After watching this video I saw that my Ardbeg 10 was down to 20% of the bottle...so I added Ballentine back up to the neck....Holy smokes!!!! It’s like I got a free bottle of Ardbeg. It softened the peat just a bit and kept that great Ardbeg flavor on the finish. Thank you for doing this video. ✌🏻
I had one of those cocktails, without the fire, at the Fort in Red Rocks, Denver. The wait staff was concerned my glass was TOO CLOSE to the candles. It was good.

Just an average Scotch. But the reviews have come a long way in six years. Love you guys, keep up the good work.
Ive got an old unopened bottle of ballentines scotch from the 1950s. I had two, but drank one. Very smooth. But is the remaining bottle worth selling, if so where.
I just bought a bottle of this scotch. I hope its good then again if its similar to Johnny walker black i won't be disappointed. Only cost me $28 at my local ABC liquors.
17 year 😁! I noticed a 7.3 octomore on the shelf of said BBQ/whisky joint in Seattle, but not the menu, and asked about it (wife is a big fan). The manager is a big whisky geek and we got to talking at length. evidently they do a half priced whisky Wednesday which we missed. my wife turned on the charm (the true mooch of the story) and the manager came back with a pour of the Octo and the signatory on the house. totally cool place,. but there's probably better BBQ to be had. surprisingly there are a few good options for Texas style (the king of BBQ styles) in Seattle. also, a shit ton of whisky tasting/trade events. I bet it has something to do with the dark rainy winters
I'm headed to Seattle in a week. Was it Bourbon and Bones by any chance? Anywhere else in Seattle you recommend for scotch? Or for anything else, for that matter.
Brad Whittington bourbon and bones, whisky west, the whisky bar, radiator whisky, kickin boot whisky kitchen, barrel thief. Westland is a fun one to check out. lots and lots of breweries too. check out the downtown area & pike place, maybe Fremont/Ballard, a park or 2 (discovery/Seward), maybe a ferry ride. eat some seafood. have fun in the rain 😁
I have been watching the more current episodes but I had to to the archives to find this because I just opened a bottle of Ballantine's finest I got as a gift. I was hoping that Daniel would mention or at least speculate about the major components of the blend. No luck there, but I did discover that Rex used to look like he had or at least could obtain a job.
I almost thought I missed the actual review of the Ballantine's but then after rewatching I realized this was a review of the cocktail the mullet, Ballantine with a splash of Laphroaig.
My Dad had this on his bar in the 60's. It's still good. So many other good and great ones now. Local liq store in San Diego had a SPEYBURN 10 year 1.75L for $24,.. 02/10/21.
@@groberti its a great everyday sipper, especially if you dont want something sophisticated but just something to take the edge off on a friday night, its also a great mixer especially for a whisky sour.
Been a hardcore whiskey drinker for over 25 years, and for the price u can't beat Ballantines. I was genuinely shocked that for $28 for 1.75 liters this whisky didn't taste like absolute shit compared to other more expensive Speysides like Macallan. I used to drink bourbon like Evan Williams Bottled in Bond when I didn't want to spend much, but I will be buying this whisky from now on. I feel so dumb because I consider the taste of bourbon inferior to a good single malt, and for the last 25 years there had been a Scottish whisky very tasty at the same price
I went with Rex's suggestion and made a blend. I used Bowmore 12 instead of Laphroaig. I agree with the assessment of it being Ballantines on the nose. Definitely Bowmore on the finish. But the oils really coat the mouth. Can't decide if I like that. I've tried a lot of the tricks that you guys have discussed in past videos to open the whiskey and try to pick apart it's complexity, but when it comes to the palate, is there a way to train that? I 've read that you can wait for a familiar scent or flavor, but whether I'm drinking Famous Grouse or Glenmorangie, I just taste whiskey.
We'll chat about this in the next round of videos. The short answer is, practice and repetition. No way around it ;-), but at least it's the best kind of homework.
Great idea to blend cheap blended whisky! While watching this video I poured Lauder's 12 (another cheap blended whisky) over Ballantine's (cheaper blend) with a dash (or more) of Agwa (that's all I got from my cabinet, other than that Capt. Morgan) . Quite tasty. Thanks for your idea. Subscribed.
if you were thinking why the heck I got myself all the cheap stuff, I got no money. But I am grateful that I can still afford a drink or two every night.
@@doomsafri73 I am holding a bottle of Ballantines for 6 years. It was my prized possesion but I will just drink it on this new years eve. I am sick of beers.
i thought chivas regal was the no. 1 seller still. i know ballantines is not far behind but chivas is definitely the blend id go with if someone asked me whats the most known/bought
I've heard about that gunpowder thing, but with aguardiente. Supposedly, chilean soldiers during the "Guerra del Pacifico" would drink it before going into battle and they'd go berserk, it's called "Chupilca del Diablo", probably a myth, but that's what they say at least
"Chupilca" by the way is a drink made by mixing red wine and "harina tostada", which is a kind of flour made with roasted grains, "Chupilca del Diablo" would translate to "The Devil's Chupilca"
Ballentines is “budget” to you, but in shanghai, boy its NOT. Top shelf there, along with jack, beam, johnny and chivas. Of course you can actually get real top shelf, but you just mosey on down to your non-cityshop (its a chain) store and try your luck. And no boutique shops in french concession, thats cheating
This stuff turned me off to scotch for over 10 years. The story goes myself, 1 bottle of Ballantine's scotch being drunk by an inexperienced younger me, outside of a party, at a Mexican restaurant, throwing up for an hour = me not looking at scotch for 10 years, until one fateful day when my close friend put a glass of Laphroaig in my hand, and i had a "holy shit what have i been missing" moment.. Still don't think i would want to try this mix ;)

I used to think that whiskey is a disgusting overhyped concoction and drinking it made no sense to me. That was based on the fact that the only whisky I knew was Ballantine's (#1 in Europe - if it's #1, it MUST be good, right?). Until the day my friend offered me Jameson's Christmas special batch. I was amazed that whisky is actually good and realized I just dislike the taste of Ballantine's. Now I don't know the specific reasons for this, but I was hoping you could know what's happening here and point me in the direction of whiskys that share that Ballantine's traits (so I can avoid them). For comparisons, 10$ whiskys (100 pipers and such) taste better than that aforementioned monstrosity. Thanks in advance.

The pour on the 1.75 liter is awesome. This is super smooth. Great mixer and it’s not bad to drink straight either. I keep it on hand as a well scotch. But I was able to purchase a 1.75 liter of this on sale at my local grocery or $26 which is abt $6 cheaper than a 750ml of JWB.
