I love how House faked his own death to get out of Clinic Duty.
Thats actually a pretty House thing to do
What a hero
Well, what does that say about clinic duty...
@@johndoe70770 that is asinine
No Cuddy, he could pretty much do anything.
Still love that he let Foremen know he was alive. I think he respected Foremen the most which is why he was the most hard on him.
Yup. I tear up every time I see this episode.
Also Foreman is the logical pick considering his position as Dean and his overall way of doing things, in a post Wilson future he might be able to help House if he needed it
I don't get it... How did he manage to do that?
Okay, I haven't watched much of this season because what I've seen was utter garbage, but didn't House treat Foreman WORSE than he did Cuddy when she was dean of the hospital? Like, he focused SO hard to troll and undermine Foreman like when he ordered that garage door thing built in his office, of even in this finale the whole flushing down the tickets thing that destroyed part the hospital including THE THIRD MRI machine in the series, how is this respect for Foreman after he got him his license back and out of prison on parole??

Oooo good catch. Never noticed. That’s good writing
so the series ends the same way as MacGyver? I call rip off.
Perfect ending with House and Wilson riding off together.
In the end they were all each other had, women and careers and trials came and went but in the end they were always there for each other
So want to know what happens to the character post Wilson
@@sheenamustard3866 I guess he'd be researching on dark matter? lol
Ya good show. Sad ending for Wilson
House gave a Wilson a strange gift, or maybe it was a curse. He let him live through seeing his friend die, a day he thought he would never see.
He'll get his payback when Wilson dies
an interesting point though, wilson probably never thought he'd live to see that.
It's still hard to believe that Hugh Laurie never won an Emmy for House. He was nominated almost every season (except maybe 2?) for lead actor.
Not that hard to believe if you consider he was competing against Bryan Cranston in Breaking Bad most years.
@@Navajonkee Breaking bad is so overrated
@@sheepwool7998 Maybe. I mean, it is one of the best series I've ever seen, but even that may not justify the borderline cult following it has. But then again, it's still nothing compared to the Trekkie or SW fandoms.

You mean underrated?
@@Bollibompa in what world is breaking bad underrated lol, you can't talk about shows without someone talking about their oh so religious experience with the show, people talk about it like it was their loans were pardoned or something
As rude, obnoxious and sarcastic he was, Dr House had his moments where he could understand the pain and suffering of others...and that's why he is such a complex and enigmatic character.
MAYBE that i what made his a great diagnostician, he wasn't impaired by the emotions.
Indeed. It’s amazing the way he was written. I’m sure Hugh added some of his own complexity to it
Season 3 ep 12. "One day, one room"
He showed comparison, and let his guard down a little.
House is actually a very sentimental man, the issue comes that his life was filled with misery, so that misery of his was coped by his wits and sarcasm
From a writing standpoint he is my favorite type of protagonist - a flawed one. It made the show so incredibly interesting. The writers of house were absolutely fantastic.
This is the greatest gift he could give Wilson, to give up the rest of his professional life which he dearly loved (despite his protests to the contrary), because he loved Wilson more and wanted him to live life to the fullest until the end.
Wasn’t house actually in a lot of other trouble that would’ve given him reason to fake his death besides Wilson having terminal cancer?
So the admin woke up and chose to make us all cry today
so obsessed w this show recently😭 they'll never make another like this.
Could never write a Gen Xer like House after the Great Awokening took over in 2014.

@nvapisces7011 not as good at all.
The only critique I can give to this ending is that they didn't use "You can't always get what you want" as the background music for the final minutes of the show. The show started with that song and it should have ended with that song.
it ends with the same song Amber (his hallucination) sang in season 5
That is exactly what I always felt
Well, I can certainly see how "You can't always get what you want" and "Enjoy yourself while you're still in the pink" are thematically linked. A large part of the reason why we can't always get what we want is that we're going to die someday. So we better enjoy life while it lasts. The last song could have even been intended as an indirect callback to the Stones song.
Would’ve been too on the nose
Warren Zevon’s song?!? It was perfect.
My theory for why House revealed the truth to Foreman: Yes, partly because he saw most of himself in him and respected him but also beacuse Foreman witnessed his death. Foreman thought House could have escaped and chose not to and witnessed the whole thing, that's a huge thing to live through, and House knew it's not right to do that to a "friend".
If anything really, House saw himself in Chase. Chase took over the department not just because he had the most time there, but Chase's methods and mentality were almost identical to House. I do agree he left it to give him closure as a friend.
Foreman inherited House's position first.
Forman picked up the baton when it fell. He held the position in his absence.
Chase was passed the torch. Chase is literally House’s replacement. There’s a whole video of Chase mirroring House over the course of the series including a scene where House explicitly says he’s working to make Chase a better version of himself.
That said, I think the “he witnessed the whole thing” is a strong point and likely did play a big factor. Additionally, Forman saved Wilson, by physically restraining him when wanted to rush in and save House.
And despite his connection with Chase, I think Forman is the one he respected the most. Which also likely played a role in his decision to reveal his last trick.

