And it's partner , the gracilis, most excellent plant in its own right!!! Beautiful!!! The setispinus I think was also under the synonym" Hamatocactus setispinus" at one time I Believe. You have quite the Fero collection guys!!! From Morris park in the Ozarks, to across the Emerald Isle , have a great day!!!✌💖🌵🌴🌺🍀🌷🌲💐🌻🌿🌹😀👍

    Awesome video, Lyn. I love Ferocactus, definitely in my top 5 favourite genus. As you say it’s all about the spines on these. Nice to see the gracilis from Edith & myself doing well, too 😊 Looks like it’s doing well and has grown a bit. Thank you for sharing with us as always, Lyn. Have a wonderful afternoon and evening and upcoming weekend from Edith & myself to you and Hans ❤️🌵☀️🌼🌸🌺🏜

    Oh wow what an amazing collection of fero you have there. Super monster beautifful spines specially the one at the back with thick huge spines. One on my wishlist. The monster 3 headed is so awesome. Really tempted to cut my feros hahaha.
    I remember when I made my fero collection and I have to look back if I can see something similar to those that doesn’t have IDs. But really can’t tell, mine still young, wish they flower easy. Lucky that my Fero Fordii already gave me Purple flowers, it has loads of flower buds 15+ but only 2 made it to bloom. Wish you get flowers soon as well specially to those bigger ones and your Chrysacathus, mine gave me seeds already and it’s smaller than yours. That tall ferocactus on the left of the very old columnar with corking looks like my Pringlei. I enjoyed this collection tour and looking forward for more tours. Thank you so much for sharing this my cactus powered sister. Hope you and Hans are having an awesome day. 💚🌵

      So happy you enjoyed the Ferocactus collection Tour Kath :-D and you have a beautiful Ferocactus collection and you are AMAZING at getting your Fero fordii to bloom with our Irish and Welsh weather haha, Fero's really are fantastic with their awesome spines on them, So happy you love the big three headed Monster Fero, I remember many years ago when heavy rain got into my greenhouse from the roof and caused the top of the Fero to rot, I cried so much as I thought it was a gonner, and had to get an electric saw to slice off the top as it was too hard to cut with a normal knife, it healed over and then a few years later grew three heads, and it looks so lovely now, its so extra special, thanks so much my fantastic Cactus Powered Sister for your wonderful Friendship and amazing comment and support and for watching, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Wales for a super Sunday XXXX

    5:00 Oh My Creator!!! Those spines!!! I'm in Tempe Arizona, near Phoenix, US. Anyway, I'm literally 2 miles from one of America's largest municipal parks, South Mountain. I'm telling you, that mountain has quite the collection of ferocactus. There's a ton of those Compass Cacti, the ones that face south because they chase the sun. Not to mention other cacti and desert plants. But the spines though!!! The red and the way they are ribbed down to the base, so freaky cool. I'm White Mountain Apache, the word for cactus is Húsh, pronounced just the way it looks, "hooh-sh". But that's just cacti, each one has its one name, like lophophora, we call her Izéé, medicine, or Shii Maa Izéé, My Mother Medicine. She's very special to Apaches and many other nations here. We have an entire ceremony where we utilize Shii Maa, it's held from sunset to sunrise in a tipi. We pray and sing and eat the medicine.

    Hello
    I have a Ferocactus townsendianus. It suffered with mealybugs over winter, controlled with Isopropyl alcohol, following your advice on your video. It's continuing to suffer with mealybug and has now turned yellow 😬 Its currently outside, sheltered and not in full sun as I didnt want it to struggle any further. Please can you advise me on the best actions to take next? Many thanks 😊

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  Год назад +1

      Hi Marie, so sorry to hear about your Ferocactus, mealybug is such a pest and can be so tough to get rid of especially on Ferocacti as these pests can hide in between the ribs and under the neck at the base of the cactus, cacti can go yellow due to mealybug because these pests suck out the chlorophyll and also stress the cactus causing it to go yellow, Mealybugs can also cause virus which can cause the cactus to go yellow too, thats great you have your Fero outside and protected from full sun, I think the best thing to do is to use a systemic insecticide that will work on contact with the mealies and also work systemically through the cactus, I always prefer to use Isopropyl alcohol and or Neem oil first and prefer to avoid chemical sprays, but if Mealies still persist I do then have to go onto the harder stuff and treat with a systemic spray, Bug Clear Ultra systemic is a systemic that works throughout the cactus to kill mealies, it but sadly some mealies can be resistant to most insecticides now, repeated applications of Neem oil help to kill them and also helps to prevent them from coming back, I will keep my fingers crossed that your Fero makes a full recovery, thanks so much for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Tuesday XXXX

    Are you watering your plants using water trays?

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  3 года назад

      Hi there :-D I water them with a watering can but I keep them on the trays to save on space, and any water that drips out of the bottom of the pots can collect on the trays, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a super Sunday XXXX

    ❌Just used a plant identifier app & quickly found out that I’m the proud papa of a
    (Pete) Townshend cactus 🌵 Has beautiful, healthy, maroon coloured spines.

    You are pretty wrong with names of the ferros -2:22 F. emoryi, not 3x F. glaucescens but 1. gl + 2. F. schwarzii 3. F. setispinus or rather sinuatus in poor condition. 4:50 F. acanthodes var. lecontei, and so on. Is it so difficult to reed some book about cacti before you make a video?
