The major reason thats stopping me to go back is the toxic work culture in India where seniors look down upon juniors and teachers look down upon students. There is no mutual appreciation. The money, pollution, weather, are secondary compared to this. Having said that, I have full empathy for Indian students who work outside and have gone through the struggle. You know that in US you will be recognized more and appreciated more, but then the visa regulations are awful and your parents are back home. The life of uncertainty - I feel we are neither of this country nor that country.

We came back to India after 10 years in UK and never regretted it. That is because we were financially sound. Without finances it would have been a nightmare. As it is we love traveling in India, love how convenient everything is, love the weather, love having family and friends around. It all depends on what road God has prepared for you.

infra is not a major problem anymore imo, it's the unorganized and undisciplined public. They ruin anything that's built and have 0 sense of basic responsibilities towards public properties. If Indians magically become organized and disciplined, that'll solve most problems on the roads relating to infra. Stricter and better implementation of laws is required which will again require stopping corruption on micro level

There are essentially 3 reasons why people move back : 1) things not working out in a developed nation ( visa , job etc) 2) cheaper labour 3) compulsions - friends and family . A very small minority will move back because of the love for India - what’s exciting about bad air , blaring horns , seeing kids begging on the street . Having said that US is probably the most developed developing nation , with crime and craziness .

I work in Europe. My work life balance, safety being a woman and travel opportunities really make a difference. I do not think I will move back. I like going back home and spending time with family. And definitely it can be lonely sometimes. And in many fields, job and research opportunities are really good and can’t be compared back home. Glass ceiling for women in finance is real. Not to say women can’t succeed but definitely there’s more prejudice against working women. Commuting in Indian cities is a nightmare. Having access to nature is also a big plus.
These days women are given priority in all fields because of diversity and men with merit are discriminated against.. I think you have to update your knowledge and look at the bias you hold

Cousins are all over the place for education, job hence staying in india too you mostly miss your state festivals if you live in a far away state for work or education. I lived in US for 10 years, and i had to come back to india in 2012 , I enjoyed my bachelor life and life after marriage was also good, I explored and enjoyed world cuisine , Indian food is mostly on spicy side, i understood that there is world out side spice which is flavours. but at some point in 2010 it felt boring when a neighbour left for another town. It felt like death in family, me and my wife felt lonely. After cmng to india, it was difficult to settle down as it was reverse cultural shock, Job env is mostly boss oriented, work is not properly appreciated. But once you gone passed that phase, i started liking staying here. Only thing i miss from US is the wide veriety of foods and portion.
Not many people talk about worst air pollution and water pollution and lack of groundwater in India, let alone worst unregulated pesticides usage in agriculture and poison poultry with unregulated antibiotic and hormone usage. I lived in Hyderabad for 12 years. Moved to the US 4 months ago. Yes, you do miss the family when you live in a joint family or have many family members or your cousins living in the same city as you are. If you do not have many, you barely meet them once or twice a year which you can still do living in the US. Yes, it is difficult to attend family gatherings and weddings but that comes at a cost of better lifestyle, more savings, better professional opportunities and cleaner air to breathe.

I have stayed in US for over a year and realised that although US is a beautiful country, it couldn't fill the void that I felt as my family and friends were so far away. The dollars cannot give the happiness that I felt with being surrounded with the people that matter to me. It's definitely a trade off.

