the feet to get momentum.

Hope it helps your skating journey x 💕🤩😎
What weels you use in the rollerskates?
These wheels are super old so I’m not sure they are available any more they’re Bioani Star HD80. An old Italian made figure skating wheel.
@@Skatie thanks🥰🥰
I to remember to tighten my core and lift up
Definitely think lift lift lift. Get that pull in of the feet and you’ll spin for days.
its hard but ill keep practicing tysm
Spins are one of the hardest skills to unlock. Be patient with yourself xx
I am also cw
⏰ 👯♀️💕💕💕
Hi Katie, do you also have a video on barrel roll
Hi. I’m afraid I don’t. I definitely need to do some more dancing 💃 b place moves.
I feel like it I move my body to turn, my feet don't follow. And if I can get my feet to turn, my body doesn't follow. Also, without a bend in my knees I feel at risk of falling over. Clearly I'm a beginner wanting to do the hard stuff before the easier stuff!
Spinning is so hard. Make sure you’ve got edges and manuals unlocked before you start spinning. This will really help speed up your progress.
@@Skatie thanks SO much! I love your videos and find them to helpful, and you've got an awesome sense of humour too, I'm always laughing!
I feel like I'm doing something wrong bc when i stand straight i fall back.
Ensure to keep the weight on the heel toe, usually if you’re falling backwards the weight needs to be more towards the toes.
those brits are mad with their fixation on safety. looks so funny and silly to the rest of us how you are in full gear in a protected environment
If skaters see me wearing all my safety gear then hopefully they won’t be too embarrassed to wear their safety gear too!
Get a life :)
"The rest of us" Just you bud
Cheating hard wheels, surface
Definitely! Hard wheels and a smooth surface make spinning much easier. Outside spinning with softer wheels will need a smaller contact area so lifting the wheels more to the heel toe will help.
