His demeanor completely changes when he's with his brother and sister. They are his real family and he's relaxed and happy.
Her words and actions are an insult to everyone seated at that table (and the one who isn't). I really cannot understand why the writers have everyone just sit there and let her get away with it.
My inlaws are/were like that mother.....complete narcissists. We all kept biting our lip in the early days......but after the wedding, where his father made a big announcement of breaking us up if it was the last thing he did, the gloves were off. Sometimes I'd let it go, other times I'd fight. I promised my FiL i would dance on his grave in a red dress before i broke up with his son......i kept the promise. We're still together 32 years later (30 married). But this drama brings back so many horrible memories. The way my parents were treated too was awful. The false smiles and fake laughter so they can pretend it was all 'a joke' or 'meant well'. Ack, vileness. But we fought back. I refused to let his parents destroy our lives. I'm sure that will eventually happen here too. But i am sad to see Little Orange turning into her loathsome mother.
the two dads were trying to be polite because they knew Chen Ting is emotionally disturbed and they're trying to keep the peace for Xiao's birthday. They probably thought they could hold it together for a couple of hours and then be done with her.
But I really feel that Ling Heping should have taken a stronger stance. He shouldn't have let the grandma and mother get away with their behaviour. Li Haichao that way is such an amazing father. He always protects Jianjian and He Ziqui. If he could, he would have done the same for Ling Xiao too. I hate how both women would rely on Li Haichao so much and yet be so livid whenever Ling Xiao would call him his father. They have never been a good family to him and they won't let him live happily with his family either. Stupid, vile women!
Every child deserves parents but not every parent 🙃
Simple things are better than luxury things. He is happier with his friend and girlfriend. 😀😀😀

Again it was all about her and her agenda. Probably the sadest birthday dinner her son ever had. Everything spewing out of her was mean. Her daughter is just a mini version of her, mean and selfish. The family did well controlling any comments, probably to save Ling Xiao any more pain and embarrassment. Me, I would have just left or told her off.
Yeah!! I'd said you're making this the WORST birthday of my life and dare say these things and think it's right?? Narcissists only think of themselves. Never see themselves as villains.
Yeah, I have inlaws like her - not wealthy, though they pretended to be until my FiL died - but controlling and vile. My husban was never meant to get married and having a child was NOT acceptable, but we did it. I was tenacious and refused to be chased off. So this drama- which I've watched a lot of times - really still steams me up. I'm so glad it had a happy ending for them. As for me, me and my husband are still very happy together despite his parents best efforts (even trying to scupper the wedding) and it;s been 30 years married, 32 together.

I have NEVER broken a promise and we're still married and happy, 30 years later. His father's dead and his mum is soon to follow, so long as the devil doesn't get another restraining order (she's 99 and currently in hospital).😊

She hates the fact they know her for the scum she is. She hates that her son adores them and despises her. My inlaws are/were narcissists like her. Truly loathsome. Narcs should NEVER have kids. She brings back so many bad memories for me, before i finally lost my bag of fucks and decided to fight back. Along with my late parents, who adored my husband too, and then our daughter. They stil acted up, but were shut down quickly. LOL!

I always advise my children, that.. before they get into relationships or getting married someday.. They have to work harder, cause when the time comes they will encounter like this kind of families and then been bullied at least even if they broke up, they can still stand up to themselves and if they are meant to be together with the one they love, destiny will lead them back... And always stay calm and if there is little chance, just left the group..
That's why it's important to date future in-laws too. Need to sound 🔊 them out cause once u marry it's too late. U get kids and it's even worse, u can't get rid of toxic family as easy.

In most cases narcissistic parents like her brainwash and emotionally manipulate their kids from birth. Its what my narc inlaws did to my husband.
