It must be a really cool moment for Marc Johnson watching his wife perform his former trio leader's (Bill Evans) great composition so brilliantly. She is amazing at the keyboard with a nice soothing vocal style....
Ms Elias, thank you for having worked very hard for decades to develop your awesome talent. Thank you for living. Thank you for your devotion to Bill Evans. Graças para a partilha!
this young lady knocks me out.beautiful talented she has it all and boy she can play piano up there with anybody.what else is there to say.many thanks.
Great performance by Eliane and her trio as always. I was surprised that there was no bass solo...I mean...huh?! I was waiting for the genius of Mark Johnson to come through any second especially that this is a Bill Evans tune. I wonder why they chose not to do that. A lovely rendition none the less. Thank you for posting 🙏🏻🎵
Elaine is wonderful .... May I point out tha Marc and Adam are an outstanding duo ..... they have worked togeht over the years .... and the support is outstanding ... Adam is so so good and underrated over the years
I'm getting watery eyed immediately as Marc appears. All his memories this tune must bring him with Bill Evans... now performed again so wonderfully by his wife. Marc must be proud, and so would Bill.
I've loved it so long! because it's my first number to meet jazz music. well actually, I didn't know what feeling to be an uncle is...but now, I understand the lyrics. it's so lovely.
Can you say "unbelievable?" Bill would have been very proud to hear this treatment of his very pretty and quite haunting song. What a trio! :)) There's no debate on this one - she and her entire band are "Monsters."
What's with Elias is a great "lady pianist"? She's a serious choice as best jazz pianist around today (2016). Tyner plays a lot of notes, but eventually it gets old. Elias can play various styles--Brazilian, jazz standards, avant. Her solo on Waltz is tight and jazzy--it seems almost perfect.
I agree with your comment particularly regarding McCoy Tyner who was a perfect fit in Coltrane's Classic quartet but does get a little ponderous within his own groups that followed
Check out this song with Bill Evans and Monica Zetterlund. They did some amazing things together, and I think maybe they were the first one to do it (in swedish though). Eliane does almost anything worth listening too. A huge artist, I love her.
really a Great Pianist since the times of the STEPS AHEAD (maybe since before) and a good Singer too..in a piece that the Maestro BILL EVANS wanted to dedicate to His Niece
She's awesome, brilliant, soulful, expressive, she's all that! But the greatest living jazz pianist? McCoy Tyner is still alive and takes the laurels whenever he sits at a piano.
Such lovliness! I dont think she plays like B. Evans that much. She plays like Eliane, and maybe some Ramsey Lewis with those blues licks in there. So great!
my god, so trance o matic pure love, god my better self, to get there and then to stay there likes it your own sand box, well young lady... I guess it is and thank you for letting me in,
People, are you aware that Ms Elias calls herself a disciple of Bill Evans? The main way she deviates from Evans is that he did not sing. But to my knowledge, she does not compose. I agree with her claim to discipleship, and her piano playing and its rich harmonic vocabulary leaves me stunned.
Ms. Elias has many original compositions, dating from the '80s. I'm not referring specifically to her Bill Evans CD. Look carefully at her discography and you will learn a lot more about her original compositions. She is quite prolific.
Here is an incomplete list of Ms. Elias' original compositions. There are too many for me to list all of them here: Aparaceu, Perere, That's All It Was, A Volta, Horizonte, Paulistana, So In Love, What About The Heart? (Bate, Bate), Where Did You Go?, Luar, Time Alone, Movin' Me On, Snow, Wild Flower, The Time Is Now, Caipora, Chorango, Jungle Journey, Missing You, Segredos, B is for Butterfly, Another Day, O Guarani, An Up Dawn, So Far So Close, Amanda, Cross Currents, October, September, Made in Midnight, Crystal and Lace, Kissed By Nature. And the list goes on and on... Not all of these may be available on videos, but I suggest you listen to the audio recordings, if you're interested.
In her own sweet world Populated by dolls and clowns And a prince and a big purple bear Lives my favorite girl. Unaware of the worried frowns That we weary grown-ups all wear. In the sun she dances To silent music-songs That are spun of gold Somewhere in her own little head Then one day all too soon She'll grow up & she'll leave her doll And her prince & her silly old bear. When she goes they will cry As they whisper good-bye They will miss her I know But then so will I. Earrings made of shoestrings Barbie dolls with blue jeans Makin' cross eyes Shakes me when I'm sleepin' Did you ever see A kitten with an apron on Stop 'n start his stereo When she knows her brothers down the hall runnin' 'round and skippin' 'round Because she's so, She's so inspired Then she's tired Please put me jammies on Daddy look at the rain Can I go and play in the rain In the sun she dances To silent music-songs That are spun of gold Somewhere in her own little head Then one day all too soon She'll grow up & she'll leave her doll And her prince & her silly old bear When she goes they will cry As they whisper good-bye They will miss her I know But then so will I.

