    This bottle is like the king of whisky in Vietnam for the decent price and the mellow flavor are perfect for a tropical country.

      Thank you for your comment! Interesting to hear how such a humble whisky travels so far. I can definitely see how it would go well with a tropical climate. Cheers!

    Howdy, Brother! I appreciate your time and effort reviewing this affordable gem. If you're ever riding through Texas, I'll treat you to an opulent combo: Fried Catfish, Hushpuppies and Ballantine's!

      Hi Robert! Sounds like a good combo (although I did have to look up what Hushpuppies are!). Thanks for watching and have a great Christmas!

    Actually a bit of a guilty pleasure for me is this one. Very mild and I find it makes for a good Mizuwari and even better mixed with ginger beer on a hot summers day. It's streets ahead of rubbish like Whyte and Mckay. I have not noticed any significant drop off in quality over the last few years. It's very consistent. Would probably take this and Teachers and VAT 69 or J&B over any other blends

      You and me think alike. It is indeed a very good mixer when looking for something mild in profile and I don't mind it as a sipping dram now and again. It's a different style to what whisky drinkers normally get excited about but it's very pleasant. I've also been enjoying a bottle of VAT69 recently for many of the same reasons. Good to hear that the quality has been consistent. Perhaps I'll get another bottle of this when my VAT69 runs out, which will probably be soon. Cheers 🥃

    I like Ballantine's, but it's not done well in blind taste tests vs. other blended Scotch whiskies.

      I like Ballantines too. Perhaps the reason that it doesn't do well against other blends in blinds is because there are different types of blend. Ballantines is a very refined, light and GRAIN FORWARD blend. I can see how many people would dislike that when put directly next to more traditional blends. Just a theory 🤔

      @@WhiskyLock That's a good theory.

    A majory contrast to Whisky Novice. Have you come back to this? Is it any good still?

      I've just taken a look at Jim's review. I think from my notes and his you can tell that it's the same whisky but what he's drinking just sounds younger and harsher than what I remember.
      I didn't find any Acetone for example. What I had wasn't even particularly immature, although it would be fair to call it a limited and basic experience!
      Sadly I haven't had a bottle lately to comment on how it might have changed. Sounds like it has gone downhill though. Shame...
      My last bottle was the one I reviewed and I think I bought that around 2018. Time flies...

    How come Jim Murray always places this whisky as one the best scotches in his bible?

    • @WhiskyLock
      @WhiskyLock  Год назад +1

      Well it is a VERY good budget, grain heavy blended Scotch. Best ever? Nah.
      There are many mysteries as to why Jim Murray does the things he does 😉 but IMHO I'd guess that he enjoys occasionally putting the cat amongst the pigeons by elevating something cheap and good value above all the expensive stuff. Understandable but not very helpful for anyone who takes his word on face value...

      @@WhiskyLock haha that’s a good point of view about Jim Murray behavior, it’s really eccentric.
