  • In this video, I discuss the new Pathfinder Scout Pack designed by Dave Canterbury. This is just my initial impressions after only using it a few times. I will be doing a full review down the road.

    Hey so cool tip for everyone. I have the previous version of this pack. I took a flexible cutting board from amazon and cut it to the exact size of the foam pad, rounded the 2 corners, and shoved it with the foam pad into the pack, makes it a tad more rigid and now i have a foam sit pad and a cutting board/little table.

    Man I thought about getting this bag but I already purchased the Blackie Thomas one instead. I also took the 20 liter and 10 liter Pathfinder dry bags and tethered them together using soft shackles and that also worked out well for short trips

    Does the tag say where these packs are made? Saw theyre on sale and might grab one but I dont want a Chinese made pack

      Honestly, I'm not sure, as I don't have the pack anymore. I traded it for another piece of gear.

    I had the original run one of these. I liked it. I ended up selling it, and getting the Savotta Jakaari. I am not really a fan of the Savotta. I ended up picking up one of the new M81 packs, used, from an outdoor forum.

      I ended up selling mine. I'm just not the biggest fan of the design. I just got an Aston 3 from Hill People Gear. I'm going to be doing a review on it.

      @@theaveragewoodsman6002 for this pack, I think, you gotta get your kit dialed right in. I use mine for a daypack/emergency overnight pack. I can pack enough to stay alive, and relatively climate neutral, but it wouldnt work well with a purpose planned overnight. Essentially, its my day bumming bag and emergency/get home bag. Light and small enough to carry stuff for a day, with just enough room left over for a puffy jacket, ground pad, and thermal blanket.

    I have a few points that I think could be improved;
    1. The PALS webbing should be at least a similar colour to the camo pattern of the pack (if not actually camo), otherwise it's pointless having it camo.
    2. The pouch at the base should be bigger, it's a pretty pathetic little pouch, they'd have been better making it central to the front and larger.
    3. The velcro field on the front of that bottom pouch will attract loads of debris.
    4. As you mentioned, the shoulder straps could be better.
    5. It's a blatant rip off, of the Savotta Jaakari Medium.

    • @theaveragewoodsman6002
      @theaveragewoodsman6002  Месяц назад +3

      Honestly, those would be some good improvements. Particularly the shoulder straps, and yes, it's definitely a direct copy of the Savotta Jaakari. But not as high quality.

    I know it has a foam “frame” is it really floppy and does gear create hot spots. How’s it fair against a plastic sheet frame back pack.?

    • @theaveragewoodsman6002
      @theaveragewoodsman6002  2 месяца назад +1

      It's actually quite floppy. I much prefer plastic insert frames over the foam type.

      As I allude to in the video, I'm not sold on the price for what you get. It isn't an inexpensive pack, and the build quality and features don't hold up to other packs that I own (Helikon Tex, Mystery Ranch, Wisport, 5.11 Tactical, etc).
