I love that the girl his mom tried to set him up loves his girlfriend and tries to politely tell his mother that she wants nothing to do with coming between that relationship. She came to the dinner AS A COURTESY.

The GF's family took the father abd the son in when the mother abandoned them and remarried and started a new family. The only reason the son went to live with the mother was because of the car accident that killed her new husband and the left the mother severely injured. That sister is the sister from the new husband and not his father. The mother only used the son because her new husband was dead and she did a free caregiver for her daughter from the new husband who was dead.
Mother needs to realise that it’s not about her. She has to put her feelings aside and think of her sons.
Yes, what did Li Jianjian do to his mom? She’s just taking care of him and learning to have the best relationship the two of them can have. The mom doesn’t realize that she doesn’t care for the family downstairs because they know why her daughter died (it wasn’t Ling Xiao’s fault). The mom went off to play Mahjong and locked the two kids in the house. No one pointed a finger at her.

I never understood why the mother hated jianjian so much.

If I were him I would just leave. This filial bullshit makes me sick. It's a parent's responsibility when they bring a child in to this world to help them grow in to decent and happy human beings, without expecting anything in return. But it seems from what I've seen from these Chinese and Korean dramas that these parents treat their kids as objects and pawns in business. So disgusting. The "kids" are grown adults with their own careers. If it's obvious these crappy parents don't care about their kids, the kids should go and live somewhere else and cut ties.

He made it clear to her when she first showed up & she made the assumption that Dad Ling was giving money to Dad Li & Dad Li was mishandling the money...stupid assumption but Ling Xiao told her right off he didn't do it for the money and that he would take care of Dad Li in his old age, just as he was taken care of. You don't have to like Jianjian, don't give a sh*t if you hate her. What matters is what your son feels! It was stupid to invite his colleague with that intention. He's been working with his colleague long before his Mom showed up, if there was a chance for something between them it would've happened without his mom's interference! This psycho mom is the worst I've seen in any Asian drama, the mom in Something in the Rain (Kdrama) comes second. That Mom treated the potential son-in-law bad, this psycho mom treats her own child badly by abandoning him and making him feel guilty for his sister's death!

About a year ago, I started watching it again, and I stopped at episode 10, because that's where everything starts going seriously pear shaped, and her friend (his sister) is almost as bad as her mom is. And what’s with grown children with their own careers living with their Parents, it’s so weird, as soon as my 2 sons left for University they lived away from home from then on. I certainly wouldn’t allow them to move in with me after they got into relationships and married.... these parents need to let their children fly free, be independent, make their own mistakes and learn from them, I told my sons in choosing their wives to be wise and choose well they were the ones that would have to lay their head on the same pillow with them every night for the rest of their lives, and whoever they chose their father and me would respect their chose. If these series are portraying reality ( at least to some extent) its no wonder they have such dysfunctional children! It’s shameful...