The simplicity, the innocence that used to tug at my heart, is gone. U will rather find a simpler, more Community driven life in the US than in India. Interesting questions and quick responses. Enjoyed the interview. I came to this country newly married, 19 going on 20 and now yesterday I enjoyed my first grandkid graduating. The initial impressions and spending a lifetime here can give perspectives on the good , the bad, and the ugly in both countries. But most of us make decisions in youth without thinking too far ahead about the long term repercussions of the decision to stay and the costs you pay emotionally, personally and socially! Yet there are as many people I know who went back with determination to live in India but ultimately came back because they did not know how to navigate the bureaucracy, the red tape, the subtle demands to grease the palms, missing the clues, the waiting lines for getting admissions in good schools for years, unless you know someone etc. etc. The most precious thing here in America is personal freedom to exercise your free will, tolerance for failure and second chances, freedom to experience and grow through trials and errors without being condemned forever, and a space to be who you want to be , without overbearing protective or meddling elders. Some of NRIs also experience a hostile dismissive manner in which any idea or innovation that you propose is labeled as, “ Oh, you and your American ideas!” So it is a mixed bag.
In my opinion, it is better to go back to India after gaining some experience, and making decent money, say in about 6-10yrs. The # of ppl going to US for studies, its such a huge financial drain for India. Earlier students used to come for only MS which is 3 semesters but now ppl are going for bachelors+masters. The exchange rate has gone up so much. Further, India invests on the individual until 18 or 21 yrs, if (s)he stays back, all the productivity of that person is gained by US without spending a penny. Imagine the loss to India.Indians will always be treated as outsiders though it is not visible. Its not easy to crack the higher level/mgmnt level jobs. And the g*n culture, good numbers lost their lives to it without their fault. Recently one Indian girl was sh*t at Allen outlet mall sh**ting, its so sad. Maatru bhumi se Kuch bhi accha Nahin hai. Singapore, japan, china, Korea and so many other countries were much worse than India. With will and wish, they made their countries awesome. Similar revolution needs to come inside young Indians. Otherwise this drain cannot be stopped.
I agree with your thoughts xyz, luckily I was able to learn and experience so much within 2 years I decided to move back to India. At the end it's a personal choice, and no country is the best or the worst. Something to share: Recently I watched a blog where an American tourister visited Marina Beach in Chennai. He was interested in horse riding and there were two horse riders who offered to take him for a ride at a cost of Rs.400/-. The American tourister turned down this offer saying it's too expensive. Really??? Think about us Indians going on a vacation in Florida and to do the same activity we need to book online, pay by credit card, assemble at the beach on time without any delay, sign a waiver and pay at least $70 for a 5 mins horse ride. Makes one question at just lesser than 10% of the cost for the same activity in Florida, one can go horse riding in one of the world's longest coastlines. End of day is just a perception, to me India gets me what I need, so it's my choice although the USA changed my prescription about India. Thanks USA 🙏
What you are talking about is probably the India of 1960/70 or probably of 1980/90. In this age of internet, social media, India has changed drastically. I have lived in USA for close to 9 years. Except the pollution and traffic problems I see marginal differences in terms of lifestyle. Plus in India you get to be with family and friends. Also, due to work from home the problems have somewhat reduced as I need to travel less.Overall it feels much better to be here than I was in USA.
I agree with your points but man the life in US is very lonely. Especially for people like me who doesnt have anyone here. Its relatively easy for the people who have few close/distant relatives, but man for rest of us its very depressing. Even after all the money we have in our bank accounts , we don't have anyone to talk to. People are very COLD here in the US while In india you feel that WARMTH. !
Came across this video recently. I came to the US 35 years ago and have raised two wonderful kids who are grown up and away in colleges pursuing their dreams. Lost both my parents and now live with their memories. Feel like a stranger going back to India, a country I call home. Fortunately, my wife still has a family back there and I do have a cousin, so all is not lost..meanwhile we built a good circle of friends here in the US with whom we travel, go out to dine and hangout. I feel happy India is growing and providing opportunities which never existed when I graduated out of college (there were opportunities, but the competition was so tough that I don't think I had a chance). Last man said it. The more you stay there the more you feel that India was better. It's the inherent values and culture that we have in our own minds. The older you become the more you realise things in life. Life should be seen as a long term goal and not on short term goals of money and all. It's hard for young people to realise this. And it's a bitter truth. Yeah some truths are bitter but it's better to accept that :)
If you have a Indian community there and you take your parents there too then it is a heaven life and point in going back to India. The natural beauty is heavenly,law and order is great, no bad politics, good social mannerism among people etc are 200 years ahead of India.
Thats the issue for me, you have to "TAKE" your parents to parks, "TAKE" your parents to gatherings , "TAKE" your parents to restaurants. Its like trying too hard for basic things which my parents used to do independently in India. But here it's like they are completely dependent on us for everything. Which is not a good lifestyle for our parents. They feel lonely during weekdays. I dont know how you handle those things, share some tips.

Indian IT is screwed up..everyone is not MAANG capable...apart from that it's such a huge crowd and competition with not that fancy pay and work life balance. Working till 9 PM is a common norm.
Craze has been constantly declining, There was a report in which fewer than 100 IITians out of some 12k went abroad as they are mostly getting opportunity here. The mediocre or average crowd in India however is moving abroad as they don't get good employment here

Not everyone thinks the same. I lived in europe and returned back to India after few years. I personally felt that life is too short and it should be spent qualitatively with people you love. Then the endless variety of food and cultural festivals is what drawn back to my homeland. As far as money goes, you can make money in any part of the world if you are skilled. So one can create opportunities for themselves if they think opportunities does not exist.

