    In the pilot, Alastor teleported Husk, half the poker table he was at, and the bar behind him into the hotel. So, the reason it looks like the bar doesn’t belong is because it didn’t. But they made it work.

    Honestly I think you are right about Alastor being the better option in terms of ownership. Yeah he postured and scaird husk when he did something that really pushed Al’s normal patience, but he never actually physically hurt husk, nor would he ever sexually assault somebody. The fact that husk was as comfortable as he was talking back to Alastor in the first place shows that that outburst was unusual for Alastor. Husk literally just hit his number one nerve.

      So I might say to YOU when Husk and Angel are NOT listening in that Angel has it worse but if I was talking to Husk IRL I'd listen to Husk and support him with the mindset that to Husk subjectively what he is going through is the worse to him because he's actually experiencing it vs only hearing about what Angel went through

    Fun fact: During Hell's Greatest Dad, both Lucy and Alastor actually perform the feats you see. They vrent just special effects added for the songs imagery like it would be in most shows, the two are literally flexing their powers. Lucy his complex reality manipulation as the Light Bringer and King of Hell, and Alastor his voodoo magic as the Strongest Overlord. While Lucy uses his powers to show all the things he could give to Charlie and entices her that way, Alastor uses his voodoo magic in a manner that suggest supporting her own efforts instead. It does great to show the differences in how each character handles the situation. Lucy is straightforward in trying to wow Charlie, whereas Alastor is going the more subtle route

    • @Zikkar
      @Zikkar 19 дней назад +2

      Lucifer can warp reality as can Charlie I not so sure Alastor can do that as well. Sure he is strong but he isn’t anywhere near as strong as Lucifer is.

      @@Zikkar you underestimate the power of Voodoo magic, my friend. It may be a lesser version, but it's definitely still reality manipulation. Tho that is really on the basis that we can consider his feats in the pilot.
      Alastor was able to go toe to toe with Adam after all, and he almost won. So he is definitely pretty strong. And Adam was strong enough that only Lucy could beat him, albeit he did so pretty easily lol

    • @musicisum0405
      @musicisum0405 19 дней назад +2

      I'm sure Lucifer could've summoned a caviar mountain and all that to flex, and Charlie uses illusory magic as well, but just to be clear I'm fairly certain MOST of the time, we're operating on cartoon/musical rules. As in, visual emphasizers are there primarily for the audience's benefit. One of the biggest requirements of musicals in general is suspension of disbelief, the most obvious reason being that normal people don't just break out into song. I only say this because if we start taking the visuals we're shown in musical numbers literally, we're going to be getting a very skewed interpretation of power scaling in the show.
      Also want to point out that Alastor's magic is not explicitly said to be voodoo at any point. It initially used voodoo imagery in the pilot, which has since been changed, and the current canon is more something voodoo-inspired in aesthetics, but not much else. Plus, I highly doubt Alastor is the strongest overlord. One of them, for sure, but I'm willing to bet Zestial at least is stronger since he's older. And according to Valentino, Alastor ALMOST beat Vox the last time they fought, so their power is also probably very similar.

    I dont think that husk has it _worse_ than Angel as a general point. But he has lost his freedom. Alastor can call him whenever he pleases, he has total control over Husk.
    I'm not saying Angels situation isn't objectievly worse, but Losing ones freedom can for many people be the worst thing to happen to them. I also think that 'comparing' pain is always a bad Idea, bcause no two people feel it the same way. If losing his freedom is the worst thing that Husk has experienced, that that is literally _the worst he has ever been._ Angels worst might seem worse, but to Husk, this _is_ the worst.
    And it did help Angel, didn't it? The Idea of "someone else is also on a leash and doesn't have the ability to move in the way the ywant"

    22:42 a Sinners strength is determined by how many souls they own, as well as who they were before dying. Alastor was a serial killer radio host in the 1920s, so he's been around for a while and probably has a WHOLE LOT of souls, including presumeably those of multiple Overlords (like Husk and the others that Mimsy mentioned), while also being an Overlord himself (as seen in episode 3)

  • @timemonkey
    @timemonkey 20 дней назад +19

    There's lots of angels above Adam. Adam is just a human that went to heaven after death. He's the angelic equivalent of a sinner, maybe the angelic counterpart of an overlord, like Alastor, just with more power due to being an angel. He's in charge of the exorcists but that's about it as far as his authority goes.
    As for Husk's and Angel's situations bith are slaves to an abusive master, Valentino is just a different kind of abusive than Alastor is, more blatant.

