ER was my show. what i liked about it due to its ensemble cast, once a season there would be one episode focused on just one character. the one for george clooney pretty was the catalyst for his movie career.
ER by far the all time best medical show in history!!!! True to life, never cheesy and always was up to date with current events in the medical community!!

The good doctor is the best.
General hospital is considered a drama. Its the lingers running tv drama show in history. That should have at least gotten an honorable mention.
General Hospital is the longest American drama in TV history started in April 1963. Coronation Street in England is the longest running show in TV history starting in December 1960.

Chicago Med is my personal favorite. I've never binged that much in my life :) I got completely caught up in about 2 1/2-3 weeks 😳 I watched it on a whim just to check it out and absolutely loved it! I grew up on The Three Musketeers and being about to watch Oliver Platt again made me really happy 😊
I've tried watching that twice and I couldn't get into it, maybe I'll try it again now

My favorite medical show is Greys Anatomy
You can make an argument for the top three all being #1 but for me it comes down to ER. ER has such a great ensemble cast, great writers and each episode feels like a movie. I know 15 seasons sounds daunting but if you have not watched it you should.
Fav seasons: Season 4, Season 2, Season Season 6, Season 7, Season 8, Season 9
Fav characters: Mark Greene,John Carter,Peter Benton, Kerry Weaver,Abby Lockhart,Carol Hathaway

House and ER my classic favorites! Such a good series
You should have included Australian medical drama All Saints it ran for 12 seasons between 1998 until 2009. And ER should have been number one on this list. Nothing against Greys but ER is way better!
For me ER should be number 1, house md number 2, m*a*s*h number 3, nurse Jackie number 4, Grey's anatomy number 5 (even though I haven't watch a single episode after season 10) the good doctor, black code and the night shift number 6,7 and 8th don't know in what order
Would've been cool if you added The Resident to this list. It's a great medical drama in its own right, and an underrated one at that.
I went back and found Saint ELSEWHERE on RUclips and enjoyed many of the episodes, I still watch MASH to this day, it still makes me want to laugh and cry. Just recently rewatched the last episode for the first time and since it was on back in the early 80s, talk about one of the most gut wrenching pieces of TV ever
The scene with the woman suffocating her child was the saddest thing I've seen on TV.

Back in the 70s there was a good show called Medical Center. It starrred Chad Everett. I also agree that ER should be number 1.
I am a diehard Grey’s fan and even I think ER deserved to be #1. And Medical Center should have been on this list whereas MASH should not have been given that it’s generally regarded as a comedy and this list specifically says “drama”.

I watched a show called ‘This is going to hurt’ it was very good. It talked about some serious matter. I think it deserves to be in the list.
I can’t believe casualty made the list. It’s been on for donkey years and goes through many changes. You have some who are there for the long haul but most of them last between a two or three years. Just a hospitals staff always changing. However, You can not watch it for years but you still find good old Charlie there.
PS Casualty and holby! Now I am surprised.
I enjoyed greys... to a point. ER was much more consistently strong, knowing when to end. Greys has just gone on from season 8 continously declining in quality and actual medicine

I used to watch St Elsewhere all the time as well as House and ER. My favorite one I watch now is Grey’s Anatomy. The Good Doctor looks like a show that I will have to check out. Chicago Med looks like another show I will have to give a try watching it.

I really expected ER to be #1. While I enjoy Grey’s, there’s no way it beats ER. I wish Code Black had been given more time, I really liked it whereas New Amsterdam is just ridiculous to me. ER, House, MASH and Nurse Jackie are the best ever. My opinions, don’t hate on me. Lol.

I've been rewatching ER, if Steven Spielberg decides to reboot it I would definitely watch it.
I am a huge M*A*S*H fan, rewatched the whole series several times. There will never be another Army Based hospital show quite like it. That's if another show revolves around a war.