She doesn't even look at the keyboard.. damn! I've been living of music for 10 years now.. but everytime i listen to these people, meh.. i feel ashamed of myself ahah. i will never get there, not in this life. Neither in the next one. :)
I love everything she does. What a powerful artist! She never stops swinging.
Sensational …. Coolest I’ve watched for ages … what a fitting tribute to the great BE. 🎉

Talent with jazz validity, AND utmost beauty and grace,,,,,,,a refreshing combo, a very rare and TRUELY ,,,sensual experience.
Can you say "unbelievable?" Bill would have been very proud to hear this treatment of his very pretty and quite haunting song. What a trio! :))

soclarc h
Look up Diana Krall
And her waltz goes into 4.
I agree with your comment particularly regarding McCoy Tyner who was a perfect fit in Coltrane's Classic quartet but does get a little ponderous within his own groups that followed
i FEEL MORE 6/8
Damn girl, you connect! I got bumps on my skin. Thanks for your music
I love this rendition. Thanks.
shivers down the spine when the chorus starts at 02:11 !!
Wonderful music and even more wonderful woman genius ...
Wow, her rendition of the song is incredibly fascinating! :D
Thanks Eliane. So the greatest Bill is still alive....forever
Great stuff! Eliane is awsome. Somewhere Bill Evans is smiling widely!
Bella interpretazione vocale e grande esecuzione strumentale. Stupenda !
Torno a MIlano, con Sellani, Pupo de Luca e al basso... anche lui fantastico... Grazie !!!!
Wow!. She's honest and has soul. So nice. :-)
fully agree with you, this guy hasn't the faintest idea about the beauty of her voice and piano skills.
I adore her more than I can even express1
Count me in that number too...
Man, this is SO good.

Marc Johnson, my favorite bass player and he has some very good taste!
So beautiful...
Monica's Vals ! The Swedish lyrics and the sound of the words just fits this tune so way better
yet, what an incredible pianist... chapeau!
seeing her tomorrow night in NYC. cannot wait...
really a Great Pianist since the times of the STEPS AHEAD (maybe since before) and a good Singer too..in a piece that the Maestro BILL EVANS wanted to dedicate to His Niece

Still surprise me how amazing she’s 😊
Que talento!!!
beautiful rendition
She's awesome, brilliant, soulful, expressive, she's all that! But the greatest living jazz pianist? McCoy Tyner is still alive and takes the laurels whenever he sits at a piano.
Barefoot brilliance!
The best Lady jazz pianist I have heard.
Check out Dorothy Donegan also.
Gene Lees wrote these lyrics. There's also a set of unrelated Swedish lyrics by Bo somebody-or-other sung by Monica Zetterlund.
this performance just flat out swings...
As spot-on as it gets.
Absolutely unattainable!
Ela tem swing!!
Domo arigatou!
Maga Lee Nadeshiko
Une très belle version chantée

Best fermale piano player ever !
Damn good!
Wow! Eu gosto muito
Eliane Elias DOES COMPOSE!
Maravillosa
Class .
Such lovliness! I dont think she plays like B. Evans that much. She plays like Eliane, and maybe some Ramsey Lewis with those blues licks in there. So great!
Yes, Ramsey and also Lyle Mays...
Interesting choice, playing Waltz for Debby in 4/4
CasualSum1 is it? Bill Evans played it in 4/4 very frequently...
Same as someday my prince will come which originally is a 3/4 tune.
+Pav L. the head is played in 3/4 the solo part in 4/4 bill played it the same way
Stefan Watson that's what I meant. Nice tune to play!
Taking it into 4 on the solos is the preferred choice.
Thanks for pointing that out.
my god, so trance o matic pure love, god my better self, to get there and then to stay there likes it your own sand box, well young lady... I guess it is and thank you for letting me in,
Formidable!
génial.
всегда клёво
She gets some great players to join her. I see she worked with Jack Dejohnette. It gets no better than that. Marc Johnson on bass, no slouch either.
wow !!!!!!!!

She does indeed, compose. In fact, she has many original compositions. Where should I start?

Please put together a series of links to videos where she plays her own compositions.

Your point is very well taken and I was completely mistaken about her lack of compositions.
This is good, have you heard Johnny Hartman's version?

In her own sweet world
Populated by dolls and clowns
And a prince and a big purple bear
Lives my favorite girl.
Unaware of the worried frowns
That we weary grown-ups all wear.
In the sun she dances
To silent music-songs
That are spun of gold
Somewhere in her own little head
Then one day all too soon
She'll grow up & she'll leave her doll
And her prince & her silly old bear.
When she goes they will cry
As they whisper good-bye
They will miss her I know
But then so will I.
Earrings made of shoestrings
Barbie dolls with blue jeans
Makin' cross eyes
Shakes me when I'm sleepin'
Did you ever see
A kitten with an apron on
Stop 'n start his stereo
When she knows her brothers down the hall runnin' 'round and skippin' 'round
Because she's so,
She's so inspired
Then she's tired
Please put me jammies on
Daddy look at the rain
Can I go and play in the rain
In the sun she dances
To silent music-songs
That are spun of gold
Somewhere in her own little head
Then one day all too soon
She'll grow up & she'll leave her doll
And her prince & her silly old bear
When she goes they will cry
As they whisper good-bye
They will miss her I know
But then so will I.
Marc Johnson is one lucky man ..

I'm curious about that middle verse - how does it fit the music? Who wrote it? Is it recorded anywhere?
She doesn't even look at the keyboard.. damn! I've been living of music for 10 years now.. but everytime i listen to these people, meh.. i feel ashamed of myself ahah. i will never get there, not in this life. Neither in the next one. :)
Eliane plays a melody better than anyone.
