  • Dams have been around for millions of years, helping humanity control the resources around us. Now they are masterpieces of engineering, with the biggest structure on earth being a dam. But doing something mini has the same merit as doing it at a large scale. And here we bring you three examples. Watch this review of three amazing mini dams and tell us what you think. Enjoy!

Fantastic fantastic stuff, both the meticulousness of the build and the visuals and explanations. There are a few benefits of dams and a few negatives of river generators that are ignored. A dam benefits by storing water above it, and therefore increasing the flow (and electrical output) through the dam. The river generator, while effective at an individual level, if implemented at a city level, would not only affect flow but would heat the water high enough that oxygen is no longer saturated ...resulting in dead fish and dead plantation. No matter how you do something, there will be negative impacts that have to be adjusted for.

I liked this video just a few inquires though. Why did you use straight impeller blades vs the more efficient pelton curve blades or impulse impeller design? also you have an open core around the shaft vs a filled/walled space around it to prevent the water from dropping through the core and essentially creating drag on the rising blades. Was this intentional? The input jet is also offset from the outflow plane. It seems like the jet would be better in plane with the outflow, was there a reason for this? I liked the mini dams, they were very cool. My personal favorite is the kaplan axial since you can split off small overflow dams 1-2 meters in height and return the flow back to the main body for local power without adversely affecting wildlife
