Good review, and I appreciate that you can comment on an entrance level whisky. Great location. I love shooting outside, and I'm glad you could do it with your family
Thanks a lot :) Location is indeed great, whisky tastes even better in the woods :) Some of these entry levels got me into whisky, so I believe they deserve to be commented on :)
Way to go Philip! Nothing like enjoying a dram in the woods. And it is stunningly beautiful where you are at :) And thanks for the shout-out of course :)
thank you! Oh no problem, after all You guys kind of inspired me to film in the woods :) And it definetly wasn't for the last time - the whisky tastes better and the enviroment is just so relaxing.
its not terrible, definitely doesnt have the nail polish notes of walker red, but it is kinda weak tasting - initially very fruity and floral and toffee-like and pleasant, but unfortunately dissipates quite quickly. good for the price, but i would still go for a bottle of jameson instead, packs a better punch for the buck
I used to have ballantines as my house whisky, but as my palate developed with better quality whiskey I couldn't drink it anymore. The butterscotch was too overpowering and it's just tasted bland. I started putting a splash of laphroaig in each dram to make it better so I could kill the bottle. I'll never buy another bottle again.
If you go Laphroaig you can't go back. I first tried Laphroaig 10 yo the 43 abv south African version here in Casablanca Morocco three years ago and since then even decent malts like glenfiddich solera reserve 15 up seems to be inferior to that pitted sweet malt of Laphroaig
I don't really like the glenfi 15 solera either - i think the 12 and 18 are much better. But it does get a little more complex after being open for a while.
Whisky Impressions Ah, good luck with the house renovations. When you come to planning your trip in the future give me a shout if you need any tips or recommendations. Cheers!
How could you miss the vanilla, not to mention the oak? This scotch is one of the best blended whiskies by far. I realise the Czech culture is still stuck in consumerist phase, 30 years isn't that long, so you foolishly imagine price to be a major determinant of quality. Some of us much prefer the complex flavours of a good blend to the frequently overbearing yet strangely anodyne taste of single malts which cost many times more. The Ballantines fingerprint malt dominates of course but the others blend in to complement it & each other. The citrus taste, that which you incorrectly attributed to ethanol, is brought into the mix by a 'lesser' whiskey. the Ballantine's oak flavour is there because the blenders are careful not to use casks too often or for too long. Three years in a fresh (less that 4 times used) cask far surpasses 12 years in a 5 times (60 years old cask) I'm not surprised to see an immature palate missing important aspects, but I am disappointed at the didactic tone of your review. A man who is too certain learns nothing.
I have to agree with the reviewer here! Last week I bought a bottle. Remember it being decent and used to drink it a lot as a teenager. Well ... it is not! My gf sipped once and refused to finish her glass. The ethanol taste is really dominant as discussed in the review. Might have been a bad batch as I bought it on really good discount for only 9E. At least now I have something for mixing whisky sours :)
Ballantine is a good whisky at low price here in italy
I like this whisky with 3 ice cubes, just right.
Dry ginger ale also, but with ice to not have as much sugar

Fun review. Love a outside review. Still not tried much blended whisky. I've heard the Ballantines 17 is good stuff.
thanks, it was fun to do :)
I've had ballantines once, at a family party: they had very little else. I thought it was quite nice with the meal!
Great video mate. Love the Czech republic. Amazing country and people. Keep up the good work
The outdoor environment suits you well! You look comfy in the tree ☺
I felt great too :) It is a unique experience to taste whisky in the nature.
It’s decent good for the price, although I’ve had some bad batches... I remember it being worse, but quite good lately.
I was expecting worse from what I heard :)
In my opinion, it's good, but not outstanding.

haha yeah, I will also not be buying this again, I was so glad my family had it so I could review it :D

Is this strong whiskey? Thank you for the answer
It's a soft easy starter , just try it ! :)
Yes
Hope its wont disappoint me... i buyed one of this today
Did you like it ? You cannot expect much from that price point, but it is a good way to find out if you like a little smoke in your whisky
Have you ever visited Scotland (where I'm from) and done a distillery tour? (Apologies if you've mentioned it and I missed it)
not yet, but I definetly will, most likely next year :) (this year we will be reconstructing a house so all money and time will be there)

mix of 50 whiskey
なかなか面白いじゃん^ ^
I don’t like it at all. I got an opened bottle and I just don’t want to drink it.
Haha, maybe just put it in coke or rob roy or something like that :)
Yeah, me too! I can't understand why everybody seems to be so satisfied with it.
That's why you should never buy an opened bottle! Maybe it's not even Ballantines what was in it.
привет из России))
