  • Demonstrating High-Speed Wide-Area Power System Measurement Applications
An important aspect of power grid modernization is providing system operators with real-time visibility across wide areas of the system. Over the past 20 years, this visibility has significantly improved with the deployment of high-speed synchronized measurement systems. Many applications have been deployed by grid operators as new capabilities continue to be developed.
In this presentation, I will begin with an overview of today’s advanced measurement systems and their use in control rooms. Next, I will discuss the development and field demonstration of applications for monitoring power system stability, identifying the sources of wide-area oscillations, and automatically reviewing generator performance. The presentation will conclude with a discussion on how the widespread deployment of inverter-based resources is driving interest in a new generation of wide-area monitoring systems with even more advanced capabilities.