I think best brains have stopped going to US nowadays as most tech companies are shifting development centers to India. Only those who want to get dowry, show off go n settle abroad. I have come across many contractual Indians employees who are so so dumb technically. God knows how they travlled to the US.

Hi Ritu!!Though one has one’s own preference & reasons for staying in the US,I personally feel my own country is the best.The very feeling of being the native of my country is more important than anything else.I keep visiting my son who is a software engineer in the Bay Area & has no intention of moving back to India in near future.
I have spent 4 (total 6 years in the US) years of my life in that Newport river front. I used to stay in the 1 River Ct. Building overseeing the Hudson river. Now I am happily settled back in India and never had a feeling to go back there.

Important point to mention: US debt ceiling has been increased year on year which is really bad for economy and recession is just around the corner. Please ensure that you don't deposit all your money is US banks and instead send them to India. Housing loan crisis could crop up as well.
I just travelled through US for a month in Sept 23, last month. My intention to to see the difference. If one thing I would like to say better in US is cleanliness and of cities. But I found people are lonely, scared of future , want to work till 65!!! Most have dollar 2 million houses ( Indians in Bay) and taking brunt of it.
The ONLY and ONLY reason for Indians to stay in USA is DOLLARS😂😂😂 Take that Dollars off and ask everyone to stay back without dollars and see the effect 😂😂😂 And ofcourse we Indians know how to find loopholes in Visa system and we do that. Love your videos Ritu, however, the questions you're asking are really outdated. The newer generation immigrants don't really care about missing birthdays and marriages (given the fact that everyone is so accessible through the internet). You should try to dig into why these NRIs chose to migrate and what they found missing in the Indian job market that they had to leave behind everything. Loneliness and all is something every migrant accepts to live with. Perhaps you're looking for some answers to your own questions here.
Very good point raised. I think most of these 'NRI interviews' miss out on the this very aspect of the need to leave everything back home for an unknown struggle.
I don't think what you told is right bcoz in indian market there is a wave of startups so it is difficult for many students to do so they prefer to do job in any other non indian company so that they can earn a good money
We came back after a year or so. We thought we would have made good money there. But as years went by, i don't regret coming back as i was able to raise my children in Indian way . They were atleast listening. The health challenges for my child, i underwent..i think being in India i was able to handle efficiently. Sometimes when chances appear, take it as divine decision and move along. You are wherever you are. There is no use living in regret

One thing I realized living abroad is that living in a different country and in a different city in India are very similar. When I worked in Chennai, I could get leave to go home maybe once or twice a year. Living abroad, it’s the same - maybe once a year. If one has the luxury to live and work in the city their friends and family are at, that’s the best!
One thing to note is .. going to US/ other countries immediately ups the social status. There is an incredible proudness when one communicates their kith/ kin are abroad. It’s not just the money , lifestyle, openness, travel …but increased self respect when one goes abroad.

That mindset is changing of late. People feel bad for us on the point who will be with us as you get older. Have travelled to many places and seen some Indian houses abroad. There is nothing to gloat or proud. There are lots of challenges one has to face and the expenses abroad..My God. It's better to live happily where you are destined to. Many Indians turn very self centred around their immediate family and cannot appreciate or get along during their small trips back to their homeland. Recently, if you have decent money ( decide that number yourself) , India is getting to be the better option. Food , festivals , sports, outing, schools and career opportunities, shopping, advanced apartments, low property taxes , maid service and lot more other services have lots to offer. However the USA is far ahead when it's about cleanliness , law and order , emergency services , disciplined society, driving, rules , no corruption. But the older you are , no doubt India is better due to the growing and reasonably cheap service industry, as mentioned earlier.