I also like how it started with Wilson and ends with Wilson
My headcanon will always be that he helped 13 as well when her time came

@@oana9501 true, but a man who faked his death would be facing, in this case, parole violation, arson, theft, desecration of a corpse, (potentially) fraud, and murder charges, lol
Yep mine too. That he reached out to her and let her know he was alive and that his promise still stood.
Wilson looks awesome on his final look... The jacket, sunglass, hair... everything!
When Wilson sees House in the burning building and instinctively runs towards him. Greatest love story of all time if you think about it.
Agreed. He truly loved House
They were so gay for each other it makes my queer little heart sob
everyone needs a friendship like House and Wilson's.
Man not a lot of shows know how to close off their legacy’s, but house’s totally got it right
I used to have arguments with mates about the finale:
They would say “He admitted He’s dead” and I would say “Hyperbole”.
House is literally the modern Sherlock, just as complicated and messed up but also equally a genius.
House & Wilson kicked on until Wilson passed from cancer.
But at least House wasn’t ruining anyone elses life as a result of Him being present anymore - which is something of a reoccurring issue throughout the series that typically, he’s too late to realise the fault made.
Sherlock Holmes finally defeated Moriarty by faking his own death. House MD is supposed to be Sherlock Holmes. That's where they got the inspiration for the series. Most cases on the show are real life cases doctors submitted papers for after the fact. They're public domain you can find most of them if you look hard enough. They're obviously very dramatized though.
All that needs to be said is: What was House's apartment number? 221B.

Funny story, could be one of the most miraculous thing I witnessed.
It was one day I just finished watching The Mentalist, my then favorite show. Wanted a new thing to watch, and randomly clicked on this interesting medical show. Lo and behold, the first episode opened with Robin Tunney, who played Lisbon in The Mentalist. Thought I was crazy and went even crazier when I realized I did in fact pressed play on an entirely new series and not a new episode of The Mentalist. I’ve never received a clearer message.
Never have I felt something was so perfectly made for me other than that moment. I knew then I’d love the show and here I am six years later still loving it, maybe even more as I’ve grown. Watching the first clip made me so emotional, it brings me back to that feeling when I first discovered it. That disbelief of seeing someone you’re so familiar with in something completely new. Then comes the adoration with all the new characters and this new life you’re told.
House will forever be that show for me, coincidentally, like my home. Everybody lies but this one comes from the heart, kudos to the House MD team for keeping the story alive 🥂
It is so incredibly difficult to end a long running TV series in a really satisfactory way. In my opinion very few shows manage it, but House is one of the few that nailed it. Fantastic ending.
Brilliant series, I've never been so depressed in such a glorious way.
10:33 I like how it all starts with Wilson manipulating House to take the case and it is established in the first 10 mins that House hates clinic duty but will do loads of it for Wilson. It truly isn't about what they say but it's about what they do.
Honestly can see a spinoff of house outside the hospital still saving poeple with much less equipment.
nooo, leave it to imagination ^^
It’s been 12 years since it’s ended. I doubt one will ever happen, if it hasn’t happened by now. lol. They intended to leave it as it was, which I like the idea of. But an epilogue would be nice
Would love a spin-off where he becomes a veterinarian. It could teach viewers about common health issues to watch for in pets.
House as a mob doctor
Chase M.D.
To whoever gave us these beautiful 20 minutes of pure art, thank you very much! ❤
Sooo Orange..... and then soooo grey
and then the end scene is all golden ;v;
There was so much grey episodes starting around ambers death, Kutners suicide, House hallucinating in the 4-5 episodes leading up to him going to rehab, a few episodes toward the end of season 6, and episodes after Cuddy leaves him, and then basically most of season 8 is gray
@@Grand_Master_Skywalker they are referring to the difference in color tone between the pilot/first episode - one is near black and white but with orange highlights all over the place, the rest of the series has a more even color pallet, but they are all reduced down.
@@xBINARYGODx i know that. What’d you think my comment was about.