    In past religion, Lucifer is the fallen angel that rebelled against God. Satan is The Adversary, Lord of Fire. They were separate beings.
    Devil has often been used to refer to both. And in modern religion, they are now usually seen as the same being.
    In Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss, Lucifer and Satan are separate beings.

      And if you go back REALLY far, Satan/The Adversary wasn't even a demon at all, but something more like... heaven's prosecuting attorney. That's the version that survives in the Book of Job - if you ever wondered why it was so weird that the devil was palling around with God in heaven making bets about mortals' souls, well, it's because "Satan" wasn't "the devil" yet when that story was devised.

Which means by definition that, terrifying as Alastor is, there's someone out there that's as far above his power as he is above the random sinners on the streets. And that's a very short list of individuals; Lucifer and the other six of the Seven Sins (we find out more about them in Helluva Boss, but it's a shared universe), Lillith, Eve, Charlie... possibly the nobility of the Ars Goetia, but even that would be pretty close in power. So... who's holding his leash? Who, indeed?

    Regarding Husk's and Angel's situations I'd put it like this: Angel's day to day life is _definitely_ worse, at least going off what we've seen. However, Alastor holds significantly more power than Valentino does and as we see here, he can be absolutely _terrifying_ when he snaps. Remember that aside from things like angelic weaponry sinners are effectively imortal; kill them and they'll just reform after a while. The Overlords Alastor took down (aside from Husk, as far as we know) however actually went _missing,_ they weren't just defeated.

    To explain a little about the power thing in hell. What differentiates sinners from overlords is how many souls they own. So the more souls, the more powerful they are and at a certain point, they get 'upgraded' to an overlord. It's not really about the worship. Vox, Vel and Valentino own a lot of souls, everyone that's working for them is contracted to them.

  • @saiyasha848
    @saiyasha848 20 дней назад +8

    There hasn't been a complete Explenation of the Power System yet, but it _seems_ like The more Souls you own, the more power you have. Of course, the one person to disprove that is, well, Alastor. He seems to have manifested in hell and right away have the power to topple overlords who owned hundreds of Souls. So there has been a _lot_ of speculation about where his specific power comes from, espeially since it doesn't seem like he runs a soul empire like the Vs or Carmilla.

    As you have noticed, both Charlie _and_ Lucifer seem to assume that the other does not really want anything to do with them. We dont have confirmation yet, but I can see 2 possible scenarios
    1. Lucifer seems kinda... Manic depressive. It is possible that he actually _forgets_ to call Charlie, unless there is a direct need. Not so much because he doesnt love her, more because he really _forgets._ Sad, but not impossible.
    2. The framing of Lillith in this Episode makes her seem a tad antagonistic. The way her face is in shadow and how she is pulling Charlie away from Lucifer makes it _seem_ like she was keeping them apart on purpose. This lends itself to the theorie that maybe, she told both of them that the other didn't really wanna see them and since Lucifer seems to be a bit of a shutin anyway and Charlie maybe felt that as her dad, _he_ should show the interest in her, I can see this non-communication start and continue very easily.
    But eitehr way, it feels like something more happened to make them this estranged.

    To your comment near the end about how it felt weird that a show could make you teary-eyed over Lucifer and Charlie...this show does a wonderful job of taking preconceptions both from the audience and within the show (about heaven and hell, about specific people, about who can be a "good" person, etc.) and flipping them on their head in very interesting and compelling ways. There's a lot more to come in that department in the next couple episodes.

    28:48 also, I want so badly for SOMEONE to point out just how incredible the animators did. All throughout the episode (and especially in this song), there are moments where you see Lucifer kind of break “character,” where his smile disappears and his lips and eyebrows wobble like he’s holding back tears before closing his eyes and trying to cover it up again. Even just that little bit does so much to sell that this character really DOES have depression, even if he works really really hard to cover it up

    From what is most common knowledge, the more soul contracts you own the more power you gain. But I do think that that whatever you control and the more demons use it you do get something out of it. Either power or profit. Mostly profit.

    "Lucifer's lame" and various other complaints. Tell me you didn't pay attention to the beginning without telling me you didn't pay attention to the beginning. They literally never stated he was some big bad scary monster, they said 'he was a dreamer with fantastical ideas for all of creation" and they show him as a simple looking angel with a smile on his face or a sad expression. It also says "THEY" thought he was dangerous. And the big bad thing he did to get himself into Hell was his and Lilith's desire to "share free will with all of humanity". And when he falls he loses his will to dream and he's sad.
    Now. What part of that tells you that he is supposed to be some horrible character, a monster, etc? Your expectations and disappointments are solely from your own lack of ability to pay attention to the context given. They never said he was evil and always showed him in a sympathetic light. Wish reactors actually. You know. Did the bare minimum and paid attention to what they're watching.
    Also. No one said Husk had it worse than Angel, they just meant that he also has it really bad because you dismissed his terrible situation entirely and just seemed to assume Angel is the only one in a bad situation due to someone owning their soul.