You 100% reflected my thoughts,. I like to explain the "Feeling of being a foreigner" part: No matter what you do, you will never be one of them. You hardly ever make life long friends with whites. Everything about them is very different. Starting from their priorities in life to their food and culture. Its very hard to connect to someone because their interests are different than yours. They be nerdy about things like sea animals, coffee flavors, anime and ice hokey while all you are interested in movies, current affairs, food festivals and culture. ! I have never laughed on any of my white colleagues' jokes because their humor is also very different. I dont know how to explain this but it feels that something about us is not fitting here. But, There are many Indians who are completely okay for not fitting and they enjoy private life.
I know a lot of people who have gone back and happier even though they were living a successful life abroad studied from IIT or London school of economics to any top notch school.. doesn’t matter.. home is where happiness lies
This is very skewed opinion from H1b, students they have restrictions to travel due to visa, financial constraints, ask opinions of Indians origin folks who can travel freely on GC/ citizenship.offcourse the opinion about staying away from family will be the same, no one can replace our family. But when you are intergrate in society, schooling, activities jobs and friends here for years , this too feels like home and feels great to visit India but cannot settle to that system again. Most annoying is we still follow caste/ quota in education, jobs, atleast here it's merit based.
Thats a good point but I would say first generation immigrants still face issue in assimilating in the new country. Maybe their kids will feel at home but they will never feel it that way cause this country is very COLD to the outsiders.

Shocking to see so many NRIs calling india dirty, filthy, and alot more. Well, firstly, India is a "developing" country. And yes, we have a 100 issues to handle, and it would be wrong to call it better than america or america better than india. Both the places have their long list of pros and cons. I wish I was there to be one of the people you interviewed. I have had some bitter-sweet experiences over the past 4 years. I would like to start with the good ones. I got a lot of friends, the courage to speak to absolutely anyone, see many pet animals, the freedom of wearing clothes I want, nature, fresh air, and quality education in terms of infrastructure and technology. However, the bitter experiences involved acquaintances who would occasionally fight, heartbreaks, money-minded friends, missing friends when they moved to different cities, the inconvenience of public transport in Texas, fresh and organic groceries being expensive, and of course family. I am also scared of gun violence and subtle racism. I also lost a few friends to health issues which were very heart breaking. I wish I could have my parents around and enjoy the beautiful culture, nature, and technological advancement here.

The major reason thats stopping me to go back is the toxic work culture in India where seniors look down upon juniors and teachers look down upon students. There is no mutual appreciation. The money, pollution, weather, are secondary compared to this. Having said that, I have full empathy for Indian students who work outside and have gone through the struggle. You know that in US you will be recognized more and appreciated more, but then the visa regulations are awful and your parents are back home. The life of uncertainty - I feel we are neither of this country nor that country.
Frankly my current high paying job in the US is 10x more toxic than my humble paying job in Bengaluru.

We came back to India after 10 years in UK and never regretted it. That is because we were financially sound. Without finances it would have been a nightmare. As it is we love traveling in India, love how convenient everything is, love the weather, love having family and friends around. It all depends on what road God has prepared for you.

Cons of India: Lack of basic civic sense, ZERO public etiquette and discipline, people are never considerate towards others or society, infrastructure not adequate, unnecessary competition for basic things, toxic workplaces, power can get into people's head turn them into @$$#0l3s very easily, corruption in both public and private sectors, cheap quality in everything, unequal opportunities, open discrimination by the system based on caste, religion or people you know, slowest judiciary, people keep poking their nose in others business (which they are still continuing after migrating here)
Cons of west: Cost of living is sky high as you pay an arm and leg for basic necessities, housing is a disaster, some things are unnecessarily high and premium quality, the system is designed to squeeze every last dollar you saved, People can get suddenly and unreasonably radical and out of hand, rampant mental health issues, racial politics, deteriorating state of law and order, failing medical system, stagnant or collapsing infrastructure and development.
infra is not a major problem anymore imo, it's the unorganized and undisciplined public. They ruin anything that's built and have 0 sense of basic responsibilities towards public properties. If Indians magically become organized and disciplined, that'll solve most problems on the roads relating to infra. Stricter and better implementation of laws is required which will again require stopping corruption on micro level

There are essentially 3 reasons why people move back : 1) things not working out in a developed nation ( visa , job etc) 2) cheaper labour 3) compulsions - friends and family . A very small minority will move back because of the love for India - what’s exciting about bad air , blaring horns , seeing kids begging on the street . Having said that US is probably the most developed developing nation , with crime and craziness .