When the cancer overtook him, both he and Wilson knew that Wilson would help him end his life peacefully. One of the reasons he valued Wilson's friendship. Although, House never wanted a patient to give up, over time he knew the decision was in the hands of the patient, and there were times when the end is the end.
Not entirely true: there was a child with a terminal illness: while blunt he laid out the prospect of pain to no good end and offered a way out of the pain in a rather caring manner. And of course there was his promise to thirteen
@@89Keith Yes, that is what I was saying, Keith. :)
Wilson was a lot more like House than he would have liked to admit. He was good at putting up a front because he had to as an oncologist, but you can tell that he had only slightly more tolerance for BS than House did.
Excellent show. I hope everyone involved in it is suitably proud as they should be
I like to think that after Wilson's death House faked some papers in some foreign country and became a nice doctor, helpful to others and pilar of his community, but still upholding his unwavering ethics and commitment to ultimate good and truth
I think he becomes a janitor at a hospital, giving tips to doctors when they can't figure out a case, like the guy who inspired him to become a doctor
How about uk. He has a nice British accent:p
I think he stole Wilson's identity and 'changed his specialty' from oncology to diagnostics
You know, as much as I absolutely loved the first 5 seasons, I never ended up finishing the series. Season 7 was so terrible, then the start of 8 seemed like more of the same, so I stopped watching. Never knew how it ended until just now, watching this. Wish we could have gotten the finale just a couple seasons sooner.
I remember watching a special features commentary on the show. They were celebrating the 100th episode which, coincidentally, was in the back half of season 5. I forget who it was, but one of the people involved in the show said that it was an important milestone, as it makes syndication so much easier. It really feels like they let it slide afterwards IMO.
I will forever be thankful to House for getting me through a hard time: the passing of my grandfather. He and I were close, and I often modelled my life after him. One week of his passing, I watched the season 5 finale, and was introduced to the song As Tears Go By. Really hit me, listening to that. I would go for daily walks in the evening for months, listening to that song, and thinking of my grandfather. I don't even know what the song was meant to be about, but to me it was about loss and the passing of time. Sounds like a sad thing to do every evening, but for me it was cathartic.
The age comparison in itself is so obvious LOL First episode of the first season and final episode of the final season, you can absolutely see the growth, the maturity and the experience written all over their faces, in every wrinkle, every facial features, every strand of hair and in their mannerism. This what makes this series so amazing; as you watch, you grow up along with all the characters and experience all their ups and downs throughout the seasons.
My favourite show of all time! Everything about it was perfect especially the cast. So happy House and Wilson got their ‘happily ever after’
Eh the medical side didn’t make a lot of sense. I don’t know any infectious disease mds who are forced to work as general practitioners in a clinic because they made their boss mad. It also does not make sense that house would avoid doing work. Mds are paid based on seeing patients. If he is not seeing any he is getting paid $0.

Can't say for sure how I feel about the ending, but I can say that it seems rather poetic that he did it for Wilson in the end as he did in the beginning
Yep, and how such a selfish man did the most selfless thing ever in the end. He sacrificed his career, was unable to contact those he loved, and probably gave up Vicodin (how could he get a prescription after that?) just to spend 5 months with his friend.
@@Maria-jq3zvhe has a whole stash of Vicodin, probably enough for the rest of his life.

The reason for all the zebra talk at the start was because the original title of the show was "chasing zebras".
I'm forever waiting for him to appear before 13 again.
He did promise to help her when the time came. I expect he'll be there.
Only when her condition starts to kick in
I wish they had kept the prevalence of strong music and the zoom in on what is going on within the disease but I like how they focused more on the character development later in the show

19:35 Hugh Laurie puts his helmet on the same way he does in Black Adder Goes Forth.
I've binged House maybe 4 times now. The blatant chroma key/green screen on the scene where House is sitting on the stairs REALLY gets me every time.
I think that the weight of what House did is immense. He literally "died" for his friend. He can never live a normal life again. Because without Wilson he doesn't want to.
"I'm dead. What do you want to do for the next 5 months."
After all the bullshit, House gave Wilson his undivided attention, and care for him until the end.

I always wondered about the orange filter over everything in the pilot. I still hate that you can't find this show anywhere with the original massive attack teardrop intro.
Prime has all the episodes and the season 1 massive attack teardrop intro. This show also gets played on POP quite a I bit along with ER
Every episode on DVD begins with the Massive Attack song. Every one.
And in the end, after all that show where everyone knew House and who he was, in the end his friendship with Wilson was more important than anything. His career, his apartment, his leg pain, his vicodin, his whole life. House prided himself on his logic and rationality. To him, this was a rational decision, and given how much everyone, including his friends, seemed to annoy and enrage him, in the end he proved that people actually are the most important elements of his life. When the choice is between your life and your friend's last five months, you go with your friend's last five months.
It brings full circle the whole show's central premise that despite it all, despite seeming to hate them and thinking they were the worst part of his job and day, people matter to House. They were always his foremost concern.
From start to finish, what a journey this show has been!
I loke the parallel betwen House and Rebecca Adler. They both are smart, charismatic, good looking and have an important task in life. Its like if all show after that is answering where they are not like one another.
One of the most perfect show endings. So well done.
Incredible writing and acting. Hugh Laurie absolutely more than earned an Emmy.
I love, love the ending! House always loved his friend more than anything and anyone.

I’m convinced House died in the last episode and Wilson imagined seeing House. House imagined seeing Amber when she was dead, and others. Wilson was dying and he didn’t want to die alone. It’s possible House faked his death but it’s also possible Wilson imagined it.
That would shift the whole trajectory
