I was in need of a large format CNC router so I made one. I designed all the 3D printed parts and structure in Fusion360 and then made all the cuts, holes and taps. The router is capable of cutting 10mm soft plywood really fast and I don't think I'll have any issues with any kind of wood cutting. It probably would be able to cut aluminium really slow too.

I´ve built myself 3 cnc machines, with mostly 3d printed parts and I´ve got to say you always amaze me with your way of approaching the most common problems you find in these machines, like bending in the gantries, specially this size. I find your mechanical skills pretty awesome, how you always find the way to maximize strength while keeping the thing as light as possible.

Hey Ivan, if I might make a suggestion, consider investing in a set of counterbore bits - these are the boring bits designed to feed into drilled holes and cut wider, flat-bottomed openings to clear the heads of cap-head screws. (Not to be confused with countersink bits - a counterBORE bit cuts a flat-bottomed hole for use with screws with flat mount faces on their heads while a counterSINK cuts an angled hole for screws with angled head faces) Using a counterbore bit after drilling will allow you to place the screw heads inside the frame against the center of the extrusion instead of having heads and washers sticking out from its surface, which will make for a cleaner look and also prevent having potential "catch" points along the perimeter. (It'll also prevent distorting the outsides of the extrusions' profiles when the screws are tightened down.)

Great build!! Tons of value in that machine. If you change your belts out to 3M kevlar you’ll improve accuracy and even increase cutting feedrate a bit, as they simply do not stretch. Even better results if you replace the belts with rack and pinion gears. Seriously great machine, though!! Punching WAY above its weight, cost wise!!! 👍 👏 👏 👏

"I was planing on making it smaller". lol, I have the same problem. I was inpired by the last CNC build on this channel and was planing on building a CNC symilar that one. Ended up building a 3x2 meter monster built from 10cm square tubing with a z-axis that has a travel of up to 1 meter (Gantry can be moved up and down depending on the job). Got myself a rack and pinion setup with 3 closed loop 8.5nm nema 34s for the x and y and a nema 23 for the z. Just finished the bearing setup on the y-axis carriages today. Only need to finish off my z-axis setup during the course of this week and it is time for the first chips to fly. No printed parts, all welded steel beast. Mine can fit a full melamine board so I think it is big enough now. Can't wait to see what it will do, I am so excited. This is either going to be epic or catistrophic. Wish me luck in these final days of my build.