I work in Europe. My work life balance, safety being a woman and travel opportunities really make a difference. I do not think I will move back. I like going back home and spending time with family. And definitely it can be lonely sometimes. And in many fields, job and research opportunities are really good and can’t be compared back home. Glass ceiling for women in finance is real. Not to say women can’t succeed but definitely there’s more prejudice against working women. Commuting in Indian cities is a nightmare. Having access to nature is also a big plus.
These days women are given priority in all fields because of diversity and men with merit are discriminated against..
I think you have to update your knowledge and look at the bias you hold
I agree with your point on safety. I am also planning to move to Europe next year. Because safety reasons only. And esp as a woman who is not willing to marry, the societal pressure and judgements will kill me ... Which is going to start soon.. So for me it's better to leave India.

I work in Amazon, My friends all work in big companies like Google Microsoft etc, Let me tell you that none of us are happy. We all are more depressed than we were in India. I haven't seen a positive change in any of our lives. I came to the US because my family is lower middle income from generations. The only goal for me is to earn money and somehow elevate our family wealth. THATS IT! Neither we are happy not our parents. Thats the truth ! and it's the same case with most of the people I know.

In india too how many people get to stay in their hometown if they are from small towns (which is majority of India). Cousins are all over the place for education, job hence staying in india too you mostly miss your state festivals if you live in a far away state for work or education. Ritu is asking questions considering ideal scenario of the full extended family from a big city like Delhi and everyone still is in Delhi celebrating everything together like birthdays and marriages and festivals. This could a single digit of the population who could get such ideal scenario.

I lived in US for 10 years, and i had to come back to india in 2012 , I enjoyed my bachelor life and life after marriage was also good, I explored and enjoyed world cuisine , Indian food is mostly on spicy side, i understood that there is world out side spice which is flavours.
but at some point in 2010 it felt boring when a neighbour left for another town. It felt like death in family, me and my wife felt lonely. After cmng to india, it was difficult to settle down as it was reverse cultural shock, Job env is mostly boss oriented, work is not properly appreciated.
But once you gone passed that phase, i started liking staying here.
Only thing i miss from US is the wide veriety of foods and portion.
Not many people talk about worst air pollution and water pollution and lack of groundwater in India, let alone worst unregulated pesticides usage in agriculture and poison poultry with unregulated antibiotic and hormone usage. No one wants to talk about how much all these and unregulated rampant population explosion causing cancer rapid spread in all urban centers in India....
These questions should also be asked with people who lived here for longer time, raised their families, and seen the actual life. All of those who you interviewed are either visiting or living here only for short time.
I am one of those guys. Good = easier life. Bad = lost scciety, friends and large family members and some of the culture values.

I lived in Hyderabad for 12 years. Moved to the US 4 months ago. Yes, you do miss the family when you live in a joint family or have many family members or your cousins living in the same city as you are. If you do not have many, you barely meet them once or twice a year which you can still do living in the US. Yes, it is difficult to attend family gatherings and weddings but that comes at a cost of better lifestyle, more savings, better professional opportunities and cleaner air to breathe.

But living 10 years in France, you likely put in some effort to pick up basic French and spoke French in ishtyle. So in non-Har Har Mahadev lands, you have no shame in picking up Foreign languages. But there is a lot of shame in picking up INdian languages even when you live/work in Har Har Mahadev land.

Well said. Be where your heart is. I have stayed in US for over a year and realised that although US is a beautiful country, it couldn't fill the void that I felt as my family and friends were so far away. The dollars cannot give the happiness that I felt with being surrounded with the people that matter to me. It's definitely a trade off.
You are right india can never be like the US in fact it will be a hell of a lot better than Debt ridden US in the near future.
I believe Red-tapism , corruption , nepotism and lack of civic sense among the masses is the major concern people left India in last 3 decades.

