The sentiment about Paddington 2 (watched it before watching this, had a lovely time) making the viewer want to be a better person is exactly the feeling I get watching a classic Ghibli movie like My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service. Those films in particular, like Paddington, are so much about the simple pleasures of life and how fulfilling it is to be part of a community that cares for each other.

You all convinced me to watch this movie. I had to pause this podcast 30 minutes in and watch Paddington 2 (had to skip the first one because no Netflix). I wasn't expecting this but I CRIED with hot tears streaming down my face multiple times. Idk if I'm just particularly emotional tonight but it was so wholesome and beautiful and touching, especially when viewing the relationship between Aunt Lucy and Paddington as that of an immigrant family. SO GLAD you all convinced me to watch it!!

You might need to be British to really appreciate marmalade. I have the fondest of memories having orange marmalade and lemon curd on soda bread my grandmother baked fresh, curled up in a blanket while my mum set the fire for the day. Nothing better than a fresh soda or farl, fresh butter and a not-too-sweet spread, and a cup of tea, on a chilly (Northern) Irish morning

I loved this movie, its so wholesome!
One thing I noticed is that when Hugh Grant's character is just talking to himself and the mannequins, he says "Shut up, Macbeth!" and if there's one thing that every British actor knows is that saying the name Macbeth is the worst bad luck, so they have been calling it "The Scottish Play" instead for centuries. So this washed up actor saying the name of the play with no care, is in a superstitious way, the reason why he's failed.

Marmalade can taste overwhelming when treated like American Jelly - you don't slather it on, nooooo... You only need a thin layer over an initial layer of proper good butter, the two spreads mixing tastes sublime and it's absolutely best on toast! Even then, marmalade toast is a treat and not something eaten often lol If I had to provide steps:
    1. Toast your bread, ideally golden-brown
    2. Spread a load of butter on your still-hot toast, don't be stingey
    3. Using a different knife (don't want buttery crumbs in your marmalade) spread a thin layer of marmalade over the butter, kind of mashing it in if that makes sense?
    4. Enjoy the buttery orangey slice of heaven. Usually with a cuppa of course. It can be an acquired taste though so start small then apply more of the 'lade on your toast when you feel up to it

speculating but probs accurate light shedding to a lot of the actors in Paddington 2 also being in harry potter - when they made the harry potter films they only wanted British actors to play the roles as its set in Britain and so got like ALL of the Amazing British actors to do it. Paddington is like harry potter, a British classic and one that several generations have adored and grown up with so I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of these actors saw that they were making Paddington - a childhood favourite and jumped aboard to be a part of a British staple

    *SPOILERS AHEAD*
There are just not enough people talking about why the film so good. Something I personally love about it is that it has the glitterati of British stage and screen, even Joanna Lumley only turns up for one tiny scene, and EVERYONE understands the tone they are going for with the film and commits, no one acts like they’re too good for this kids’ movie.
And in terms of writing, it may be a kids’ film but it’s not lazy - every detail that could just be thrown away as cheap humour pays off in the end. Mrs Brown swimming to France results in her saving Paddington, Mr Brown gets his chakra yoga moment, the kids commit to who they are and what they want with the steam train and newspaper that exonerates Paddington, the coconut shy not only takes down Phoenix but it’s Mr Brown that does it, proving that he hasn’t ‘peaked’ in his life like he worries about all movie, he’s still ‘got it’.
The colouring and design are absolutely delightful, Paddington’s characterisation is solid (quite an achievement of CGI to make you feel so much warmth for a totally computerised character - Ben Wishaw’s voice performance helps massively) and Hugh Grant absolutely excels himself, you can’t help but kind of love his villain role. And even HE becomes the best version of himself in the end too despite getting his comeuppance! He may not have it on the West End, but he still gets his one man show!
In short, this movie is incredible and is unironically a favourite of mine, kids’ film or not.

Did you know Paddington was invented by Jeremy Clarkson's mom? She made Paddington for her children.

okay, correction: the paddington stories were written by michael bond, and jeremy clarkson's mom made paddington bears for her children. they started selling it since they were really popular, but they didn't have the rights to paddington so michael bond wanted to take legal action. but then he met jeremy clarkson's dad, they got along, and michael bond granted them the licensing rights to officially sell the paddington bears. jeremy clarkson's mom didn't invent paddington bear but they _are_ a significant part in paddington history.
