Since it is an entirely new horror with no defined tropes, we don't know what to expect, which makes it scary. However, zombies are sort of that, "been there, done that" monster, the one where you already know all its tricks, so they are not as spooky. If the emoji monster were to become a regular horror icon, it would also stop being scary, since it would now have established tropes and expectations.
To me it's really the fact that I've known this game from Joel's stream and I'm not used at all to the Smiley's having arms and legs that actually move. Also, the carnival music is the only sound that's played in-game, so seeing this thing come out of the darkness while you can't even hear footsteps creates a really alien experience.
Is there really just no download anywhere for this game? I want to force a friend to play it because they hate Emojis. I can't find anything on this game anywhere.