Interesting questions and quick responses. Enjoyed the interview. I came to this country newly married, 19 going on 20 and now yesterday I enjoyed my first grandkid graduating. The initial impressions and spending a lifetime here can give perspectives on the good , the bad, and the ugly in both countries. But most of us make decisions in youth without thinking too far ahead about the long term repercussions of the decision to stay and the costs you pay emotionally, personally and socially! Yet there are as many people I know who went back with determination to live in India but ultimately came back because they did not know how to navigate the bureaucracy, the red tape, the subtle demands to grease the palms, missing the clues, the waiting lines for getting admissions in good schools for years, unless you know someone etc. etc. The most precious thing here in America is personal freedom to exercise your free will, tolerance for failure and second chances, freedom to experience and grow through trials and errors without being condemned forever, and a space to be who you want to be , without overbearing protective or meddling elders. Some of NRIs also experience a hostile dismissive manner in which any idea or innovation that you propose is labeled as, “ Oh, you and your American ideas!” So it is a mixed bag.
In my opinion, it is better to go back to India after gaining some experience, and making decent money, say in about 6-10yrs.
The # of ppl going to US for studies, its such a huge financial drain for India. Earlier students used to come for only MS which is 3 semesters but now ppl are going for bachelors+masters. The exchange rate has gone up so much. Further, India invests on the individual until 18 or 21 yrs, if (s)he stays back, all the productivity of that person is gained by US without spending a penny. Imagine the loss to India.Indians will always be treated as outsiders though it is not visible. Its not easy to crack the higher level/mgmnt level jobs. And the g*n culture, good numbers lost their lives to it without their fault. Recently one Indian girl was sh*t at Allen outlet mall sh**ting, its so sad. Maatru bhumi se Kuch bhi accha Nahin hai. Singapore, japan, china, Korea and so many other countries were much worse than India. With will and wish, they made their countries awesome. Similar revolution needs to come inside young Indians. Otherwise this drain cannot be stopped.
I agree with your thoughts xyz, luckily I was able to learn and experience so much within 2 years I decided to move back to India. At the end it's a personal choice, and no country is the best or the worst.

Recently I watched a blog where an American tourister visited Marina Beach in Chennai. He was interested in horse riding and there were two horse riders who offered to take him for a ride at a cost of Rs.400/-. The American tourister turned down this offer saying it's too expensive. Really???
Think about us Indians going on a vacation in Florida and to do the same activity we need to book online, pay by credit card, assemble at the beach on time without any delay, sign a waiver and pay at least $70 for a 5 mins horse ride. Makes one question at just lesser than 10% of the cost for the same activity in Florida, one can go horse riding in one of the world's longest coastlines.
End of day is just a perception, to me India gets me what I need, so it's my choice although the USA changed my prescription about India. Thanks USA 🙏

I have lived in USA for close to 9 years. Except the pollution and traffic problems I see marginal differences in terms of lifestyle. Plus in India you get to be with family and friends. Also, due to work from home the problems have somewhat reduced as I need to travel less.Overall it feels much better to be here than I was in USA.

I agree with your points but man the life in US is very lonely. Especially for people like me who doesnt have anyone here. Its relatively easy for the people who have few close/distant relatives, but man for rest of us its very depressing. Even after all the money we have in our bank accounts , we don't have anyone to talk to. People are very COLD here in the US while In india you feel that WARMTH. !

Came across this video recently. I came to the US 35 years ago and have raised two wonderful kids who are grown up and away in colleges pursuing their dreams. Lost both my parents and now live with their memories. Feel like a stranger going back to India, a country I call home. Fortunately, my wife still has a family back there and I do have a cousin, so all is not lost..meanwhile we built a good circle of friends here in the US with whom we travel, go out to dine and hangout. I feel happy India is growing and providing opportunities which never existed when I graduated out of college (there were opportunities, but the competition was so tough that I don't think I had a chance). Good luck to those coming to land of milk and honey :), may all your dreams come true!!

Last man said it. The more you stay there the more you feel that India was better. It's the inherent values and culture that we have in our own minds. The older you become the more you realise things in life. Life should be seen as a long term goal and not on short term goals of money and all. It's hard for young people to realise this. And it's a bitter truth. Yeah some truths are bitter but it's better to accept that :)
If you have a Indian community there and you take your parents there too then it is a heaven life and point in going back to India. The natural beauty is heavenly,law and order is great, no bad politics, good social mannerism among people etc are 200 years ahead of India.

Thats the issue for me, you have to "TAKE" your parents to parks, "TAKE" your parents to gatherings , "TAKE" your parents to restaurants. Its like trying too hard for basic things which my parents used to do independently in India. But here it's like they are completely dependent on us for everything. Which is not a good lifestyle for our parents. They feel lonely during weekdays. I dont know how you handle those things, share some tips.

The mediocre or average crowd in India however is moving abroad as they don't get good employment here

Not everyone thinks the same. I lived in europe and returned back to India after few years. I personally felt that life is too short and it should be spent qualitatively with people you love. Then the endless variety of food and cultural festivals is what drawn back to my homeland.
As far as money goes, you can make money in any part of the world if you are skilled. So one can create opportunities for themselves if they think opportunities does not exist.