    Adam was literally made by the angels, so of course there is someone above him in Heaven. Just like sinners turn into demons when they go to Hell, virtuous humans turn into angels when they go to Heaven (even if Adam was most likely accepted in Heaven for being the first human). Adam is the leader of the angel army, the ones responsible for carrying out the exterminations, but he is not in charge in rulling Heaven itself.

    A Few Things:
    about the thing of american god... no its not about who use or know about the topic of the demons, "the radio demon" its just name, alastor and a lot of the overlords use to be human they are sinners, the reason of their power is his own ability, alastor use to practice vodoo when he was alive, but we are not sure of why he was SO powerfull when he just die (aparently when he die , he become into an overlord really quick), maybe he just were a extremenly powerfull vodoo sorcerer and thats it , but the people have a theory , maybe alastor sold his soul to someone (thats why husk mention de leash) and that amplified his own powers

    well, in Hazbin, Adam is the leader of the Exorcist Angels. Personally, I'm not even sure why he's an angel. If we go based on Christian mythos, Adam is the First Man, but not even the first human in heaven, since Cain killed Abel before Adam died.

    a lot of the confusion between what Lucifer "should be" and is, has to do with this worlds backstory mentioned in the first episode. This wasn't a Lucifer who was sent to hell because he tried to take over heaven. it was one that was sent to hell because he was a dreamer who thought that giving humans free will would let them be more creative and have better lives, and we used it to break Heaven's rules.

    I put the hierarchy of Hell below for those who are interested, it helps to understand the importance of Lucifer in Hell or the power difference between Lucifer and Alastor. I tried not to spoil it but if you want to be sure not to be spoiled, don't read the rest of the comment
    Lucifer Morningstar - The King of Hell
    Lilith - The theoretic Queen of Hell
    Charlie Morningstar - The Princess of Hell and heir of the throne
    The Seven Deadly Sins (Lucifer is Pride)
    The Ars Goetia - Hellborn Demons with royal status
    Overlords - Very influential demons in the circle of pride who have accumulated an impressive number of souls (Alastor, Carmilla, Zestial, Vox, Valentino, Velvett, etc...)
    Sinners - Demons who are humans from Earth who have been sentenced to damnation
    Hellborn demons - Demons natives to hell
    Imps - This is the lowest caste of non-hellhounds demons
    Hellhounds - Demons lowest in the hierarchy that some consider only animals

    Well, that may count as minor spoiler, but there is no conformation yet who hold Alister leash. However its a common theory that is Charlies mom, Lilith - thats why Alister helps with hotel. But we have to wait for this to prove true or false yet))) Got to add something - usually i am not so much fond of musical numbers, especially that often, but this show did them perfectly - they doesnt annoy, they open new sides of the show, and without them it would be so much different (i even dare to say worse). And More Then Anything, being not my top song in the show (sry, i am more dark and broody person, but i can admire wholesomness) won me over with this incredible sounding duo.
    But still nothing beats Poison. And Wish u Stayed Gone (this is just my opinion, i know people like Hell is Forever, but i like Alister too much and Adam too little. Song is good still). And as always, wish everyone best and keep enjoying this amazing show.

    Lucifer is very ADHD coded. Its not that he doesn't care about Charlie. Its that he literally doesn't think to call her if he doesn't have a reason that makes him. ADHD brains work weird, and time blindness is pretty common. We can also have trouble thinking of or remembering things that aren't in our faces.

