    You can definitely tell the growth between the two albums. There’s nothing wrong with Kill Em All, but I think, if their second album would’ve been more of that, it would’ve been thought of as a very generic thrash album. What they did with ride the lightning as far as musicianship, and as far as what they were talking about lyrically was just a huge step forward.

    • @martinkuliza
      @martinkuliza Год назад +3

      yeah but let's be honest, no one hits it out of the park on their first album
      a band has to learn how to be a band and the dynamics that make it happen, that's why usually the 2 or 3rd is the big one and then there will be another big one and that's usually it for any band
      for Metallica it was Puppets and Black primarily nothing wrong with Kill, Lightning or Justice but yeah that's how it pans out

    • @bdr113080
      @bdr113080 Год назад +2

      @@martinkuliza yeah I totally agree with that. I was just pointing out that it’s not like those were the songs that made them big stars. And if they didn’t keep maturing and let’s say puppets and lightning was more of the first album I don’t think they make it as far as they did. And I love that first album but you can tell they grew a lot between that and the second.

    Dave was in the band for less than a year. He wrote Jump in the Fire and Phantom Lord (though the song is named after James' first band in High School) in his previous band Panic and then wrote The Mechanix and the second riff on Metal Militia which was his one and only writing collaboration with James in Metallica.
    James wrote Hit the Lights and Motorbreath in his previous band Leather Charm, he also wrote Whiplash, No Remorse, and Seek and Destroy as well as the first riff in Metal Militia and then the bridge added to The Mechanix that became The Four Horsemen.
    In fact, it was the first Metal Massacre recording of Hit the Lights with Lloyd Grant on lead guitar that made Dave Mustaine want to join Metallica. He definitely contributed but most certainly did not write Kill 'Em All.
    I love Megadeth but ffs fanboys need to grinding on Dave's jock.

    Putting a slow tune on Ride the Lightning didnt freak many people out. It was a natural progression from ballads by Sabbath, Dio, Queensryche, Maiden... a lot of heavy bands had mellow tunes. And Fade to Black isn't that mellow anyway.

      No it actually did freak many people out. That was the beginning of the metal community yelling at them for “selling out”. A ballad on a thrash record was seen as a sellout at that time. Meanwhile Metallica proved they could write more than just thrash, they could write meaningful and cohesive songs.