The rise in private sectors in India has given lot of opportunity to youngsters. I and my cousin are not passed from IIT still we all had good jobs and we had no connection with anyone in any office. Yes government sector is corrupt but private sector give you opportunity as per your Merit and Skills. On top of that the tax is very less and cost of living very low compare to any developed nation

I think best brains have stopped going to US nowadays as most tech companies are shifting development centers to India. Only those who want to get dowry, show off go n settle abroad. Hi Ritu!!Though one has one’s own preference & reasons for staying in the US,I personally feel my own country is the best.The very feeling of being the native of my country is more important than anything else.I keep visiting my son who is a software engineer in the Bay Area & has no intention of moving back to India in near future.
I have spent 4 (total 6 years in the US) years of my life in that Newport river front. I used to stay in the 1 River Ct. Building overseeing the Hudson river. Now I am happily settled back in India and never had a feeling to go back there.

Important point to mention: US debt ceiling has been increased year on year which is really bad for economy and recession is just around the corner.
Please ensure that you don't deposit all your money is US banks and instead send them to India.

I just travelled through US for a month in Sept 23, last month. My intention to to see the difference. If one thing I would like to say better in US is cleanliness and of cities. But I found people are lonely, scared of future , want to work till 65!!! Most have dollar 2 million houses ( Indians in Bay) and taking brunt of it.
The ONLY and ONLY reason for Indians to stay in USA is DOLLARS😂😂😂
Take that Dollars off and ask everyone to stay back without dollars and see the effect 😂😂😂

The newer generation immigrants don't really care about missing birthdays and marriages (given the fact that everyone is so accessible through the internet). You should try to dig into why these NRIs chose to migrate and what they found missing in the Indian job market that they had to leave behind everything. Loneliness and all is something every migrant accepts to live with. Perhaps you're looking for some answers to your own questions here.

We came back after a year or so. We thought we would have made good money there. But as years went by, i don't regret coming back as i was able to raise my children in Indian way . They were atleast listening. The health challenges for my child, i underwent..i think being in India i was able to handle efficiently. Sometimes when chances appear, take it as divine decision and move along. You are wherever you are. There is no use living in regret

One thing I realized living abroad is that living in a different country and in a different city in India are very similar. When I worked in Chennai, I could get leave to go home maybe once or twice a year. Living abroad, it’s the same - maybe once a year. If one has the luxury to live and work in the city their friends and family are at, that’s the best!

One thing to note is .. going to US/ other countries immediately ups the social status. There is an incredible proudness when one communicates their kith/ kin are abroad. It’s not just the money , lifestyle, openness, travel …but increased self respect when one goes abroad.

That mindset is changing of late. People feel bad for us on the point who will be with us as you get older. Have travelled to many places and seen some Indian houses abroad. There is nothing to gloat or proud. There are lots of challenges one has to face and the expenses abroad..My God. It's better to live happily where you are destined to. Many Indians turn very self centred around their immediate family and cannot appreciate or get along during their small trips back to their homeland. Their mentality changes with breathing the air and drinking the water around..it changes them unconsciously in a subtler aspect which the individual can't have control most of the time unless one is very conscious and self aware

For H1B visa. You have to leave for a year to come back to get a 3 year extension.
He must be on L1B visa . The validity of that visa expires in 5 year and then you have to move to non-us state for 1 year and then so can come back
They never wanted to live in the UK, it was just because of visa extension that they went there.

Recently, if you have decent money ( decide that number yourself) , India is getting to be the better option. Food , festivals , sports, outing, schools and career opportunities, shopping, advanced apartments, low property taxes , maid service and lot more other services have lots to offer. However the USA is far ahead when it's about cleanliness , law and order , emergency services , disciplined society, driving, rules , no corruption.
But the older you are , no doubt India is better due to the growing and reasonably cheap service industry, as mentioned earlier.