  • @Lanoira13

    It seems like Overlords' strength is based on a combination of souls they own and influence they have. And Alastor seems to have both in spades due to his targeting of other Overlords when he first came to Hell. Given how quickly he rose to power by killing them, it can be inferred Overlords claim others' deals when they kill another Overlord, they probably don't get automatically voided, so it's very possible Alastor is objectively the most powerful Overlord in Hell, and just doesn't have enough control over his power to use it effectively (we hear in episode 2 he couldn't manage to beat Vox and presumably also Val given their matching injuries in a fight prior to disappearing 7 years ago). That or it's possible whatever deal he has limits his power/splits it with his deal holder and he's had it for long before he disappeared.
    Also yeah, as one of the people who was giving a bit of spoiler free perspective on Alastor and Husk's relationship, 100% Angel has it worse than Husk despite having a better more flexible deal ON PAPER solely based on the fact that Valentino is a POS, and Alastor is just a better person with better morals about what he's willing or interested in doing to a person. Sure, Alastor probably considers Husk a shitty person and would probably make good on that threat he made if Husk crossed him, but he also considers Husk a friend and clearly lets him get away with a lot more than he'd probably tolerate from most people, up to risking exposing Alastor's biggest secret out of petty spite to get back at Alastor for a rude joke he didn't like. Like clearly Angel negotiated a much better contract, but Husk definitely got the better boss of the two.
    Unlike other people I'd argue they're kind of equally free, since while Angel doesn't have to do whatever Val says outside of work, he has no choice but to work. Clearly Angel isn't at Val's beck and call, they probably have set minimum work hours or quotas or something, given we see that Angel is perfectly capable of ignoring Val's calls even if they are for (presumably extra) work, but he does have to go to work eventually and Val can probably keep him there for certain lengths of time doing whatever he wants, even if it's not technically work related. He can't go do whatever he wants, he has to be around to show up for his job, and he presumably has to maintain his image outside of work to some degree, both figuratively with his brand and literally with his body and well being.
    Husk on the other hand while in theory probably has to help Alastor with whatever he needs to the best of his ability whenever he demands it and is currently working a full time job for him, BUT he can go wherever he pleases and do whatever he pleases when Alastor doesn't need a favor from him. Alastor will just summon him when needed and presumably if he dies or makes a fool of himself, oh well, not Alastor's concern, Husk is just a favor to call on, he can call on someone else if he can't or doesn't want to use Husk.

    Yeah, this is why I like Hazbin Hotel as an adult cartoon. Yeah it's got swearing, gore, adult themes, sexual innuendos and what not, but it's still a cartoon with heartwarming and touching moments at its heart, not just an exercise in "how offensive can we be" like many adult series are. It's Disney with drugs and hookers.

  • @Aunt-LaLa
    @Aunt-LaLa 19 дней назад +1

    Maybe this is coming from the protective adult side, but maybe, just MAYBE we should trust Lucifer's instant dislike and wariness of Alastor? 🤷‍♀️
    The thing is, even without the foresight of the rest of the lore, so far we know Charlie doesn't ever talk to her dad unless he calls her, doesn't visit him either. She seems to think that he thinks she is a failure. She clearly spent most her time with her mom, whom we witness taking her away from her dad. She also states in an earlier episode that she trusts everyone aka: naive.
    Alastor we know doesn't believe in the hotel or it's purpose. Wants to see people fail. Enjoys owning and torturing souls. Is a SERIAL KILLER CANNIBAL. Desperately wants to make any kind of deal with people to get them under his thumb. Is sadistic. It is also a proven trait for serial killers to be exceedingly charming, both to lure in victims and to stay off radar.
    Lucifer we know from episode 1 when Charlie is telling his and her mom's story that he 'lost his will to dream' also known as the depression he openly admits to and clearly shows symptoms of. He obviously adores his daughter and wants to do right by her even if it's outside his comfort zone. Is very much still in love with his wife as evidence by the pictures and wedding ring he keeps on even though she disappeared on BOTH of them. Even when he seems unsupportive and dismissive of the hotel its because of his own personal experiences with sinners and doesn't want Charlie to be hurt. He even has 3 helpers he made for Charlie with her at the hotel to watch out for her since he is more or less sidelined by her. The man has been King of Hell for 10,000 years, he knows bad vibes when he feels them. Even if he is jealous of the time Alastor spends with Charlie, that doesn't mean his parental instincts aren't right.
    But I did just finish watching Quiet On Set not too long ago, so again maybe it's my overprotective adult coming out in force. 😅
    I'm still keeping an eye on Alastor. Charm is used to cover flaws is all I'm saying. 💗

    Jeremy Jordan's take on characters is amazing - I prefer his Light to the one in the manga/anime (in the Death Note Musical Concept album), I love how he voiced Varian in Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure, and he's clearly very versatile -, but I also love how he managed to play along with the almost Genie-esque part of Hell's Greatest Dad. This is probably my favourite iteration of Lucifer specifically because he's this awkward bumbling mess. Also, Lucifer is one of my favourite Hazbin Hotel characters now.
    Charlie is a dreamer, like her dad. Big ambitions, but, you know, those can flop, hard. Of course she's gonna try and redeem people even if she doesn't know it works. And of course it's not going to come with immediate success.