Has anybody else watched "Monroe"? I really like that one!! It aired +10 years ago and I am still sad it was cancelled after two seasons. 😭
ER was my favorite medical drama. I liked it up until George Clooney left the show, but did watch some of the later seasons

saving hope was a great medical drama and unknowingly the patients in few of the episodes were the cast of Wynonna Earp

C’mon House is iconic! I mean its my favorite, so fun and also pretty accurate medical stuff and every character has a background so it is just *muah chef’s kiss*
2 of my favorite medical dramas that weren't on this list is Dr. Quin Medicine Woman and Lifetime's "Strong medicine" about women doctors.
Nip/tuck deserves better! This series was such a crazy ride.
Btw you completely forgot to mention the Night Shift. While only lasting for 4 seasons, it was a great show

I’m literally rewatching house right now from start to finish, normally I’m watching greys anatomy cause it’s my comfort show but after watching all the seasons over 7 times, it kinda gets a little too redundant lmao. chicago med is a good one too, and new amsterdam, but you can’t forget the OG shows like ER and private practice. man I love medical drama shows.

The Australian show All Saints is amazing, they get the medicine right. It shows things little things like medicine checks (that's when they gossip). I liked The Royal and Call the Midwife both 60s period British shows. I also loved the British show Peak Practice. The only American show (I'm an American) medical show I liked was House. I know it was outrageous but the characters were brilliant. The supporting actors have found success after the show. I hate Grey's Anatomy. I loved Scrubs as a comedy. It took place in a hospital so it counts. I love the commercials using the actors to sell wireless service.
Where can All Saints and Peak Practice be watched?
I would have picked New Amsterdam over Chicago Med, despite the fact I watch both. Choosing between Grey’s, House, and ER for #1 would have been impossible for me.
I would have been happy if any of the top 4 shows was number 1 except for Greys Anatomy.

Although I am a big Greys Anatomy fan, I believe House should be no.1. I would like to add my ultimate favorite medical drama to the list. It’s a Netflix kdrama called Hospital Playlist. It has 3 seasons already and it is amazing. Most of you have probably not even heard of it as it is a Korean drama. No I am not Asian not do I speak anything but English but a 30+ white American woman who loves kdramas and reading subtitles. Take my word for it and watch Hospital Playlist.

I only watched one medical drama in my whole life yet I can honestly say none are better than the "the good doctor".
I'm not surprised Grey's is at #1. The show's popularity is iconic. But the best seasons that established that iconic status were the earlier ones. Seasons 1-8 maybe. Beyond that is just underwhelming for me.
Fun fact: I don't know if this is still true but for the first 30 or so years there were two actors who'd appeared in every episode, Charlie Fairhead's actor (who I've forgotten the name of) and an extra
Derek Thompson played Charlie Fairhead and he had been on the show since the first episode. He recently departed the show earlier this year

I watch Grey's Anatomy and I cringe sometimes because half the stuff they do in the hospital think in real life they would get fired and sued

Of these shows - MASH is by far the best . Grey's Anatomy has nothing to do with real medicine. The best medical show on TV at this time is 'Call the Midwife' the BBC show on PBS. It has wonderful writing, excellent acting and is factually based on the medicine of the 1950's and 1960's. Signed a physician with 35 years experience.
I feel like most if these shows are great but to not even mention The Resident is crazy to me. It is honestly one of the best medical dramas I have ever watched.

A medical student that grew up watching a lot of medical TV shows and it always saddens me that The Night Shift never is a show that crosses everyone else's mind, or that many never actually got to watch the Show. Any list missing that show, misses or missed the point on what medical TV series's are or should be about and I watch the list I wonder how the hell can Grey's anatomy and Chicago Med ever make the list when it hasn't, and of course there are several TV shows that I think outclassed the show, such as House MD and ER, but anything else really hasn't actually outperformed it and I say that as a med student and a medical sciences graduate. And to be honest, every episode of Chicago Med that i have watched makes my heart boil as to the inaccuracies as well as point blank visible mistake they make on the show, it by far is one series i time and time again still womder how is it no one notices the error and quite frankly visible mistakes from the show, that by all means any person in medicine or not should notice.
If I remember correctly Grey's Anatomy in its 18th season, still has higher rating(0.66) than the Good Doctor's 5th season(0.42)
Grey's Anatomy is currently the 2nd highest rating primetime medical drama only second to Chicago Med
But Chicago Med is only on its 7th season

Casualty used to have a sister show Holby City about the surgeons in the same fictional hospital, that has just been cancelled, after a long run. The fans were not amused when it was cancelled.