I tried few times in UK and Nordic countries. After every 6 months I would become home sick and desperate to come back to India. It was tough to explain management every times so happily settled in Kokata with famly-parents. Good part is salary in IT industry in India now a days comparable to European countries for senior professionals

For me its 32hrs flight. I'm in Portland, OR PNW and I'm from Varanasi. Miss karte hai bohot. There in not a guilt but I miss 3F family, food and festivals. USA is less Polluted but it's highly expensive. Taxes and Rent sucks here but USA is definitely magnetic. It's beautiful here in Spring and fall. But i wont settle down here. Glad u are back in USA. You 100% reflected my thoughts,. I like to explain the "Feeling of being a foreigner" part: No matter what you do, you will never be one of them. You hardly ever make life long friends with whites. Everything about them is very different. Starting from their priorities in life to their food and culture. Its very hard to connect to someone because their interests are different than yours. They be nerdy about things like sea animals, coffee flavors, anime and ice hokey while all you are interested in movies, current affairs, food festivals and culture. ! I have never laughed on any of my white colleagues' jokes because their humor is also very different. I dont know how to explain this but it feels that something about us is not fitting here. But, There are many Indians who are completely okay for not fitting and they enjoy private life.

This is very skewed opinion from H1b, students they have restrictions to travel due to visa, financial constraints, ask opinions of Indians origin folks who can travel freely on GC/ citizenship.offcourse the opinion about staying away from family will be the same, no one can replace our family. But when you are intergrate in society, schooling, activities jobs and friends here for years , this too feels like home and feels great to visit India but cannot settle to that system again. Most annoying is we still follow caste/ quota in education, jobs, atleast here it's merit based.
Thats a good point but I would say first generation immigrants still face issue in assimilating in the new country. Maybe their kids will feel at home but they will never feel it that way cause this country is very COLD to the outsiders.

Shocking to see so many NRIs calling india dirty, filthy, and alot more. Well, firstly, India is a "developing" country. And yes, we have a 100 issues to handle, and it would be wrong to call it better than america or america better than india. Both the places have their long list of pros and cons. I feel people who strongly express dislike towards a country and at core infact wanting to be there but loudly putting it out there that xyz is better, theyre simply trying to reassure themselves. My two cents to eveyone is, DONT bash any country- india/usa/ or anywhere BECAUSE its someone's home. Respect it. High time we stop being petty and stop with the one upmanship.❤

I wish I was there to be one of the people you interviewed. I have had some bitter-sweet experiences over the past 4 years. I would like to start with the good ones. I got a lot of friends, the courage to speak to absolutely anyone, see many pet animals, the freedom of wearing clothes I want, nature, fresh air, and quality education in terms of infrastructure and technology. However, the bitter experiences involved acquaintances who would occasionally fight, heartbreaks, money-minded friends, missing friends when they moved to different cities, the inconvenience of public transport in Texas, fresh and organic groceries being expensive, and of course family. I am also scared of gun violence and subtle racism. I also lost a few friends to health issues which were very heart breaking. I wish I could have my parents around and enjoy the beautiful culture, nature, and technological advancement here.
So I am not agreeing with your point that if your parents are not allowing you to wear clothes then why are you blaming whole country like it is not same now people are wearing what they want and especially girls women are empowered here
And yes I am talking about villages and small towns too and if some girls are wearing dresses and traditional indian dress it is there choice

In the most part of USA you anyway have to wear a long Jacket or a coat for half of the year. But I get it, Some Indian parents are two restrictive, I am glad mine were just so cool even in India.
I do have an opportunity to move to CA, but I'm not sure about it. I'm watching loads of videos to make up my mind. If you have siblings to take care of your parents back in India, you can save & send money to them. You have lots of struggle on every front in India.
Move to Atlanta to Virginia corridor, cheapest real-estate, with very less to no income tax and 40% cheaper than CA.

Mate, if you emigrate to U.S remember you will face different set of challenges - loneliness, time to adapt to American culture. If you have blood relatives, it makes it easy otherwise it takes a lot of mental strength to be normal.

India need to improve in aforementioned areas. But here reside our family, foods, and places of worship, temples (12 jyotirling and Shaktipeeth, Char Dham)and holy rivers, all of these provide peace and solace. May lord of the Universe bless you

Law and order? No man. My experience in the US has not been good. I have been mugged, attacked with a taser gun and got my bike stolen all within 1.5 years of me being here. In no case police was helpful, they might be helpful only after I die ! Lol
I am 40yrs old Dr from India and I used to regret that I didn't go to USA or I don't have a passport but after watching this video I am feeling relieved.I have my family my parents all living together gives a feeling of satisfaction.Also I am making almost 10k-12k permonth in usd and that gives me more satisfaction😂😂.
I came here because I could have a career and raise kiddos, not possible to balance both in India as a woman. Cost I pay is managing everything myself and too much work!!
